Usually my vote is worth around 2 Cents if i up-vote a post. I always went to the Section with new articles and gave writers with little to no-rewards my vote so they would be encouraged to write more.
Today, i went to the Trending Section and after reading one post, i up-voted that post and saw that the post jumped up by 2.94 USD? What happened? Did i turn into a dolphin over night?
So this is weird, i had to vote another post, so i voted this one and to my surprise that went up 5.06 $ !!?!! (+25300% up? if my calculation is correct?)
As i always try to understand things, i read the Steem Whitepaper , and on page 19 i found out that payouts are non-linear! This basically means, that if you up-vote a post which has already accumulated a lot votes and $ your Voting Power will multiply Tenfold or Hundredfold or maybe Thousandfold !!!
So this is great news, we are not that depended on the whales as i thought. Users like me, with only 1000 Steem can push your post significantly. If a whale than steps in, the magic happens and a posts jumps to 5000$ or 10.000 $..
I learn something new on Steem everyday, and i am super excited to understand the system better, please comment if you have any advice or best practices to share !!!
P.S. i just addet a picture with proof in one of the comments, that it really works as i wrote. v1lson pointed out that the post count was not visible, so i voted a random post and you can see the post count !!
The upvote reward here is being captured by the author of the article. You won't get much for it yourself. But it's true, votes add up in a non-linear way so your vote can always help people a lot. So always vote for stuff you like and help shape the site.

I just acquired 1000 steem power and will start using it on new users to see what effect it will have.
do you know what the bracket ( 106.000 ) below steem power is? I used to have that bracket with numbers in it but it just disappeared on me?
It means delegated power. Steem sometimes delegates extra power to people with low power, to help give there vote some more weight! Unfortunately i don't think the delegated power contributes towards your curation reward!

i just gave you a vote, and it jumped 1 cent. normally it would be 2 cent but my voting power is already maxed out !!
exactly, as you have 20.921 Steem Power your vote will only give less than 1 Cent. but if more people vote, that will accumulate and than the 1cent will be given at one point (hope this is correct?)
I am aware that my STEEM POWER is in it's infancy :) Reason why I give up-vote only when I have voting power more then 90%. Now it's 90.1274%
I am not spamming giving up-vote to everything hopping to get rich tomorrow. I want my votes to be accountable.

why to vote? i did not get anything on voting, only for comments. i looked on steemstats.
i am to small maybe for this game.
i think it doesnt matter how much sp you have.
the timing when and which post you vote is important.
if you vote a post which is trending and has already lets say 200 votes and 380$ , than that one will earn you a bit more curation reward than a post with 0 votes and 0$ !

Yea, if you up-vote posts that have already an high payout your vote can bring many extra dollars. But still I for my part try only to up-vote posts that i really really like or posts that are good and relative new. The hole idea is to find new good posts and make them more visible through up-voting them. If others happen to follow your vote, you will get cu-ration rewards for helping good content to be visible and therefore helping steem to evolve.

great posts with already high numbers get my vote. and the rest goes to the NEW section. i balance it out now.
the best advertisement steem could get is a high reward. my first 5000 usd payout brough steem around 30 new users... as i told all my friend about it!

bascially there is a voting time which is optimal etc. its a bit difficult, but i will try to find out more about the system.
you should power up your steem! you are losing everyday, as steem inflates
Right now I am having to gain equity by using the system. I don't have spare capitol. So I try to posts that I value and hopefully they spur attention and discussion. So for me the path to success right now in the social network is to be social. As I can I will invest some capitol but for now everything I post contributes to my steem power. If you have not seen it yet there is a great dashboard that @jesta has been working on. It can give you good information on steemit and may help you find more opportunity in the system. You can find it at steemstats.com.

Could be. You're mentioning the Steemit Whitepaper in your post.
I remember reading it and I think there was there a mention that users should vote on about 20 posts a day to keep their Voting Power effective. Anything beyond that would decrease the quality of their votes. This puts things into perspective onto choosing the right content to vote on.
*I re-red the White paper just now but can't find that paragraph to quote it here...not sure if the document changed since I first read some time ago.
Were you the only one voting or did other votes bump the total up in addition to your vote? Many can hit that button at the same time. Today I voted simultaneously with a whale as a post jumped up 100's of $$$ as the screen refreshed. I just hope I hit the button a sub-second before the whale!

I think this is the wrong display on SteemIt. Can u proof it on Steemd? Than i trust in it. (U can try upvote->un-upvote->upvote->un-upvote, u see that amount always change randomly)

I'm sorry to say but you are WRONG. The system works like this:
HIGH SP your vote on a SMALL post will be worth MUCH
LOW SP your vote on a SMALL post will be worth TINY
HIGH SP your vote on a BIG post will be worth a MASSIVE AMOUNT!
low SP your vote on a BIG post will be worth also a LOT but not massive
Conclusion:
Voting with high sp = high voting power
Voting with low sp= low voting power unless your voting a Already Big Post
That explains why your vote cast on a Big post gave them so "much" money...

So, will your curator reward also be bigger if you voted late on an already popular post with a low SP account than if you voted earlier?
the curator reward wont change that much usually. if you vote before a whale votes, i think the reward will be higher
