Having just arrived from Reddit, one thing that seems to be missing in Steem are content categories. The front page is one big soup of assorted content (like you'd expect a front page to be), but there doesn't seem to be any way to filter it that I've found. The tag list on the right acts like more of a suggestion than an actual category system, with results often being completely unrelated to the selected tag.
Perhaps I failed to notice a site feature that provides this, or it's something that's still being worked on, but if that's not the case, Steemit could really stand to gain from adding it, because as interesting as the revenue system may be, it's harder to gain mainstream popularity if users don't have the ability to select what content they want to see.
What do you think? Is it easy for you to find the kind of content you're looking for? How do you do it?

I agree, the subreddit structure of Reddit really makes things much easier to navigate and I think Steem should borrow from this approach. I wonder if it might be possible for users to have influence points broken down by category so that each category has its own group of superusers/influencers. This way each category might have its own distinct "culture" and could allow for a larger diversity of opinions and content.

Agreed, it'd be quite useful if we could subscribe to different tags as well as view a list of content of only one particular tag as opposed to the mishmash of posts as you describe above. It is already getting to be incredibly tedious to scroll through the "new" section and would much rather focus on content in topics I am already interested in.
