With the money involved it's inevitable that steemit services will be attacked. The site itself has been attacked before, but we had alternatives. The auto voting is cool, but I hope people keep doing it manually too

Manually is the best, from perspective of engagement and bonding. For curationtrails I do believe autovoting is good. I participate in some trails, but individually vote for the posts and comments I like :)
The threat of being attacked it real indeed cause of the chance to 'steal the money' and still a bit immaturity of the projects..
