For me the only way Steemit makes any sense is to act as an individual. No hosting other's stories, no guilds, no trails, no bots (as if). I blog, those that like it vote. I vote on stuff I like. If I am interested in a subject I will check the tag.

I am trying to express myself through my blog and then also post things that I think are either helpful or interesting.. haha and hopefully there is somebody else out there who also likes it and then votes for my posts :-)
I think support groups are useful and i'm not vouching for any specifc one. I believe they Help train newer users and get them integrated into blockchain AND blogging, which many people are new to. If the Steemit community is to grow, like it or not, being a blogger is sort of almost necessary, especially for none cash investors, a skill that many don't have at first. In this light, I find support groups useful.
I can see your point, but I think what sometimes happens is the "support" groups manipulate the newer, more inexperienced users.
Thankfully, blockchains promote transparency.
