I do concur man, it's annoying, I've pretty much given up using the steemit gateway. I'm not one bang my head on the wall for too long so have found a different approach. I am getting used to busy.org for all my computer desktop posts and using the esteem app on mobile. They both take a bit getting used to but after about a week I'm feeling pretty comfortable with them, they are pretty much error free man. I know you often mention your cell phone is a bit obsolete, but I do recommending giving them a try. Save your sanity.
