I understand the problem that @ mention spamming obviously presents if used too frequently. And I see the slope is slippery as far as allowing its use without any guidelines. But, at the same time, insofar as steemit is a community of sorts, which rely on the interest and attention of its most esteemed members, it seems to me you guys at the very top are by your nature, being there, the equivalent of public figures IRL.
Now, in real life, if a lunatic wants to call a senators office over and over again, the senator never has to deal with it. Some poor secretary sits at desk and answers the phone all day. I understand that here, if this were a thing that happened all the time, it would drive you crazy. But, I can think of two legitimate reasons to use such a tool:
The first, would be as a form of social protest. I can imagine a scenario where the "proletariat" equivalent steemit user bands together and takes the only action against their bourgeois overlords which they are actually empowered to take - namely annoyance.
The second, though, and the one I hope I fall into, is to use this kind of mass call when you actually have something of value to show all those people. Obviously that's hugely presumptuous and totally subjective, but in terms of the equities at play, it seems a fair trade.
My thoughts are this. I don't like it. You won't get my upvote from it. I promise you that. You are very likely to receive my flag. I'm trying to be nice and not flagging you this time, but next time you do this, you will definitely get flagged.
Also, it happens that I lend voting power to minnowsupport. I keep seeing this account upvoting spam like this, I may be force to pull my delegation from this account. So you risking the minnowsupport account getting weaker.

I specifically said, and MEANT, that I had no judgment of any kind, good or bad, for whales, minnows or anyone else who takes part in the rat race. My point was only that even though a lot of people on here espouse sort of this new age, radical position that somehow steemit is above plain old "sell yourself for a penny" capitalism, they're fundamentally wrong.
I did use a bunch of pictures from the turn of the 20th century which were used to support socialist and communist positions, and the terms proletariat and bourgeois - not because I'm a socialist, but for the same reason those images and terms were successfully used to foment revolution in the first place: They speak to timeless truths about humanity.
Unlike some, I have no illusions about humanity, or our ability to live in some Star Trek perfection. That's why I called it a rumination - because it would be funnier and more effective when the whole thing revealed itself to be, in effect, a used car ad.
