Reminder: Update Your Automated Voting Percentages for Hardfork 19

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Hardfork 19 is less than 10 hours away and one of the changes involves the target number of votes per day decreasing from 40 to 10. This means if you vote the same way you do now, the influence of your vote will be 4 times stronger, but the strength of it will go down 4 times as fast.

If you're not sure what your current voting power is, you can always view it on Steemd here:

Or on SteemDB here:

If your voting power is usually quite high (as mine tends to be) you will pleasantly find your vote having more influence tomorrow after the hardfork and you may not even notice much difference. If, on the other hand, you do a lot of voting each day or you have automated voting set up, now is the time to adjust your vote percentages or you may quickly find yourself with depleted vote power.

Here's how you do that within Steemvoter which I use to support some authors and friends who I think bring consistent value to this platform:

Edit a rule:

Change the percentage and save:

That's it!

I'm really curious to see what happens tomorrow. I often find my voting strength in the 90%'s, so I think I'm going to leave things as they are for now and keep giving out 100% votes via steemvoter until I know just how HF19 impacts my vote power.

As a side note, I also wanted to slip in a little milestone celebration point in here.

I'm up over 2,000 followers and 6,000 comments/posts!

Thank you for following me on this fun Steemit journey. According to steemstory.com, I registered on Saturday, June 25th as the 13,452nd account. I didn't post until July 6th. It's fun to think I'm coming close to my 1st Steemit anniversary. Some of you have been with me through much of that ride.

Thank you!

I'm really excited for my first hardfork! I'm like...

Very good article, but one question: do you know how to change one's voting power for manual upvotes?

I just wrote this on chainBB, but can't see a way to do it within Steemit nor Steemvoter.

Thanks

Hahah... nice

lol! nice. +1 follower for that.

That's the cutest think I saw today :) meow !

Chuckles irl. Here's an upvote :)

I just heard this news.
Although I have not understood correctly the problem of HF 19.
Hopefully I am not wrong using voting rights, and also hopefully my voting is useful for steemit

You can follow @steemitblog for more on changes and upcoming news.

Oke thanks for more information

Thank you for reminding, I believe lots of the fellow Steemians do not know much about what's going on with HF 19, and what is going to change to their Voting Power.
I am looking forward to this HF, the very first HF of my own. Finger crossed, hope it will have a positive effect to Steemit!

the very first HF of my own

Nice. Welcome to blockchain history. :)

Awesome milestone!!

And great update on the hardfork. I barely even vote 10 times per day as it stands, and when I do I fork over 100% lol

Probably stupid, but it seems like this update might be lending itself more to my style of stupidity lol

@shayne

Thanks Shayne! I usually vote 100% for the same reasons, as I don't vote a ton compared to the bots out there.

Hi Luke,
That's a really great post - it's quite confusing sometimes to work out how much voting power I've got and when - and I've just learnt a whole lot from this - which will be really useful. Much appreciated and Congratulations on your amazing Steemit Journey!! ;-)

Thank you! It's been a fun ride for sure!

This is a really well written post about the hardfork. So many people are going to have questions about this tomorrow...

Thanks, I couldn't have said any of this better myself.

I should mention though, I personally don't use steemvoter, and don't know anything about it (yet). I'll check into it though.

Thanks intelliguy. I tried streemian a while back and didn't really like the idea of other people controlling my votes, but I do use steemvoter a bit in order to reward consistently beneficial authors and friends who I think regularly provide great value here, and I want to encourage them to continue.

Thanks for reminding us! I tend to upvote everything I do with 100 %, so I will need to change this after the hardfork, or else my SP will be drained quickly.

And congrats on those milestones ;)

Thank you for the congrats!

I think my plan is to just keep doing what I've been doing and see what happens. It's going to be fun!

Very informative, @lukestokes
Ready for HF19?

Yep. My witness node has been on 0.19.0 since June 6th. :)

That's great, Luke

I'm planning to go to sleep now, and I almost forgot about Steem Voter!
Thank you very much:)

You're welcome!

Is steemstats.com reliable for monitoring voting power as well? That's the only thing I've been looking at.

Yes, it uses the same data as all the other websites that show it, so it will show the correct number ;)

Sure! That works also. Both Steemstats and SteemDB were built by @jesta. He rocks.

If the voting reduces 4 times faster then set the voting power at 25% and vote as usual.

6,000 post is absolutely insane - thank you for being such a huge contributor on SteemIt lukestokes. HF19 here we come!

Thanks for the reminder! Tomorrow will be a very very interesting day!

Interesting indeed! An hour and a half away now!

We all are really excited. Nice article!

Very good post, lets hope that all will go well today. I upvoted many posts (including this one haha) and thus my voting power is so small...will reduce the amount of post I vote daily..Following you in order to get more updates...lets stay in touch and thanks a lot

Great info! And congrats!

I'm a minnow so is it worth me doing this?

Depends on how you define worth, I guess. How and why you vote is up to you. It's not just about curation rewards. If you don't have very much Steem Power, your curation rewards will not be much and your vote will not count for much.

I'm literally doing this now. Ugh, manual entry...lol.

Ha ha ha....took me an hour yesterday but also did this manually.

Dang! That's a lot of people to automatically vote for.

Honestly do you think that people will now vote less? I changed my settings on my steemvoter to 25 % as it makes the most sense...as much sense as I can make of this hardfork..lol! Are you optimistic about this change?

No, I think it will increase the influence of people who vote manually over those who vote with bots. Those who vote too much will see their voting power decrease which will lower their influence on the network. I am optimistic about most everything, so yes, I'm optimistic about this change as well. Going from quadratic to linear is an important move.

Yes, I agree with the above thoughts. I manually curate with this account and am looking forward to the increased control in the weight of my vote has. I use steemvoter for my namesake account which is much smaller and less active, but I still want to curate the core group I follow with it.

Yeah, a bulk update feature would be nice for sure.

I like the breakdown you gave, I'm feeling a bit more optimistic now about HF19. I'm usually in the 90-100% range for voting power so it sounds like I'll be in good shape here.

I heard that if I reduce my voting power, I'll be able to reward more content creators every day. Is that a fair statement? Which way is the most rewarding for me?

I heard that if I reduce my voting power, I'll be able to reward more content creators every day.

That's only a concern if you find your voting power going down so much that your vote is no longer very valuable. It you're in the 90-100% range most of the time, then it seems that's not a problem and you can already vote for more people before you're notice a difference.

Which way is the most rewarding for me?

The more value you distribute, the more curation rewards you get, but it is proportional to the strength of your vote. Best bet may be to experiment a bit and see what works for you.

Congrats on the milestones and thanks for the reminder about voting power!

Since I manually curate and comment I'll just remind myself that I need to be more mindful of how, where and how much voting weight I'm handing out. Still curious to see how this plays out... and whether newcomers effectively will feel more empowered. I guess we'll see you "on the other side."

Thank you! Yeah, I hope it makes a difference and spreads things around a bit. Whales will start full power voting again (and at potentially 4X their previous vote strength) so that could be interesting also.

Hi Luke! So proud of your accomplishments. I have been writing some content that i haven't posted. I've been inspired by the quantity of help you've been providing to the community. I wanted to know if you had any tips/recommendations/examples of what you think are standout introduce yourself posts. It's the one I have been putting off, but it's so important! Thanks!

Hmm, that's a great question. I don't know. I've seen quite a bit of them. I tried to model mine (which I link to as Luke Stokes in my signature) after ones I saw that I liked. I think it's important to include pictures along with a sense of who you are and why someone might want to get to know you more and follow your blog in the future. Good luck!

Didn't know about Steemstory, thats a great find! Love how it graphs everything! Thanks for the link Luke!

You're welcome! I try to throw stuff like that into my posts here and there just in case people haven't come across them yet. The best place to find cool Steem related tools is at http://steemtools.com/

Yea but that one is definitely a gem! ;] I had to use it on both accounts though and piece them together in my mind, loool!

This is like hardfork eve. When all the steemits in steemvale are going to bed, dreaming of there hardfork and what it will do. Every steemer in steemvale the tall and the small will be singing with out any presents at all.

Hahah, nicely done. Let's see if we get oranges or coal in our stockings.

Ah, okay. I couldn't make sense of how it was going to affect these thing, thank you for this explanation.

Glad it was helpful.

Upvoted and resteemed :-)

Thank you!

I had forgotten you can go over to Steemd and check all of this kind of thing out. I was surprised I'm close to 100% voting power. I tend to vote up everything I see organically on the site and forget about it. The way people were talking recently about the hard fork, I started to worry and decided to dole out less than 100%. I think I'm going to go back to 100% voting and just forgetting about it.

Edit: Oh and congrats on 2000 followers! I just hit 100 today. I'm still excited about it :D.

Thank you and congrats on the 100!

Yeah, the hardfork happens in about 2 hours, so you wouldn't see any change until after then. Either way, if your vote power goes down quickly, just hold of voting for a bit and it will recover.

thanks, luke! btw, does it also mean that our 1% vote will be 4 times bigger? I think so... but there is no way we can tune it down below 1% right? Just realize that this might affect my votes on many comments ...

Yeah, the Steemit interface doesn't allow a vote below 1%. I wonder if the cli_wallet would... might be something worth trying.

Real added value-post man.
thx a lot!

You're welcome! Glad it was helpful to you.

This is a good advice. Thanks for the reminder! Hardly wait to see the changes!!!🐋😈🥇

Less than 2 hours away :)

Congrats on 2000/6000. I'm looking forward to the hard fork :)

Thanks Jason!

Thanks for the info on the auto voters Luke, I would assume not many minnows are used to this way of voting like the bigger players are?

Yesterday I blogged about what I think the new folk need to do re:HF19, and that is to get to 500 SP as quick as possible!

Cheers, Asher.

There are many aspects of Steemit that we all just learn over time. I've been hear almost a year, so I've absorbed a lot of details. Those who are really involved pick things up as well. I like the encouragement for people to invest to get to 500 SP. Upvoted.

Thanks very much for the support, I hope I've sent a few minnows swimming in the right direction today!

you have done a lot in a year -well done

Thank you for the info. New to Steemit I will see how this plays out and be aware thanks to you :) followed and upvoted.

Thank you for the follow! Always greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info and the heads up

You're welcome!

Good information thank you!

I am not very known with voting bots. Does it work good? It looks pretty easy, might have to use it in thge future, especially when the power changes I guess.

also waiting for what the fork will bring.. hope i will make Steemit an even better place to be active on.

Yeah, Steemvoter works quite well. You can follow @steemitblog for more details on what the hardfork will change.

Ok thanks, will do!

@lukestokes I do not understand everything as a newbie. Won't this reduced my chances as a newbie to get upvotes?

How do you figure that?

Who could tell me about the changes of the 0 to 30 minutes curation rewards
sharing increase between curator and author?

From Steemit's blogpost:

Curation Rewards
The change to the curation rewards curve will not have a noticeable impact on curation rewards and is necessary simply to prevent the linear reward curve changes from having a material impact on curation rewards.

This means it remains the same with the rewards being less near 0 mins and much near and after 30 mins of the posting time?

Yes, that part is unchanged.

That's so wonderful to support valuable members indeed!

Thanks Mammasitta. :)

Excellent and very useful post. Thank you and congratulations. X

Thanks!

Thank you. Do not use this site as it has been stolen by @jennswall @finleyexp ! If I get it back I will contact you. Previous support most appreciated. A friend is posting this for me. X

This is a lie. The @get-baking site has not been stolen.

I'm sorry to inform you that you've been flagged by another user (not me! I'm just a helpful bot keeping you informed. Please upvote this comment if you appreciate it.)

@lukestokes The @get-baking account is being held in lieu of payment for services rendered from March 2017 to present. The outstanding debt falls just under 4000 euros.

I do not make it a policy to speak against others. I had continued to help this person even after the initial slander was introduced to the community of Steemit, but in this case I feel the need to defend these accusations with the proof that I have at hand.

Here is the link to the outstanding bill: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-jkKuiB-6vmR4I_UVDGijb3960dUrL37qjbtA8ZVZcw/edit?usp=sharing

Absolute joke. These two recon I have asked them to do work of 5,500 Euros in 3 months. Not likely when I needed every penny to buy my house. I even sold my Audi Q7 car to do this. I am also an ex Applied Computer Science teacher and Head of Department. Why would I pay them to do this amount of work on Steemit development? I can and have done it myself. It really is so pathetic just to try and scare me into not persuing the fraud committed against myself which I am involving the police here in Spain. A full history will be my first post on my new site. I will forward it to all my followers. Please view this pathetic attempt to explain their actions. Ah well reminded, need to change my bots

Thanks Luke. Nice info.

No problem.

Is there a secret method to voting after 15 minutes and before 30 minutes? (-=

Tahnks for informetions am following you

thank you. can we still do this on the actual figure as we upvote?

Not sure what you mean by "this"? Do you mean can you still adjust the vote percentage using the slider? Yes, as long as you're above 500 SP.

that was it. thank you

Congrats on the 2000 followers and 6000 posts! I just followed you today so I'll be adding to that lol. And this hardfork has definitely helped me out. Mainly because I'm a little guy and I'm starting to see my blog posts worth more, it's motivating. Keep up the great work! :)

Congratulations @lukestokes
You took 90 place in my Top 100 of posts
