I used to be a pretty addicted gambler.
I have probably gambled away around $5k online, in cryptocurrency casinos alone. Gambling wasn't even fun for me anymore. I was blatantly wasting all the money I earn, my rent and my expenses on gambling and chasing my losses.
Gambling was a disease to me... It was contagious. The more I got in touch with other gamblers, the more I wanted to gamble.
I was spending up to 14 hours a day on online casinos, simply chatting and claiming the faucet. Chatting and claiming the faucet. Chatting, claiming the faucet and depositing. Chatting, claiming the faucet, depositing, and losing.
It never appeared to me that gambling will never earn me anything, other than a negative sum.
Then, one of my friends on an online gambling site told me about Steemit.
And after a few days research... I decided for myself that I'm going to be part of this amazing community.
Sure, I am addicted to Steemit, I can say that. Sure, I am on Steemit at least 8 hours a day, making this basically a day job. But, at least I'm getting something out of it.
I enjoy reading others content, as well as getting paid for my own content.
This is what Steemit so unique, so powerful. Decentralization of the media, as well as author rewards and curation rewards for contributors.
I realised something over my stay at Steemit. Something very, very important.
NOTHING COMES FROM NOTHING.
Nothing comes with no dedication. No work, no risk. Gambling is addicting because it offers an alternative to good hard work. Drugs are addicting because they offer an alternative to reality.
If you want to get rich, don't resort to gambling. Don't go reading others' winning stories. The only way to get rich is to DEDICATE yourself to something.
Gambling is addicting. But it is not impossible to quit. I am an example of the more successful ones. Most gambling degenerates never stop chasing their losses, and falling deeper into the abyss.
Find a distraction in life. Like Steemit. Find work for yourself. Build a worthwhile project. Invest yourself into something.
Anything that is not gambling.
Steemit has also allowed me to recoup part of my losses, and move onto the next stage in my life. Blogging is now not only a good hobby of mine, I'm also taking it up as a part time job.
My goal is to recoup all my gambling losses through Steemit, by the end of next month.
If you are reading this post, and you are an addicted gambler, then take action. Take action now, before it's too late. There is hope, thanks to Steemit.
Ahh, but all the vices we have :) Steemit, hopefully, is a good gamble for all of us. It certainly has returned way more for me than my shoddy blackhand and slot machine games of the past, little interest as they held for me and my bad luck :D Educated financial guesses are more my personal thing, but I'm very happy you shared something personal brah.
Cheers, and gratz on the best post I've seen in a while. You deserve a good audience, who can see what it takes to make a quality post!
Thanks a lot. Even though Steemit might be a gamble for some, in my opinion the +ve outweighs the -ve on Steemit. Everything has risks. Even if you are just walking on the streets, you have a chance of getting hit by a car(quoted from @laonie).
I'm earning Steem through author and curation rewards. All I've put in is my hard work and dedication. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Nothing to lose other than your precious time and electricity :). But im sure Steem will make your EV positive haha.
It has been great to hear that you have got some of your losses back from steemit. I unfortunately am not as self controllable and haven't stopped gambling.
Man, you still have a chance. There is hope through Steemit.
I'm glad you're not a gambler anymore, and hope you can recover your losses. I lost 4K USD but if I can recover that, that would be dope!
There is hope for you.
But Steemit addiction give some money, but eat much time.
Not really. At least it's fun, and you don't lose money.
