Nothing in life comes for free, so stop complaining and start working. Steemit is an amazing platform which rewards you for your work in generating quality content. It has thousands of followers and with or without you it is going to reach its fate.
It is my 4th day here at steemit and I learnt 3 main shortcuts to survive here and make it big
1) Work Hard: The world is full of hard working people, don't compare your work but work up to your potential. Give it your best, after all even the whales has to curate the best of the content. People will always encourage a good work, because you are in a community like that.
2) Generate quality content : Be creative, be informative and be original. Let people relate with your content, speak of your experiences, opinions and stories. Let yourself open to the world of steemit. Your brain is a theater, perform your play from your heart, people will listen through their heart.
3) Don't Believe in shortcuts : Upvote for an Upvote, follow for a follow are old school tricks, I suggest the confidence you have others to life you up should be kept on yourself.. Wonders happen even without you knowing it.
I believe these principles are enough to take you the distance you intend to go
