10,000 hours is overkill. Most people need a lot less, to be "good enough". Learning a new skill takes a lot less time. You don't need 10,000 hours to learn how to code.

...to be "good enough"...but to truly master an art, I believe the 10,000 hour principle does hold some significant weight.

I'm gunna have to agree with @darknet on this one too. "Good enough" is great, in some cases. But I'd really like to be superb at something, or some things, plural. Some things come more naturally to us, and maybe we could be an expert at it without the 10,000 hours. But even then, is it the best we can be? There is something to be said for that.
