Credit your Images - A Guide for new Users

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

My mission here is to help you learn how to cite your images like a pro

As I was wandering in the steemit wilderness, I saw many articles from various users without included sources of images. Did you know that when we post a picture that isn't ours without image source, we commit plagiarism? Plagiarism can get us flagged and other sorts of bad things.

I will show you step by step how to properly cite this image:

Steemit logo

The default code for this picture is:

![Steemit logo](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)

If you want to link your text to an URL you need to write following:

[text](URL)

In text section, we can write "Image source" or any other words that make sense. In URL you need to put the link of your picture. That link, in this case, will be:

https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg

This is how final form should look:

![Steemit logo](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)
[Image source](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)

Afterwards you can add center command to centre your picture and text

<center>
![Steemit logo](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)
[Image source](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)
</center>

Image source

After that, decrease font of "image source" text by using command sub

<center>
![Steemit logo.jpg](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/2017/03/steem.jpg)
 [Image source](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/2017/03/steem.jpg)
</center>

Did you notice any difference now?

I hope that you will be able to apply this and that it will help you with your future posts, in order to make your article more successful!

Steem on!

Why to correctly cite your images?

You will avoid being flagged for plagiarism

People will respect you more

Your blog will get new more professional outlook.

The end

Hey, wait. Just one more thing. I have a question for you. How did you resize your images? Did you download them, resize them, and upload?
If you answer is YES, I have something that can save you a lot of time. Feel free to check my another article on How To Resize Images

I'm really glad that you find this post useful.

Good that you get rid of that old way of giving credit. Your blog will start to look a lot better from now on.
Wish you a ton of success!

And thank you a lot for a resteem. It is appreciated. :)

You're welcome! I am anxious now to test out this code

@jokster, thanks for writing another informative article! Very helpful, and I like that you keep your tips focused on a narrow bit of information, and don't overwhelmed me with too much. Well illustrated examples, too. I will resteem this, and take a look at your other related articles.

I'm just glad that you like it and that it helped. Come back anytime! :)

@jokster, I have found your articles very engaging and informative. Well worth a look at. Keep up the great work!

This is really a good one. I was wondering how i accredit the owner of the picture that i took online. Nice....

This is fundamental that every beginner should read before posting random internet pictures in his articles.

I'm so happy that I could help.

Yes indeed your post did do a great deal. It is very enlightening.

Great post & tutorial. Very thorough & easy to read. Please make more tutorials! You're good at them.

Thank you very much. I'm happy to contribute. :)

I will probably do some new guides in the near future just to get an idea about what.

I am using my phone to write in steemit. Find it a bit hard sometimes to simply code - if you call it coding anyway - the source of the image. I will either use my own picture, or I'll simplify the source by using bit.ly

The code is great! I still have a question: when clicking on the picture source link, the link opens in the same window, which is a bit annoying, as I need to press the back-button to return to the blog. Is there a way to let the link open-up a new window (tab) on the browser?

@peter2017 and @jokster, If on a computer, try long holding on right-click, and selecting open in a new tab from the drop down menu. On a phone browser, try long pressing on the link, and then select to open link in a new tab, then switch to the new tab. This is for PC and Android Firefox browser behavior. Maybe otherdevices, operating systems and browsers are different. Hope this helps.

Maybe there is, maybe there is not. I'm not into it that too much to know these kinds of things. I'm new in it and knows only basics that I decided to share with you. You gonna need ask that question to someone with more experience. Good luck finding the answer, maybe share it with us too :)

Ok, thank you! I am going to find it out and then will share it with you!

Thank you. I will use this in my future posts. BTW, how do I put this unicode onto the title text there?

@rosatravels, I don't believe that it can be done in the titles. Those are all a standardized format. What exactly were you wanting to do with the titles?

Anyway, I'm glad you find this post useful. :)

I'm sorry but I don't know.

Thankyou

You are welcome :)

Thank you for sharing this.
For someone like me who is somehow not familiar with coding etc. and how to edit the fonts here in steemit this is really helpful.
Really appreciate it.

I'm very glad that you find this article useful. :) Have a great day!

Even if the photo has been edited by you, do you still have to give credit?

I'm new in the game and that's what I was looking for! Cheers!

Nice and helpful. Thanks!
