Changes are afoot in the way we will vote and not everyone is happy about it.
I even wrote a post about how I didn't like the new vote throttling feature as I thought it was too confusing for the average user. I have since come around.
It is my belief that the underlying change is a good idea, but so far it has failed at the presentation layer.
0% to 100% - What exactly does that mean?
I designed a quick and dirty mockup of how I think the UX of casting a vote would improve if just one additional element were added and some language tweaks were made. Take a look at the mockup below...

Why Does This New Design Work?
As I noted above, 0% to 100% is quite confusing to the average user. Replacing those values with 'Min' and 'Max' and instead showing how power adjustments impact the users total voting power allows the user to easily understand what is occurring behind the scenes, at least at a superficial level which is all that is required for most users. Additionally, future changes to the voting algorithm could be implemented and this design would never need to be adjusted, thus the user would never again need to be shocked by a new system and UI being thrown at them.
This was just a thought I had this morning, but I really think it would be a great addition to the site.
Please let me know what you all think...
EDIT: Fixed mockup gif
I personally love the vote throttle. It should be in RPM. Would be cute if it looked like a tach.
Cast the vote or don't cast the vote, there is no need to throttle it. Kinda like some of the survey questions at my job "On a scale of one to ten did your technician Arrive within the scheduled time frame".
The only thing is your vote pays the author. When you go to a restaurant is it 'tip or no tip'? No. You decide the value based on the service. I like the idea of having better control to reward the best content. I just want to be clear on how it impacts my ability to upvote future content.
It is tip or don't tip for me even if your analogy is some what lopsided. I go to the restaurant if the service was adequate or above they get a tip if the service was mediocre or bellow they don't . but I have to say I am a compulsory tipper and what pisses people off at a restaurant with there service don't bother me none.
Steemit is quite confusing for an average non-crypto person and at least if the proposed slider were added it would show the consequences of upvoting in relation to voting power. I have no idea how my voting power will be comprimised just by sliding the throttle up and down, but I am also not that into curating!
I believe if you set it to 10% and always vote that way then it is as if nothing has changed.
