Not to mention all the same people that are constantly being paid big money for every post they put up! When 3\4 Of my blogs earn under 1.00 dollar !?! This platform is becoming rediculous ! This abuse should not be allowed to happen to innocent people !!

you know, i came into this post expecting to largely disagree. And i do. But this is not a terrible point. I still think @smooth and others who are downvoting are doing good for the platform generally (and i think the people getting the DV's are far more often people who are frequent high earners than people like you who rarely make much money on posts.) I don't think it would be a bad idea for the people doing the downvoting (contraty to what you might have heard, they aren't taking orders from me) to look at how often the person in question has had a high payout in the past XXX days or something.
That said, a big part of the solution to the problem "all my posts make under a dollar in a given month" is either to change the reward curve (which i support) or failing that to start downvoting posts that are benefiting from highly superlinear payouts.

I'm sorry that happened to you karen.
Just this morning some of us were arguing with smooth because he did the same thing to another new member. It was the first time since they had ever reached trending in the month that they have been posting. They had written an awesome post that 11 of us resteemed which shows how much the post impacted certain people. It had been at $40 when I last looked, and Smooth shot it down to $20 stating that it was voted up by too many whales.
Smooth doesn't consider how often if ever the person has had a trending post, how new they are to Steemit, and how much other people have shown their true appreciation for a post (by resteeming or lots of comments).
Hopefully we will see you back here again after you have taken a much needed break.

Karen, take it from me, who has been downvoted by whales before: if this is your first time experiencing it, just learn from it. No one likes getting flagged, and I was recently flagged by @transisto. My post had an absurd amount of comments, like over 100. You know what my reaction was? "Meh, whatever". I ignored it, looked at as a learning experience, then moved on.
I realize you are very badly wounded, as most people are the first time they get downvoted. But don't leave the platform because of one flag. You can choose to ignore it and continue to post whatever you want.
No one is immune from flags, that's just how Steemit was designed. That's my tough love for you.
Look at it this way, your post made way more than mine even though the one that @transisto flagged of mine made it to #2 trending page with only an $8 payout. Yours was more successful than mine, so in a way, it's all dependent on what you're comparing yourself with.
I know this won't make you feel any better, but think about it. After I was flagged, I just did nothing, nothing.

I don't quite understand how the payout system works. If there is less pay out per post, does that make the price of Steem go up, or maintain a steady price? This is confusing.
nothing to do with price it just gets distributed to others. 25 go from here to some minnows lets say all posts. Price is based on value and speculation. Meaning What STEEM can do and what people think it can do. That's why 5 months ago people were making 8k payouts, because steem was worth 1.5 usd now those people are mostly gone and the price has dropped because of the lack of hype development and whatever else, fagg wars :) I mean flag :D and disregard for the little guy because everybody is rotating on a circle their 5-10 favorites while good curators are making 1-2 sbd and upvoting for .001 noob posts are making 0.001 :D 0.008 so 0.00 up to maybe a dollar. SO who is screwed? and who are we helping with these yapps. @karenmckersie I like you too but you shouldn't be expecting anything that way you can only gain and won't have disappointments. If you want something tangible make it in the real world. Crypto is another world, it's fluctuating. it's called a "Potential Payout" it's a stock market of people :| realize :) how was the mantra real eyes realize real lies. :)

Hi @karenmckersie I rarely get on Steemit anymore and have been powering down for months because of this very thing. It is ridiculous that @smooth down voted your post. The unfairness in the voting format here was an issue from day one and to tell you the truth Steemit had / has so much potential but various things have pissed so many users off I don't honestly feel that Steemit can recover from it. I stopped posting a couple of months ago and every time I think of posting again I quickly realize it would be a waste of my time so I don't. Good luck to you Karen and damn you @smooth.

Votes are weighted by stake. Stake can be purchased by anyone. How would you like that to change? How would you propose, algorithmically, to distinguish between "voters" and "some jerk with power" (who, technically, is also a voter)?
I can understand that this situation is getting very strange and it's pretty normal that you get upset with this. I didn't get a downvote (yet) but in the last month my best posts don't surpass the $10, I'm not in the radar! Hope you don't leave, but it's up to you to take a break. Hope that rules change very soon...because this kind of "justice" with the downvotes is turning Steemit a real mess. Wow ! Thanks for your awesome and kind reply ! No worries though im not leaving teemit im just going to be posting less often as i used to post 3 or 4 times a day before ! Lol! ( Be sure to dont go over 4 posts per day or your payout will be reduced !!) So untill they make the system and downvoteing better for all i will be cutting back alot on posting !! But will still be commenting , reading , upvoteing and entering contests !! Lol !ππ

Theoretically, I had switched over to the view that downvoting was just part of the overall voting strategy after Dan's post a couple of months ago...
...but seeing it played out in real time, and the effects that it has on contributors is making me question it's validity again.

Whales come and go like the weather. When the sun is shining, the weather is good. When the rain comes up, the weather is bad. We love to talk about but no chat ever will change the weather. I was against this whale flagging behaviour, and then I was edging towards agreeing with, then I saw potential benefit to it, but now I'm against it again.
I'm sure this whale war will be resolved by some sort of solution, or turn into a never ending battle that consumes the world.

Quite awhile back I was one of the early people online to post about a new movie that is out called BANKING ON BITCOIN.
You can search my name and that name together and find it ---- that was one of the scenes from the movie where big names in the Crypto space appeared. If I am not mistaken, that was one of the film maker's friends or his mom, that is the kitchen scene -- in the New York area.

You speak a lot of truth here Karen, all the way thru this post on so many levels.
To DV you for those reasons, as someone (like you said) who invests so much time here like many of us have -- and not get much in the way of payouts, also like you said, is a travesty.
I am not getting DV by anyone.... but top to bottom here, you speak a lot of truths many many say and feel.
You are one of the best people on here, I wish I could not relate to some of what you are feeling.... but I can.
How many times have you hit trending pages or been paid over $30? Not many --- I am still in shock reading this post.

Karen I am sad to see this as I am new to Steemit. Since I introduced myself I have tried to contribute on a daily basis and even bought $50.00 of Steem power. Now I am concerned that bullies are ruining something that should be fun and educational.

I'm just getting caught up on posts and saw this! Never quit, love. It doesn't do anyone any good. Flags suck for sure. It's a shock to the system especially when you put so much time and effort into what you do. I hesitate using the word "deserve" for anyone but our efforts should be worth something simply because our time is precious. Keep steeming on, Karen.

I've only been part time because I was working full time but my job let me go on Friday so I've been taking the day to read and comment. I don't think I will create a blog post more than 2 - 4 times in a 24-hour period because it seems excessive - but that's just me.
I've been advocating a review of flags from the beginning especially since it potentially affects revenue. IMHO, flags should only be used for the most serious offenses: plagiarism, abuse, and SPAM. Everything else is subjective and needs review. To be flagged because someone thinks you made too much on a post is bullshit.

Once the price of steem goes up we all be happy ! Its a long term investment , and made for people to just enjoy blogging and earn steem while your at it , instead of blogging elsewhere for nothing back in return ! I personally think that this system needs to be redesigned, the way posts are payed doesn't seem very fair at all. Not saying I'm undervalued as I've yet to contribute anything worthwhile, but I hate seeing how some people are getting treated on this stuff... I'm so sorry, dear @karenmckersie ! I love your posts and the spirit that you put in everything you write. As you know, I'm relatively new here and I'm reading more post about this "issues", but I don't understand the real reasons that are "back" of the flags. In my ignorance, reading some dialogues between whales and other members (bad tones), it seems a "war whales". Maybe the whales will reach an agreement to solve this issues for the health of the community.

As a newbie, i would deny payment on most of your post though. It seems there is a whale club here, hence we see the price dropping so much.
