I am new to Steemit. Here some thoughts I have after my first impression.
Languages
The first thing I noticed as a mainly german speaking person is how my language is treated as a tag. Really? Are you so US (english)focused? I think on an international decentralized medium that is about writing stories, the language selection should be handled separate as a filter. And it should be possible to set my preferred languages in my profile.Upvoting and quality of posts
After my first view I got the impression that Steemit is just about earning steem money. People post just anything and then upvote each other, regardless of the quality of the posts. A lot of the posts don't even contain original content, but stuff copied from somewhere else on the internet. In my opinion the actual voting systems does not achieve the goal of Steemit, rewarding people for good content.
I only joined about 45 days ago and the content has slowly gotten worse. The more popular Steemit becomes, the more it will become like other social media sites. I think it would help if in the next HF, they find a way for us to flag without taking away voting power. Or give people the power to flag if they have a certain amount of steem. The copying and pasting is a little annoying. At least the cheetah bot catches it.
As for the languages...I'm sure that will happen eventually but I kind of like seeing all the languages on the front page. For those who want to stick to just their own language, there are the subs like kr, cn, and the like.
With technology nowadays, it's the click of a button to translate it. This is truly a connected and international community.
