Steemit doesn’t have messaging per se but you can send someone a memo for 0.001 Steem or 0.001 SBD. It’s on the blockchain so everyone can see it. But if you put a hashtag and a space before the rest of the text, it becomes encrypted. You and the recipient see it as clear text, everyone else sees gobbledygook.
