The kitten that could.... A short story about how my cat has helped my depression.

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

So once upon a time there was this kitten......

Her name is KeeKee. We all know our cats have a special skill for bringing a smile to our faces, whether it's through fur baby lovins, or cuddles. Well this little lady landed in my lap from a post I had came across on Craigslist. In February 2016, my house was involved in a house fire and I lost 2 cats, a Yorkie, and some aquatic friends.... It was a very hard time for me losing not only everything I owned, but also all of my fur babies(who I consider my children). 6 months after the fire I felt it was too soon to adopt, but I decided to take a look anyways. The instant connection with this cat was almost unspeakable. It's almost like she said "we would be great best friends." I immediately knew I had to have her. Since then, she has grown to be the closest thing to me that is non-human. She has got me through many tears, as well as good times and bad.

She has grown so much over the course of the last year, and we have grown so close as a team. Some of the reasons why cats are great for our mental health are obvious as they provide comfort and friendship. I have been so lucky to have her as a friend, it's a wonderful feeling to have a fur friend.

Like many people, I also do enjoy Dogs and the companionship they can provide.... I have just had so much a connection with KeeKee that I haven't found the need for a dog. I feel so lucky, as she has helped with my mental well-being ten fold. Recently... we decided it was time for her to be able to have a sister... and like clockwork, they have been inseparable since... So I'll also introduce you to Ms. Leia in this post. These are my girls, these are my children. I love my Cats as much as I would love another human.

Cheers to the cat lovers

Thanks for the advice! New to the plat

Pretty kitties! Sad story, but glad your new fur babies are helping you cheer up!

For a long time I wasnt very fond of cats, but nowadays, it's hard to fall asleep without our furbabies in bed with us! As someone who battles mental wellbeing as well, they're a huge help in feeling better after a rough patch.

Awww :) So precious!

I like the part about the kitty
