So I had an idea the other day. It’s not nearly finished, but bear with me. I was thinking about Steemit and how it rewards people for creating openly shared content, and I started thinking, “What if we could do the same for open source code?”.
So here’s the idea: create a platform like Github, but content is stored on the Steem blockchain. Everything is automatically public, and users are somehow rewarded for publishing useful, clean code.
Here’s where I’m not really sure how to proceed. It seems to me that user’s voting power should be based on the projects that they are doing, so if your code is used in a popular, worthy project you receive more compensation. Maybe users can start “projects”, tag the code bases that they use, and then vote on projects. Rewards would be given to project creators as well as those whose code was used.
Maybe there should be rewards at different stages of the project? For instance I might receive some funds upon proposing an idea for a project and then receive more as the project progressed and new versions were released.
Which brings me to the point of this post. The idea is to gauge interest in an application like this. Upvote the post, comment, or resteem to show interest, and if you have the knowledge and willingness to help comment saying so! If it gets enough interest we may be able to pull together a team to make this into a reality.
Skills Needed
- Business and marketing skills to get the platform started
- Coders to actually write the logic (I program as a hobby, so this is my area)
- Investors in the ICO (assuming we have one)
- Most importantly, users!
