Hey Steemians!
Last night i was reading some articles here on Steemit when i stumbled upon this particular trail of comments :
The list goes on and on... with this same user stating that the platform is "unfair" and that he does not get why some people make more money on their posts than other people do . And why is someone's upvote worth more than others, etc, etc.
I am brand new to Steemit and sure, there are a lot of things i still don't get about how everything here works. However , I do understand why would someone make more money than me or why a whale's upvote is worth a lot more than mine (mine right now is worth 0 SD by the way lol)
I am not here to "school " anybody but maybe if you are as confused as this user is (i was at some point too, i guess) maybe reading my opinion about the subject will help you understand a little bit more about how this works (at the very least you will avoid sounding as shitty as this person sounds, you will not embarrase yourself like this person is doing out of ignorance. no offence)
It didn’t get “unfair” as he puts it.It is rather simple really, If you make good posts people will eventually upvote you. It doesn't matter if you are new with 0 followers at the moment . People will notice you if you make good content. It doesn't really have to be "good " even, for Gods sake! it just has to be unique. and it has to mean something (maybe not to the world, but if it means something to you, then it will mean something in general and someone will relate) .
Someone who is just starting in the platform shouldn’t really expect to get as many upvotes or as much SD (money) as someone who has been in the platform for a year now. It is the same way that real life
works. The older you are the more skills you acquire ... the more you practice something the better you become at it. Why shouldn’t there be whales or dolphins? It is like asking that people shouldn’t be older than you or more experienced, because to you it is "unfair".
In real life people who work the most get better results and succeed. . The same happens with Steemit. There’s people here that have been writing content for a very long time. They have been patient and they have worked their butts off.. so they indeed deserve more. ( more followers, more upvotes, more SD, etc) If you work hard and you are passioned about what you are doing you will eventually succeed. Do you really think that when the big whales of Steemit started they where make as much money as they are now? they where just like you and me! .
I an no expert here. I only got started las October 24th, and yeah...I already understood that Steemit.com isn’t some “easy money making “ machine. You have to work for it. ;)
So in conclusion, you shouldn't really worry about what other are doing and how successful they are. Worry about what you are doing and if you are doing is something that matters to you and that means something. Thinking just about the money is never a good idea, because then you are going to stop doing what you like and start thinking about what others like and will probably upvote. If you write about thing that others like but you don't , you are not going to enjoy what you are doing. Also, it is not going to be special. It will become generic. And if it becomes generic, then nobody is going to like it...and nobody will upvote it ( there is already too much trash on the internet, why do you want to add more to the pile of crap that already exists?)
Going back to some of the comments made by that user we see this :
Answering his question :It is true, maybe "this guy" has 66 upvotes but on 30 something people really read the article. He says it as if maybe "this guy" is cheating somehow (maybe with bots, etc) and getting more upvotes and therefore more money than he is really supposed to... but that is not true at al. *** Why is that you ask?*** because... some people that have been creating content for Steemit for while now (months or even years) have already created a "fan base" . So , all these people who follow their content, know the creator so well, and have been following for so long that they know and the trust their content is good (at least to their liking) and upvote sometimes without even actually reading the article. It really is just that simple. It is not bots or cheats.. it is their followers .
I went to check this "confused user's " profile to see what he was all about and maybe try to understand where he was coming from with all the questions and critiques . Ended up finding out that he wasn't really as confused he was ranting about Steemit and really just hating on it and the people who spend time on it . I run into some really offensive comments he posted on other people posts just say things like "fuck you" and just really trying to push people's buttons .
I saw people like @Luzcypher and @Meno trying to explain to him how everything works. Being friendly etc. But he didn't really want to get helped at all! . I went back to his profile again to check what he posts.. and to my surprise he posts literally about nothing!
Here's the very last post he created .. it literally just has a number written in it and that's it.How do you expect to get people to follow you and like your content if you don't write any content?
There's this other one before that one ( this is his "introduceyourself" post, by the way ):
Again.. it has nothing written in it..
Sure, Steemit is not as easy as using Facebook, but it also isn't rocket science either.
And just like in real life. You can't really expect to get great results if you are not really doing anything.
Steemit.com is NOT about getting as many followers as you can get . Upvote for Upvote systems do not work here. If people follow you but in the end of the day don't like what you post... they are not going to upvote you.. also going on people's blog telling them fake compliments won't do it either, just to get their attention and get them to go to your blog. You have to do what you like and grow organically.
My best advice is... be yourself , be authentic and show us your world and the way you see things... that way you are far more likely to get followers and even friends!
Work hard only because you love what you are doing. Don't expect anything other than they joy of realizing someone out there might read you and share their opinion with you. And the joy of having amazing conversations with people who who you would've never met if it wasn't for Steemit.

See you all next time! <3
hm. you made me think about how i asked if you upvoted my post . i guess i was thinking open mic was a competetive contest but really its just all about us growing the open mic event with upvotes all over so that we are all winners rather than competing with each other
Haha no.. don’t worry about that...( plus i upvted you way before you asked, on the original post of your entry)
I mean, off course we all want to be upvoted and get rich lol! But yeah... asking for upvotes is not the best aproach because people will see you as “desperate” and might not even upvote you.
In the Open Mic contest... we indeed are “competing against each other “ but in the end on the day.. it is not about who got more upvotes... the winner is actually picked by the judges... it down matter if you got 100 upvotes or 0 upvotes. You still might win.
Great post! You are right in everything you said. I don't think people should even worry about making tons of money here, just post about something you enjoy. There, profit. If you don't enjoy anything then you have other issues to worry about lol.
I don't see the system as being unfair, infact I think it's a huge oportunity even for those who don't deserve it. You can see people making a profit from posting random pictures from the web, memes etc, that are not their work. How is that fair? Myself, for example, I do write my own stuff (good or bad) but I post other peoples music. It is just about sharing, and I have been rewarded way behond what I deserve, I think. Steemit is great. How many people do some of the same stuff on Youtube and get nothing in return?
I completely agree with you! People are just looking for a "Money Making" machine, but there's not such thing.. nor in real life nor on the internet. unless you are like.. scamming people or something... and even that requires a little bit of effort lol!
totally true @soykatonline
thanks i am glad you agree!
