Do Not Abuse the UpVote!! | What Happens and What to do if Overused?

Almost every Steemit user has probably noticed their upvote value decreasing following multiple repetitive upvotes for either their own content or other posts made on the network. Interested in discovering exactly what is happening and how the system is designed to deal with upvote power/ value of each user, I set out to do as much research as I could in order to decrypt Steemit's code.

As most people probably know by now, the more upvotes you make the more each one decreases in value. But by how much does each upvote go down, how does your upvote power regenerate and how can you track your upvote usage in order to prevent completely draining it.
There is a direct correlation between the quantity of Steem Power that you have and the value of your upvote. This in turn, boosts your overall voting impact as well as increases your total available bandwidth which dictates how much information you are able to store on the blockchain.

Voting power and effectiveness is calculated using a percentage system. Everyone starts out with 100% and this gradually decreases with each upvote you make. The rate of decline varies from user to user depending on the total amount of Steem Power that each person has.
Now your voting power will continue to decline the more you upvote, but it is when you hit the 20% mark that your voting power becomes as valuable as a user with 1/5th of your total Steem Power. Thankfully the decline of your voting power is not permanently lost, as it regenerates around 20% every 24 hours. However if you own an account that has less than 20% of its total voting power left it is recommended that you take a few days to a week off so that it can regenerate as your voting value will be essentially worthless.

So, you now know the importance and value of your upvote and want to maintain the power within a healthy margin, but how can you monitor it. Well I have found two different tools that work quite well at giving you a solid breakdown of the health and overall summary of your account.

#1 SteemDollar.com

Now this is one of my personal favorite monitoring tools as it is simplified and very straight forward. I have found the current voting power percentage to be very accurate but I am not entirely sure if the upvote value is totally correct as I do not have anyway of confirming or cross-referencing the data. That being said this online tool works great and gives you all of the information that you need in order to keep track of your current standing.

#2 SteemStats.com

https://steemstats.com

This online tool has a bunch of very useful information and data that is collected on your account, with your voting percentage being only a very small aspect of the entire service. As you can see with the above close up, the account tab showcases your current percentage right below the username. Now unlike the first tool, this one lacks the per vote dollar amount but it does contain the total amount of votes made within the previous 24 hours.

Now hopefully you found this information helpful and I would strongly suggest that you check out both of the tools that are listed as it can give you a lot of great insight into your account which can be used to maximize your productivity and profitability.

Thanks for the information. Theres seems to be a lot of miuse of the upvote and flagging going on this month in Steem. I hope the Steem it team gets it under control and send a message out to the community so this doesnt become a bigger issue.

Yes I have noticed that myself. Steemit is a very revolutionary concept that I think could easily take over other monetized platforms and give the power back to the creators themselves. To be fair it has a ways to go yet but at the same time it is very exciting to be a part of something like this!
