This post is now outdated.
It is not recommended to use more than 5 tags, or spam filters could be hit.
thank you for more info.. steemian
With this unexpected comment, I was able to feel how genuinely you think of readers.
Thank you for not only the insightful post, but also the sincere care that you gave.
Indeed. The old days where a million tags could be added to a single post. #rockstar ??? #badass ??? You're hilarious, my friend.
Definitely a #steemit-rockstar
Nick.
You've Hit the nail on the head. Great explanation and super useful for new members. Yes this place is growing to quick, so quick that even the website can't keep up. Already two crashes. I will start using your advice and start with the right #tag for my future post. Thanks for taking the time and we very much appreciated your efforts and we hope you are rewarded for doing so. Great content.
thanks mate :-)
it very useful content thank steemit
Thanks for explaining :) Really useful
Great idea about building up a new tag now, while it's still relatively easy.
Extremely useful post. I've been tagging my posts out of habit but hadn't considered many of these things. I also was unaware of the hashtag method of tagging.
Wow, very nice write up. A must read for bloggers!
Thanks for sharing. I'm new to steemit and plan to share content mainly on deep learning and AI. Looking through https://steemit.com/tags, I didn't see any tags that my particular topics of interest would fit into very well. Now after reading your post, I have a better understanding of how tagging works in steemit and have created the #deep-learning tag.
One question though, the link I referenced above shows all of the current "trending tags." Is there a way to view all tags that have been used on steemit?
Nice article, appreciate the tips thank you. :)
Thanks! I'm a newbie here, and you've shared some valuable information. Much appreciated!
Great work!... Thx
Really helpful post. Thank you!
thanx i finally understand the whole tag thing
/masterpost
Nice job! A lot of people don't udnerstand the value of targeting so it's great that you took the time and energy to explain it in depth. Cheers.
thanks for the feedback :-)
Great post and i found some really vital information while reading. Really appreciate you sharing, thankyou:)
I tagged everything as soon as I've read) thanks)
This was a great help, thanks so much!
Thank you @rok-sivante for this excellent informational post :)
Excellent, this is just the info I was looking for!
Thanks
Thank you, I have made a lot of posts but never really got the exposure I expected; this has been a revelation!!!!
nice!! ty
I love it. You hit it on the head
Thank you for this post. A lot of great ideas you came up with to get visibility.
Is it really good to put a long list of tags or just 3-5 tags will be enough?
hey rok,
How did you get to tag so many tags on your post?
As per the dozen+ other responses to comments, this post is outdated.
A mandatory read for new Steemit authors! Tags are the only good way of organizing the vast amount of content on the site. Authors need to be proficient for their content to be found, which gives the opportunity for more interested parties to read it and benefit.
I am upvoting because this needs to be a 'sticky note' and return (yes, it is 2 weeks old) to the trending lists or perhaps a #WelcomeToSteemit-ReadMeFirst section? Just an idea people...
Yup, just like the internet is supposed to work, thanks for the confirmations! Day 3 here, and I'm using Google to enter my questions about Steemit, and am getting really good results doing that. My question was "how many tags does Steemit allow?" and this was the top match (on Google).
While not answered directly, you answered by example, and by being obviously successful at getting traffic/votes. That matters to me, but NOT spamming or violating the community standards is my first concern. I've already seen that I'm the only match on some tags I'm using (like UFOs) and am pretty sure that tagging the more obscure terms (where relevant, of course, as you said) is the very smart long term play. There will be millions of people here soon, and being at the top of any category will pay off. And I don't just mean monetarily, just in readers, audience, etc. Thanks again!
This sir! Is a good hint thanks for that!
Very valuable info, thank you. Wish I could pay you with a microtransaction. Oh, wait, don't need to!
that would be the vote ;-)
I've been tagging everything I write....but this has opened my eyes to a few thoughts on tagging that hadn't occurred to me. Thank You.
I always just put different names in the tag field? Am I supposed to be hash tagging them instead of just writing them for example ill put steemit steem internet writing etc. or should I be using #steemit #steem etc. Im referring to the tag bar at the bottom. Thanks great post
you can put in the tag field OR use a hashtag within the post itself. i don't think it makes a difference which you do.
that's just fine, that given the opportunity to put the tags using the # symbol on the first day when I registered it did not work, and now put the tags become very simple.
Very nice post. you must resd this!
I've always been afraid of committing tag abuse, but at this point, it's probably better to overdo it a tad rather than underdo it a lot.
...is "underdo" a word?
indeed it is: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/underdo
it seems to me, is not enough in screenshots formatting
gracias por tus consejos, la comunidad que habla español poco a poco crece
very usefull information, thank you
Thank you for posting this I'm new to the blogging thing and you've really broken down the basics of it now I know why my post aren't getting up-votes thanks again I'll try the things mentioned here!
thanks for your help. This allows me to think outside the box. promoting posts on steemit is cool but there are a lot of other media channels to develop on too. I appreciate your time!
Cool,thx)
Good post. thanks for sharing this info with us all!
Thanks
Namaste my friend and thank you for posting this content. Ya'll are really lighting up the neurons.
perfect! :-)
Great explanation! Thanks alot for sharing this information.
I missed this post due to the hacks. Very nicely read. Still upvoting, even though I missed the payouts on it. You deserve it!
thanks mate :-)
Wonderful explanation! I have an online craft shop on a popular site so I'm familiar with the importance of tagging but your article brought some very important ideas back to the forefront for me.
Thank you, this was very helpful for me as well, even that I'm a new one here!
well, all fine and dandy, but can you follow tags on this platform? can you subscribe to tags? can you even find all posts with a certain set of tags?
to my knowledge, cannot follow or subscribe to tags - though should be able to find posts with tags simply using the search at the top.
also must note that this post is probably outdated, as had heard a couple months after that it's best to limit tags to about 5, otherwise the system may consider more as a form of spam...
That was excellent! Thank you for the clear and comprehensive mini tutorial on the importance and benefits of strategic tagging.
Your welcome, though it may be likely that post is outdated. I'm pretty sure some point not too long aftrr it was written, protocols here changed and using too many tags was considered spam. I don't know if that has changed since, or the standard is still just five...
Yeah, I just found out that 5 was the maximum, but the importance of your highlighted points are still relevant.
How did you add more than 5 tags? It's telling me that's the limit.
This post is outdated. Could still use hastags but wouldnt advise using too many as system may pick it up as spam...
What about the fact that we don't have tags with spaces? What about the fact that we can't subscribe to tags or set of tags? I have to make bookmarks in my browser?
