Making Empandas at Kat's Corner

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hi Everyone!

I'm Kat and Welcome to my Corner.

This weekend I made Empandas for the very first time. It was so much fun and they were so good we ate them all!

What is an Empanada?

An empanada is a stuffed bread or pastry  dough that can baked or fried.

What you need to get started making Empanadas

Supplies

  • Rolling Pin
  • Cutting Board
  • Deep pan or Pot to Fry in
  • Fork

Ingredients

  • Dough
  • Oil for frying
  • filling of your choice!

Experiment

Making Empanadas are fun and you can put what ever you like inside! I made a few different kinds of filling I will tell you about.

  • Chicken Empanada
  • Breakfast Empanada
  • Pizza Empanada
  • OMG Empanada ;) (to be continued)

Chicken Empanada

I cooked some ground chicken with diced onions, carrots, celery and added some seasoning. Then after filling a bunch of Empanadas I added some BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese to the chicken. I liked that better.

Breakfast Empanada

This was just some scrambled eggs, potatoes and cheese

Pizza Empanada

This was so easy a few pieces of pepperoni, a tiny bit of pizza sauce, and some mozzarella cheese.

Let's Make Empanadas

Step One...

*DANGER* * WARNING* Get some oil heating up! a lot of it! My dad got the oil heated up. I was allowed to do everything but he put empandas in and out of oil for safety. Please be very very very careful my dad said if it spills it makes a big mess, but the worse part people can get badly burned. You want the oil hot. but not too hot or it pops out of pan and can burn food.

Step Two...

Lightly roll out the dough

Step Three...

Add your filling, fold and press down with fork

Step Four...

Gently place in fryer, flip after a few minutes. When golden color take out and put on paper towels to remove extra oil.

Step Five...

Eat and Enjoy!

Have you ever made empandas before? if so what do you like to fill them with? Let me know in the comments below.

Have a great day!

Yummy..I must try it.

those look fantastic and such a great little chef. When I was that young my cooking projects came out all mangled up. I'm assuming she didn't handle the frying part but I'm impressed with her skills. She seems to do a lot of cool projects.

it is so good looking. We make these with sweet fillings or cooked vegetable fillings

Thank you for knowing about something new.
I will try it. Looks delicious.
You can sleep on it (joking ) :)
By the way, great photos!

This is my sooo soo favourite....thanks for sharing

Hello, Kat! I just read your profile and I can't believe you're just 7 years old? WOW! You already seem so professional and put together for your age. :)

It also looks like you make really good empanadas. From where I am, empanadas are a staple snack in every Filipino household. These look reaally yummy.

Keep up the good work, Kat! :) Looking forward to more of your posts

I Like the "Breakfast Empanada" idea the best ♦♦Surely enjoyed your pics here -- they are outstanding (Crisp & clear).

Will Re-steem ♦♦ Good #SAFETY Tip you gave :

"Have the oil hot - but not too hot, or it POPS out of pan"

Mmmm oh my they look Yummy and I love that you made them with your daughter. No I’ve never made empanadas but when I eat them they usually have beef in them. I’m a new Mom to Steemit who also does some cooking on my blog. I would really love to connect with other Mom Steemians. New follower ♥️
