RE: What Deserves To Be On Trending? What Is Trash and What Is Not?

in #steemit7 years ago

I read your post with some interest. Since joining Steemit in January I have come across so many minnows who are totally disillusioned by the platform after trying and getting nowhere. I suppose, like myself, they don't really understand how Steemit favours the wealthy and their hangers on.

Steemit is just a reflection of our capitalist society.
Money goes to money. If you believe that Steemit or our society are meritocracies then you are either a) deep in the matrix b) someone who is benefitting from a corrupt system.
I came onto Steemit for a variety of reasons. I hate Facebook, Google, Youtube etc which are big business vultures that are cap in hand with intelligence agencies while monetizing all the private information you give them.

I naively hoped that maybe I would come across like minded people with whom I could have a dialogue about issues I find important. I also felt that being a retired historian with a PhD that I maybe be able to pass on a little of the knowledge acquired over many decades of research and study. I also got tired of all the censorship and cliqueiness of academia and niche websites such as Global Research and other lefty alt media outlets. I suppose I agree with Groucho Marx who once said, I could never be a member of any club that would accept me as a member.

Sadly, I have found that most people on Steemit are not interested in discussing/reading about serious issues. I will carry on as I take great joy in researching new issues and then deepening my understanding by putting pen to paper. After all, I believe Aristotle basically said that happiness depends on ourselves and requires intellectual contemplation. In other words on Steemit write, create, post to please yourself not to win upvotes.
If you read this little rant then thank you. My apologies if it is not that focused upon your post.
