Thank you STEEMIT !! (how I took SBD500 off Steemit, and made $20,000)

in #steemit7 years ago

Yes... 20 freaking grands! :-)

Here's the story:
After something like 9 months without a post, I decided to write again. I was away mostly because of work and lack of time, but also because I wanted to observe more than participate. See how it grows. Take time.
(FTR, I joined steemit in July 2016, wrote almost 600 posts, and some of them went good enough to allow me to accumulate roughly SBD500... which I did not know what to do at the time...)

But, as you probably already know, Steemit is more than just a blogging site with a fancy technology powering its wheels. It's a community, a great community, and its memebers opened my eyes on the world of Alt-coins.

Reading the articles on Steemit had me convinced me that I should re-invest my SBDs in Altcoins.

So, after I got my very first earnings, I decided to move-on, and to invest in these Alt-coins: I opened a Bittrex account, and a Kraken one (why not 2?) , and started to read more about these strangely named Ether, STEEM, SYS, and all the other coins.

I converted my SBD in BTC on bittrex, learning about the addresses, and learning about the difference between SBD and STEEM wallets the hard way (1 bad transfer did cost me a bit...)

At first, I bought a bit of everything, mostly ETH, ETC, some MTR and KR (zero value today)... and some STRAT, just because of the name... which in the end was a lucky move.
I started to read more, built my expertise, and I did learn A LOT more. It helped me invest better and ultimately made me do some good moves, maybe mostly by luck... but still good moves.

I started to see my initial investment, freshly transformed in Alt-coins, grow day by day...

A few months ago, I had something like the equivalent of $4,000 in various cryptocurrencies, and, with the help of a couple good investments and the very recent surge of the BTC, my portfolio weights today about $23,000.

(see HOLDINGS, acquisition cost is on the 30th of May when I started using this system to track my gains)

A few days ago, I took $4,000 out and bought this:

Steemit is probably the only reason I could have paid myself this beauty.

Conclusion...
First of all, I want to come back and to THANK STEEMIT, and especially the community for, sort of, changing my life and making me discover this brave new world of crypto-currencies.
Now it is my turn to return the favor:

The best advice I can give new members, is to learn about cryptos. Jump in and give it a try.

Steemit is a great way to get into this world, without having to link a bank account to your exchange market.
(note: you may need to if you want to get some real cash out!)

And now is the time to strat investing. (actually, last month was... but there is more potential). SO jump in, and learn about STEEM, ETH, ETC, SYS, DGB and all these new technologies. The journey is worth every gain.

If you win money, or if you lose your bet, at least you would had learnt something, and would have been part of this new revolution.

THANK YOU STEEMIT, and THANK YOU ALL HERE.

(Damn...if feels good to be back!)

Sort:

Hell yeah man! Goes to show you diversification is still a smart move in any investment vehicle. Congrats on the investments!

I'm finally starting to do the same, been just BTC and steem so far. Gonna grab some ETH, STRAT and PIVX when the charts give me the entry signal.

I missed PIVX.

DGB is the new thing.

Have to add DGB to the list. And yeah, if there is any kind of hard pullback in PIVX I'll grab some, otherwise no go.

Check my portfolio:
https://www.cryptocompare.com/portfolio-public/?id=19486

I created it 2 days ago. And invested in DGB a bit, alongside SC

Cool! I need to be trading crypto more active instead of still paying attention to stocks and currencies, but it's an old habit and the fact that I can use bitcoin to trade those on 1broker.com has eaten up a bit of my attention.

Good common sense... work heard to build up a cache of currency (of any kind) and diversify it so as to increase growth and protection.

I like accumulating Steem to help others with voting power, but nice in a while drawing out to secure more working capital in other currency to help other people (as well as self) in other places that are not on Steemit is a great goal as well.

I have done the same trip as you .. Almost .. I never made any 500 SBD, and i haven't been here 9 months.
I have been here only a month, still try to figure out how to make some money on here.. I make post after post.. People comment and i reply.. I comment myself and tested.. But still only 4 SBD though :( while i see others on here who are making hundreds of dollars a day.
And yesterday went to the intruducemyself and there was a girl who signed up 2 days ago... This was her first post, just telling about herself a little.. Boom 380$ in 1 day and first post.. So there must be trix on here how to do it right.. Because i am obviously doing it WRONG!

But.. What i wanna say is.. I spent a few weeks on Poloniex trying to trade.. Ahahaha.. cost me some... Had 1 Btc and lost 0.7 on 2-3 pump and dumps the first week.. Was later into Ripple and made some back.. But also was stuck when the entire sita froze and when start wrk XRP was down 15%.. Many 100k was lost there.. During these 3-4 weeks i saw pure insider scam by Polo, i saw whales pump and dump scheme so i learned A LOT.. Expensive.. Sure.. Almost 2k $ in todays Btc price.. But in the end i got my btc back... I will never trade alt coin again with low volume.. I ant be in a coin that 1 single person can move 15-20% alone.
So my advice to newbies is.. Do as me and Sebastien here.. Put some small amount btc and try for yourself.. Be prepared that you can lose it all.. But that is the only way learn it properly .. Now i only go in when i see its safe.. The major part of my savings is in silver.. And that not a FIAT like dollar and crypto currency.. Its THE money.
"Gold is money, everything else is debt" J P Morgan.

Good luck!

Posts with pretty faces generally do very well....

Lol

Not mine then Lol

Then according to J. P Morgan, your silver is debt. :)

Explain please?

"Gold is money, everything else is debt" J P Morgan.

Silver is not gold, therefore it is debt according to this quote.

"Silver is poor mans gold" - JP Morgan
and since John Pierpont Morgan was rich ,,, Gold was his money of choice.
i.e it's easier to store 100 million of gold in bars than silver since it takes so much more space

So based on the principle in that statement Silver s is embedded.
How you have come up with that silver is debt because he didn't mentioned silver specifically , can only be referred to 1 of 2 things:

  1. You have no idea what you're taking about and not intelligent enough to make a logic conclusion of the principle of that quote
  2. You just wanna argue with me using arguments on a kids level.

FYI,
For an asset to be called money, it has to live up to a list of things,
Such as:
Durability.
Portability.
Divisibility.
Uniformity.
Limited supply.
Acceptability.
Store of value over time
And a few more, you can read all about it here:

Ouch

Steemit has certainly opened my eyes to other avenues that I did not know exist to make money. I am learning some new everyday. I hope to grow 500SBD to $20,000 like you.

Wow .. your story is very inspiring

A boobs pic counts for $10 of the $15 missing.
The rest is luck, reputation, and being on the right voting bots list :-)

I'm not fond of cryptos, but this is a great piece, and I want to thank you for it. Resteemed, upvoted, followed.

Badass guitar man! What is it a left handed LP Standard?

Thx!!

It is a Studio. Lefty

Here's a song I made, among others:

congrats to you ....so smart :-)

Mostly lucky... but people say that Luck is something you have to create.

yes...they say that "being there" is half the battle....well -- we are here with these digital currencies changing the world before our eyes ----- -while the media ignores educating people (interesting)

Good for you sebastien

That's a beauty. I play Ibanez myself, but love a Les Paul

just remember to allocate some of your winning to capital gains.. the guv always gets their food

Nice job, well done!

Congrats! Just one quick question why you didn't invest that 4K to earn more :p

I wish I had put 100k... but the "balls" parameter in the equation was not sufficient :p

Really cool. I tried doing the same thing, but pulled out after some losses (this was about a year ago).

Any resources you would recommend for learning?

Steemit is a great ressource.
bitcointalk.ogr forum too, albeit a lot of trash to manage... reading between the lines is a good thing.

I am working on a parsing algorithm that reads forums, and uses AI (Neural Networks) to figure out the best trends. In the end, it works a bit like Steemit, factoring the user's reputation based on the quality of their advice.

I did it "manually", and put a bit of money on BAY, NXT, WGR, and XVG based on the occurrences of good comments in forums.
I guess 3 out of 4 will be losses, but one may rise and compensate. (probably BAY)

Is there any way you could write a simple guide to help others and things to be cautious of. eg "I converted my SBD in BTC on bittrex, learning about the addresses, and learning about the difference between SBD and STEEM wallets the hard way (1 bad transfer did cost me a bit...)"

That's awesome! Congrats :)

Interesting indeed. Steem is a great platform to get into the crypto world. Only reasons i did anyway. Also a vehicle to produce original content i never would have released.

Congrats dude! You deserve it :)

Hey @sebastien,

thanks for this good read. Please let us Newbies know more! Even a link to some good resources to read might help.

Thanks

A lefty eh.

Great post! I love it!

The journey of learning is worth any "loss" you might take in the cryptocurrency world. The ideas and innovation behind blockchain technology is amazing and worth understanding.

In the software development world the advice you always get when you start learning some new language is to build something with it. You learn best that way and I think the same is true for crypto. You have to get involved. Although it is still nice to be ahead like in your case. 😁

That is a story to remember. I am still just getting my feet wet in the crypto world and it is stories like this that keep me here. Thank you for posting this and keeping my interest in Steemit.

Congrats and Welcome Back @sebastien

You have been PROMOTED FREE for using the "thankyou" TAG (hashtag)

Well done mate! :)

Damn it feels so good to read stuff like this. Im looking onto investing my first 200 SBD, I think I´ll follow your lead and hop into the market! Great post, you got yourself a new follower.

Inspiring post, thanks for sharing this!

Well done Sebastien !
I'm glad to see you back.
Thank you for your useful pieces of advice.

Great post. Congrats with your achievement.

This is some great motivation. Thank you!

Hey I haven't talked to you since TSU. Happy to see you are well. Yes I need to learn more about cryptocurrency but don't know where to start.
