A series of questions I'd like to see answered clearly and concisely, without reference to long posts. I feel overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of my ignorance. The mountain of things I realize I need to read and catch up with is daunting.
can one vote for more than a "witness"? if yes, how does then the vote split?
is the voting continuous or running in periods (every x months or years like in real-world democracies)?
I think I understood the notions of "STEEM" and "STEEM Power" and even the "SBD" but not quite - notably not all the obscure stuff around "price feeds". Where do these price feeds come from, exchanges? And exactly how are they used ?
The SBD and SP (and the split between the two) rewards on posts and comments come from voting. But the fact that they are displayed with a "$" sign next to them (is it intended to mean US$ ?) does not help when on the rewards page I see the figures in SBD and SP. I don't care that my post made, say "$3.08", I would much rather see this as "SBD 1.4 + SP 0.014" or something similar.
I seem to remember "reputation" influences the bandwidth, can someone confirm that? But if yes, how? What's the relationship between reputation and MB of posts that can be posted per day?
I definitely still need more effort to understand "VESTS" - what is their purpose, how they are generated, etc.
(if only it was that simple ...)
I stop here but not before asking one last question: Who and why has translated the Steemit subtitle in French as "Présentations sur la monnaie" ? I speak both French and English and I cannot guess what that translation means nor refers to ...
A new question surfaced this week-end. There seems to be an open rift between @ned and @dan with @ned being very unhappy that EOS might come to compete with Steemit. Although people like them are called "whales" not elephants, I can't help but recall the African proverb: "When elephants are fighting, it is the grass that gets trampled". Anyone has any insight or wants to speculate about how this might impact steem going forward?
poti gasi inca cateva detalii in postul meu ultim https://busy.org/@ionutciobanu/presentation-steemit-as-an-investment-platform-and-prezentare-steemit-ca-platforma-de-investitie-ro

At the end of my posts there is a link to a mega-post containing informations about payment, witnesses, etc:
https://steemit.com/@dragosroua/the-7-fundamental-questions-about-steemit
All of your questions will be answered there.
There's also a free course on Skillshare, if you have half an hour and don't mind me storytelling it:

The problems with megaposts are several. I have read some of them but as some are old and things change I always wonder if the info I read in a post from 2 months ago (or older) is still actual
But that is the lesser problem. The much bigger is that in mega posts the information is arranged in a "backward fashion" . Being explained by someone who sees the big picture it is explained in a way that implicitly relies on understanding much more than the reader actually understands at the moment (s)he is reading. The way information is structured in megaposts make it hard to digest . That's why asking questions is so much more productive. Like the difference between learning from a book and learning with a teacher.
I agree. Also, I reckon you didn’t look at the post, since the information in it, and in the ones quoted, is organized basically as a Q. & A. Nevertheless, if you feel like asking, go ahead.
That would be wrong. I had read this post already. You might note that none of the 7 questions it answers is among those I'm asking. I'm not asking about mining steem, nor about begging for upvotes nor anout making money and how accurate the rewards indicated next to a post are. My question about witness is a wee bit more "advanced" than "what is a witness and why should I care" - I'm asking if one can vote for more than one - meanwhile I found out it is indeed possible but it's not clear in that case for how many you can vote and how the vote is split (if it is). Also I don't know if the voting is continuous. And I didn't have time to look into more detail what are the VESTS, what is their purpose. Possibly explained in a part of the whitepaper I didn't reach yet ...
