RE: Steemit: Putting the Social Back into Social Media

in #steemit7 years ago

There are a few obstacles to Steemit adoptions. Firstly, people haven't heard of it, so it needs publicity. When they do we need to explain that it's not a scam.

The site could look better, but we have some alternatives that may be better for new users. There's just a danger of confusion over the 'brand'.

Recently some people have had issues signing up due to how the SP is allocated. That needs to be resolved permanently. Obscure error messages will put them off.

I think Steem and Steemit could change the world. We can help it do that.

How to get more people involved here on @Steemit - What do you do? @steevc

I'll talk to people about it and post about it elsewhere. I just have to avoid spamming them. I don't have a massive following anywhere, so my influence is fairly limited. I have brought in a few people so far. It may just take a few big names to make Steemit go viral. One issue is that people have got comfortable with FB etc being all they need. It's amazing how quickly that has happened.

Then I see something like Mastodon grow from nothing to half a million in a couple of weeks. There is a hunger for alternatives.

I tried this too but with not much success

It can be hard. We can show that it really pays and that you can take the money out. You would think that creative people would jump on board. There's also the fact that there are no ads to distract people and it's censorship resistant. It deserves to succeed.

There will always be obstacles because software is never done, it's just shipped.

I know all about that, but it can reach a stage where it's 99% done until you want more features. Obviously Steemit works as it is, but it's lacking whatever it needs to reach the next level. I've seen sites that keep the beta tag for years.
