Are We Living in the Most Interesting Time in History?

I’m old enough to remember life before the internet and cell phones. Looking back to my childhood the best times of my life were riding my bicycle far away from home and exploring in the woods near our house. This is something many kids don’t do today. This isn’t a post about romanticizing the past, but instead it gives me perspective of life before our modern technological explosion.
Looking back over just the last twenty years, the world has changed/progressed SO much. If you told me in 1995 the stuff that we can do today, my mind would be blown. For the younger generation, or even for us that have just gotten used to modern technology, our modern world can seem ho-hum. Besides the technology advances in the last twenty years, here are a couple more examples of why I believe we are living in the most interesting time in history.

Economics:

I believe our current world debt and economic situation will go down in the history books and will be studied by future generations. The world started an all fiat experiment in the 1970’s in which all fiat money is backed by nothing. In 2007 we had a preview of the fragility of modern economics. Instead of fixing the fundamental issues, we “papered” over them and now are in a world-wide debt in the hundreds of trillions of dollars. We have been on record low interest rates for a decade. Not to mention the all-time high in corporate and consumer debt. This seems like a grand experiment in fiat debt, and I have a feeling it will end badly.

Cryptocurrency and decentralization:

Another reason we live in such interesting times is the rise of cryptocurrency, blockchains and decentralization. I can imagine a world in the not too distant future where physical cash, currency issued from a government and held by banks will be obsolete.
We are at the early stages of the blockchain revolution. I’m sure we’ll see services and products that are blockchain and decentralized that I can’t even imagine at this time. In its short life Steemit is already breaking ground on social media. Instead of a centralized group getting rich from people’s content, the people are making money by adding quality content to the blockchain. This is amazing stuff!
I think we’re still in the early stages of this technological and economic revolution. But simply because we’re living in the times of these transition makes me believe we are living in the most interesting times in human history.
I’d love to hear your feedback on the comments sections.

Keep on Steemin’ on!

Oh man when you look at the reality of our economic situation it's obvious that we're in a super intersting point in history... Debt is considered to be completely okay and credit is the current way of operating... This is why I love Steemit and the ability to meet likeminded people, because when SHTF we will need each other more than anything.. @lonestarpoet

Good point!

No doubt. The internet kicked it off in the 90's and we've been doubling up on information ever since. It's definitely the most interesting time in my opinion

Thanks for the feedback. We get so used to the modern age we forget sometimes :)

nice post...
thanks for sharing

Thanks.

Man, if you think about it that's actually really true... good post!

Thanks.

This kinda reminds me of the Justin Timberlake movie from 2011"In Time"instead of getting paid in time we'll be getting paid in crypto.

Could be!

This fiat paper is the MOTHER of all the bubbles, if we don't stop this madness it will make out technology useless because we will be going back to the stone-age. Interesting times my friend, cheers.

We are in the midst of a new and great change. How it will unfold and whether it will be for the better is yet to be seen. What each of us here on Steemit can say, is we looked around at the financial world, and the world of social media and decided, to quote the Donald, this place looks like a shit hole and we need to get out! Keep stacking, silver gold and crypto!

Yes, I would agree with much that you present here. Things have changed so much and technology has grown exponentially, crypto and blockchain with it.

When you consider the rise of Artificial Intelligence in this mix its easy to see that we are accelerating at such a fast pace only those with the skills of super fast adaptability will keep up!

My first ever post on steemit about 10 days ago considered this very topic, from the point of view of NOT fearing this decentralised potentially AI run financial future, to the point of active and conscious co-operation with the emergent lifeform that we call AI, both now and in the future.

From these points alone we are at a critical point in these 'interesting times' and this is where I have nothing but praise for steemit here where we share (and care) for the community of (mostly) like minded souls, each of us a link in the (block) chain, one for all and all for one.

These are solid principles where the middle man, or person if you prefer, is booted out and the fat cats sitting at the top of pyramidal structured hierarchies are also relegated, and demoted. And that means the banksters will have to rethink their FIAT follies, and its likely we are all in for a bit of volatility along the way...so maybe its time to ride the waves...and full steem ahead! And to that I say...Bring it!

The world started an all fiat experiment in the 1970’s in which all fiat money is backed by nothing.

One day we'll look back at that and say; 'They did WHA-???!!!'

I agree with your point and I just hope these new forms of currency have time to take himd before the other system totally collapses.
