I had a go PROMOTING my own post

in #steemit8 years ago

Everyone would have noticed the new promote button at the bottom of there post page, have you thought about pressing it and paying to have your post placed on the promotion page in hope to get a few more reads and followers. I said I wouldn't do it BUT then I wouldn't know what I was talking about and If I gave it a try then I could possibly advise people if they asked.

I decided to promote myself on my last post
https://steemit.com/disabled/@karenb54/living-with-a-disability
I got 13 reads plus quite good interactions and made $0.08 So for me NO it wasn't worth it, I paid $5 to promote it, well I thought if I was going to do it I might as well give it a real go **I definitely will not be doing it again.

MY PROMOTED POST

I went to search for my post on the promoted page, I had to scroll for ages to find my post, it was so far down there was no way members are going to scroll that far to check out a page SO I gather you have to pay quite a bit to get placed at the top, I really didn't stand a chance and wasted my hard earned $5.
I think the Promote button is really focused at the richer members, the ones who have made money and can afford to spend $$$$ without a second thought.

PROMOTING OTHERS

I think the only way we the Minnows are going to benefit from the Promote button is if other members Promote our posts for us.
If you see a post that you think should have more attention would you press the button to Promote them, I know I couldn't afford to Promote others if there not going to get the best positions, Promoting the post for it to land at the bottom is a total waste of money. If you know different please tell me

We need to help each other more and the best way to do that is to read more, try and read a few on your feed and help the members you follow, try and read more new posts.
Stemmit is not just about writing its about reading too and leaving good comments.
THE MORE WHALES WE HAVE THE MORE WE HAVE HELPING THE MINNOWS
LETS HELP EACH OTHER MORE

Hi I am Karen, I am here to write about my life and read about yours.. If you like what you read please upvote and leave me a message so I can come visit youfollow me on Twitter

To be honest, I think the promote function is aimed at advertisers not bloggers. They're trying to lure advertisers who may want a post to be seen, but don't necessarily want to buy steempower to vote it up because of how much steempower you need just to give a few cents.

Its not there to help the Minnows as it would cost a fortune to get anywhere near the top

I posted about INCENTIVE where people could send me 0.001 and nominate any quality post older than a day. This is because that post has passed its first payout.
Simply the money is put together and then given to the lottery winner of a post someone else nominated as a quality post worthy of more recognition.

Just a way people could say, you worked hard on your post and we felt it was good and sorry it did not gain traction, better luck next time but at least we noticed you . . .

Sort of a morale booster : )

/ hugz ; )

Oh yeah, write to a Whale and ask them to please send you five bucks since PROMOTE sucks 4 minnows ! ! !

You tell em Lady . . .

Not waste my hard earned money, same as always the rich get richer grrrrr

Hi Karen - an interesting post. I've not been able to get on Steemit for the past couple of weeks and the promote button wasn't there before. Its useful to have a view from someone who has used it. I'm surprised though that even a $5 promotion you still end up so far down the listings. It reminds me of the priority boarding fees that some budget airlines use They are great if you are amongst a small number of people who've bought them BUT when everybody has paid to be prioritised for early boarding it simply doesn't work. I wonder if we have a similar situation here?

You have a choice how much you want to pay, its totally up to you what you want to pay but my €5 got me nowhere with no return so maybe adding a 0 to it might get you up amongst the leaders. Unless you have a massive following already it really isn't worth it Oh and thank you for reading :)

Well, that explains why my spending 50 cents to promote didn't get me any attention!

Think you're going to have to put a lot more than that Down, Who can afford that?

For this reason, I will not go to the promote page, or vote any any articles there. Thanks for writing about your experience.

Your welcome

Same thing happened to me! I have also noticed that many of the authors who usually trend don't bother to promote theirs. It's not for me, I can't afford it. Will be intetesting to see where it goes.

Its definitely not for us poorer members, A waste of our money

My latest post may clear some things up. There are major problems on this site. Please don't bother upvoting my post btw.

Why? Is the a problem with your latest post... ahhh got you cos you didn't upvote mine

I didn't even notice the promote button and having read your post, don't think I will be trying it, so your $5 helped us as well as teaching you! thanks

I am glad I have helped you and thanks for reading :)

I'm at a loss as to how to get quick attention...which probably means I need to stick with what I know - read, comment, upvote, interact, find a mentor, be a mentor...rinse and repeat. That's the only way we're going to grow and build an audience.

Just stick with your doing as the promote doesnt help us at all

HI Karen. You make some good points here. Yes, communication is a 2 WAY PROCESS. People need to engage with the post, not just type 'agree'. Engagement causes development of posts. Maybe even whales might get interested !! Did you know you get paid twice though? You get paid after 24 hours and also after 30 days, so you might have made only 0.08 cents in the first day, but you could go on to make a few hundred dollars by the 30th day.

That is wishful thinking hun lol I think by then my post will be lost with many others but thank you for giving me hope

Thanks Karen. I won't be using the promote button either.
It does seem a bit like banging one's head against the wall here at times...I have seen lots of great content which simply does not get the attention it deserves, if I had the money I would promote others, but I think it's probably more effective to upvote and follow.

That's what Im sticking too, is hard enough trying to earn on here never mind having to pay then get nothing in return
