I like stats, so I tend to monitor various aspects of services I use. I'm sad enough to keep a spreadsheet that I update each week with things like follower numbers. I know I can get that directly from the Steem blockchain, but it's convenient for me. Maybe I can automate it some day.

One of the things I check is how Steemit ranks on Hypestat. This uses Alexa, and possibly other sources to show trends in visitor numbers. I know it can't show the whole picture as it does not include apps, but that's probably a minor aspect for Steemit. For the first time I saw a dip in visitors. Figures about site value don't apply as that assumes the site will use advertising.

Alexa has been showing the rank improvement slowing, and it has dropped by a few hundred places over the last week. I'm not convinced that this is a problem. It may just be some people who came here for a quick buck giving up.

But I'm not giving up by any means!

Steemit is a service that is still in beta and only a few months old. I've seen sites have meteoric growth in the first six months and then fail after a couple of years. What matters is that a core of people are using Steemit and exploring new uses for it. This is not just a social site where just clicking will make you money. This is a new economy. It's not perfect, but it has massive potential. Being successful here requires patience. Very few will get rich from just a few posts.

My current strategy is to power up any Steem I get. I am keeping some Steem Dollars available as I want to be able to buy and sell stuff. I should be sending some fairly soon to someone who is mailing me something that I will write about later. I'm not planning on cashing out any time soon. I've had a few successful posts over the last month that have give me a 10x increase in Steem Power. That means I now have the voting slider and I do actually see post value change sometimes when I vote. I want to be able to reward people for good content. In some cases I may transfer some Steem to them to offer encouragement.
