The despair is real - being a rather new steemit user

in #steemit8 years ago

Starting as a complete newbie on this platform is harsh. It's not even that you're getting hate or anything, it's just the fact that you're being ignored. Your thoughts and feelings are just not being read, and that's a really bad feeling for us new guys.

I personally took some effort to write 2 rather valuable posts, and I got like 5 upvotes in total, 2 of them being my one. After that, I wrote an "introduceyourself" post, and guess what? I got 15 upvotes. How does this make sense? I did nothing but sharing an image of myself and stating my name. That's worth more than my thoughts about serious topics?

It's discouraging, I know. You see intro posts that make bank and think, how did this person make so much just for saying hi and I got $7? But I'm thinking those are outliers and that most of us are landing with a thud right out the gate. Let's be real, it's the Internet and hot chicks (or those now savvy enough to pose as such) will always get upvotes.

I'm new too, but so far I've realized that timing is important. Like Reddit, posting early in the am US time = invisible post. And tags are important. An experienced hand making $ told me your best bet is to write about Steem itself or some how make a link between your subject and Steemit. Keep throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks seems to be the best advice for now.

Just keep up writing original conent what you know and love.
There is a new post in every 5 seconds, it is really hard to read everything. It is more likely that ppl with less power read and vote your post. But if you are lucky and somebody with much steempower discover your post, it can start a chainreaction to the top.
Also people likes to upvote introductions to make newbies happy.

I had the same experience, I wrote a very personal story about a cult that killed some of my friends and it was largely ignored, but if I make a new meme or write something funny I seem to get a better response. I doubt I will be bearing my soul for a while, it is too hard to write about personal matters just to be ignored, so I will stick to the lighthearted funny stuff.

i got exactly the same. But it look like the "whales" have a policy to vote on certain items like hot chicks, make up, steemit related and travel.

same happened with my post Introducing Steemit OS best operating system for your PC!!! it took some effort and i got 12 votes :)

it will take time for there to be the mass of people participating like reddit has at any given time. which will mean more votes to go around different people will vote on different things and topics they like. I know the feeling It seems easy to get over looked right now

Ah, the joys of being a minnow in an ocean of whales. This site is currently running an agenda to promote and reward 'hip' people to lure in more people.

Nothing much we can do about it I'm afraid.
