Would starting out on Steemit be easier after watching a new video course using a free coupon? Will our new Steemians be more motivated to invest in Steem Power and write high quality posts from the beginning if we give them a complete series of new tutorial videos all in one place for free to show them how?
My guess is yes which is why I am beginning to film a new video course named "Earn Steem with Steemit" which I hope will be a helpful resource for getting a strong start on Steemit! Before making this course, I used Google to learn that one other Steem course already exists which was created in 2016, requires payment to view, and currently has about 40 students. My vision is to create a new course that anyone can take for free using this coupon link https://u.jerrybanfield.com/courses/steem17?coupon=steem as well as other coupons I will make available on my website and YouTube.
To promote the course, I will put about half of the videos up for free on YouTube and Facebook where I will offer free coupons to take the full course. I also will probably make one complete tutorial and advertise that along with a free coupon to take the full course. On my website, I will include the new course on my free coupons page which I send thousands of people to every month at https://jerrybanfield.com/freecourses/ once it is finished.
With just launching the course today June 9, 2017 I currently just have about 4 videos in it as well as a text notice in the beginning that I am just getting started with filming. Within the next several weeks, I hope to have a complete course with 20 to 50 videos explaining what I think is most important to learn starting out with Steem along with links to the resources I found most helpful in learning by reading existing Steemit posts.
The goal of the course will be to take a new Steemit user on a journey from signup through learning the basics of Steemit, investing in Steem Power, and finishing with an exact formula to create posts that will add the most value to our website. The more valuable posts our newbies like me create, the greater opportunity we all have to increase the price of Steem and grow our community with new daily users.
Why take the time to film a video course when we already have a LOT of great guides and resources posted? Let me tell you the story of how I started learning music because I think it will help show the benefits of giving new users the option to learn with video classes.
In 2016 I had this strange feeling like the universe wanted me to learn music which motivated me to order a Yamaha electronic keyboard on Amazon despite knowing nothing about music and having hated most anything to do with composing songs since sixth grade music class where I gave the teacher the finger after she said something that made me angry. One night when my wife and daughter were out of town, I sat down and played the electronic keyboard for the first time for hours and just loved it. I went to bed with what felt like an awesome 100% organic high.
December 24, 2016 found me playing my last game of League of Legends ending in feeling like I was just totally wasting time. As I talked to my mother on the phone that night, I realized I wanted to see what my life was like without video games for the first time since six years old when I got my first Gameboy. The next day I realized without video games I now had time to learn and play music.
The problem was that without knowing anything about music, where would I even begin? I was so clueless it took me days of Googling to figure out that I needed a "Digital Audio Workstation" to compose music on my computer. After buying FL Studio 12 at the recommendation of viewers on YouTube, I realized that I had no idea what to do with it. While I learn a lot just by Googling and reading, clearly becoming proficient at making music was going to require a different approach because I needed to be able to hear music being played and see how that related to making it happen on my PC.
Video courses have been extremely helpful for me in learning music because they bring video and sound into the learning process both of which are absent just reading blog posts and guides online. I also have a client named Tomas George at http://tomasgeorge.com who is music producer and sound engineer. His guidance and inspiration have kept me motivated to keep learning music even when it seemed pointless in the middle of thoughts like "I am so bad why even bother" and "This is so complicated there is no point in trying" and "I am so clueless I do not even know what I do not know or should learn."
Talking to Tomas on Skype helped me discover Deadmau5's masterclass which I made a free summary of at http://u.jerrybanfield.com/courses/deadmau5?coupon=steem. To summarize my summary, Deadmau5 basically said he played around a lot with music in his bedroom until he found sounds he loved and he copied a lot from the format other artists used to make his songs.
After watching 10+ hours of video classes, a few more hours of video tutorials on YouTube, and spending now maybe a hundred hours using FL Studio 12, I have been able to make 19 songs which are available today on Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/jbanfield. Given I was 100% clueless and unmotivated to make music six months ago, this seems like a miracle today! Am I a great artist or musician after a few months of watching video courses and trying to play music? Absolutely not! Have I already made songs I love listening to and have got stuck in my head? Yes. Does it make my want to cry in joy when my almost two year old daughter asks me to play one of my songs for her and dance to it? You bet!
The point is that while many of us can simply learn new skills by reading guides and Googling, others of us need video classes to give us the confidence to even begin the process of trying something new AND to stick with it when things get difficult.
How much will we benefit if just a small percent of new Steemit users take the video class free and get the same results I have got out of the video classes I watched for learning music? Would you appreciate more Google search traffic coming in to Steemit from posts by new users that rank high? I know I would! With how hard we work to get our friends and family to sign up for Steemit, how much would it help us to make sure that we do not let all these new Steemit users fall through the cracks into the abyss which is trying to make the first successful posts?
Would you help me make this course by upvoting this post because I think this will help more new users enroll free?
Thank you very much for reading to the bottom or scrolling down to view the comments! If you would like to take the course for free, would you visit https://u.jerrybanfield.com/courses/steem17?coupon=steem and suggest any videos here in the comments you would like to see me add?
Love,
Jerry Banfield
Yeh nice one Jerry I think it needs to be done, I like video tutorials and something like this would have been great at the start. And it would make it easier to explain to friends when I can reference them a vid which they can watch over again!
Glad to see you found a route into music, I still haven't started sharing my songs but they will be on their way soon! 😎
Luv
Jerry, thanks for the explanation, what would we do without you :)
As always, a great asset to the Steemit community!
Thank you Jerry.
STEEM ON!
I found you on YouTube whilst researching Dash, and have now found you on Steemit after getting my profile up and running last night. Looking forward to the wisdom you'll be able to impart! Thanks, Jerry!
@savetheanimals welcome to Steemit thank you very much for explaining where you found me because it helps me understand what might be best to do next!
Came for the crypto, stayed for the rants :)
@cntcnt How many courses do you have in your "University of Jerry Banfield?"....I'm really interested in purchasing the lifetime package?
Jerry plz explain how can we increase the value of our account and withdraw that amount..
fantastic !!! will help lot of people like me get better in this !! lol
It would be wonderful can not see that any newbie like me would not love it
Steemit needs more driven, energetic promoters like you! Marketing is huge for the future of steemit, but also important is to give them guidance on how to use it once they arrive. Go get-em @jerrybanfield.
I do believe the 2016 course you found was created by @michaelx.
The one I found was by @marketingmonk
OK. I remember seeing his coure when he was beta testing it. Here is one you can still see for free:
Thanks, the video was really helpful, following all the way
Love the idea! I think your video course will teach new steemit users what they need to hit the ground running. Especially with the large influx of new members (me included lol)
Shoot, I may need to take your video course myself. I invested a decent amount of money into the platform, but I'm still very, very new here. And you've got a great way of explaining things. Learning the ins and out of this platform is probably the best thing many of us noobs could do right now. Especially if we are dedicated to sticking around for awhile, gaining followers, attempting to create awesome content, and being good curators.
For the future success of steemit we need to have a community that will reward epic content!
Best,
Isaac
Incredible idea Jerry! I've learned so much from you! You are an incredible asset to the Steemit community! Steem On! :)
@jerrybanfield
Hey jerry, you took the word out of my mouth. I was thinking about emailing you on this subject.
And, yes we would love for you to make a video on steemit and how to be better at it, Frankly i invested myslef in stemit because you got me hyped on it.
Now, i know the true value of steemit. I just wish i had bought more when it was like $1.
Thanks again, You are always on top of things.
We steemit community really appreciate your hard work.!!
Thanks! This will help me manage my account smarter, and will also help me help others to join.
Following you now, I think what your doing is absolutely amazing. Congrats on all the great work you are doing and Steem on!
Jerry what's up I was listing to your cough cough beautiful music today live. Steam is taking off an I wish I would have listened to you sooner!
Since you're in STEEMIT number of users is exploding and STEEM value more than doubled. NOOOT saying that was you, but I am definitely here, because of you. And similar excited and crazy like you I invested what I had (without being able to sell a master node). So, going quite well, thank you for your excitement which motivated me as well! Continue what you're doing, it's definitely working.
"which motivated me to order a Yamaha electronic keyboard on Amazon despite knowing nothing about music"
Wow, I did this exact same thing almost at this exact same time. I discovered the site for Synthesia where they suggest the Yamaha-EZ220 on Amazon.
I can't say enough good things about this program. It has helped me to learn at a far faster pace than I ever thought possible. The TLDR version is it's a very customizable Guitar Hero for keyboard, which can be set to wait on each note until you hit it, which is an enormously valuable tool for new users. You can key any instrument to the piano, so you aren't restricted to using piano-based music (for example, I keyed up the electric guitar in "Smooth" by Santana to the keyboard), and you do not need to be able to read music.
They also refunded my money when I had a complaint (before I crawled back and repurchased.)
Check it out here: https://www.synthesiagame.com/
I have no affiliation with Synthesia, but I am planning to post some beginner videos for learning the piano with it on a $0 budget.
You are doing exceptional job by educating non crypto users about Steemit.... we must all applaud for your amazing and dedicated efforts.
I was actually looking for something like this. Thanks
You got my vote Jerry. I love this idea.
Great post, thanks for sharing!!
You deserve a:
As always great stuff from Jerry "Make Steemit great" Banfield! :)
I think short form video tutorials that take a new, interested user through the process of using Steemit is an excellent idea! Signing up, posting their first blog post, following people, investing in steem power, etc.
Keep them short and concise, maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute long and you have yourself a good format for teaching new people how to quickly engage with the platform. I'd do this myself if I had the time!
Thanks Jerry! You rock!
Go STEEM !
@JerryBanfield Was the Free coupon just for the steem community?
Yes the coupon codes with steem are all just for steemit!
COOOOOOL :)
Win -- Win situation for everyone =D awesome jerry !
Total newbie here!!!!! Just signed up. This exciting to see people like you hold a torch high so the newbies can see the way. I really appreciate all the content that you've created being that not too long ago I had no idea of steem at all!! Coming from a newbie ....step-by-step tutorials on how to get started ,and how to breakthrough those barriers you speak about, is exactly what A newbie like me needs to watch and hear. So step-by-step tutorials on how to get started is exactly what I'm looking for. Because even though I am a newbie I hope and strive to create as much value as possible. Even if at first it is just by reading content and responding !' But as I take this journey with you and the rest of the steem community I am most excited about learning . So thank you and I look forward to visiting your website to see what special surprises and value it offers thank you @Ryan313
Love your energy! Just sign up for the your course....Thank you so much. Great work :)
Love these articles from you
Great post Jerry! Keep up these good explanations👍🙂
Thank you Jerry - ENROLLED!
I discovered you through my research into cryptos and your teachings resonated with me. When I saw your video about your investment in Steemit, I realized I needed to look into it, and I've just joined directly because of you.
I'm a writer/artist/techie who's looking for an audience and I really hope I've found it here. Time will tell as I post more, but I would definitely say things look promising so far!
Keep up the great work - I'm starting the course right now!
Best,
Bob
There is absolutely a contingency of people that learn best via videos. I also believe the more recent a video is made has an impact on whether people choose to watch it or not. I look forward to seeing what you cover in these videos.
Great posts 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hi @jerrybanfield , great idea! I've been following you around for a while now, I think you are definitely able to do this!
Maybe a good tip you could use: @welcomebot has been created to greet new #Steemit users with various links how to start off successfully with Steemit. You could do this as well with the link that you would produce.
Wishing you all the best, keep up the good work! Kind regards, @steve-speaks
The more seemit is promoted, the more the user base grows, the better for all of us it is. I do like this idea a lot.
nice thank you !
I help you please help me
Hey! Got sucked into watching you on YouTube a few weeks ago and have been keeping up with your (mis)adventures since. Overall it's clear you are a great promoter and an honest guy, although sometimes I do think your mind changes very quickly on certain topics, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it "SCUMMY!" :D. Anyway, I upvoted with as much %% as possible... Would love a follow from u...
Thank you Jerry, I will enroll. Your posts always seem to motivate me. Great stuff.
All your articles are excellent, thank your for the investment in the network.
After watching your steem videos I decided to put some money and after 2 weeks it went up more than 100%. Thank you Jerry! :-D
Hey Jerry , great initiative. One question though, how do these courses work? I am a bit concerned with the time difference.
The courses are all prerecorded meaning you can watch the videos on demand!
Thanks for the reply, in that case I'm onboard. I could use some Steemit tutoring :-)
Yes please! All of the guides and content are 6 months old. Let's get some up to date 2017 content! Please let me know if I can help in any way, either in writing scripts for these videos, or just someone to chat with about how we can explain the space more clearly and accessibly! Great work!
Well-written guides are certainly helpful, but a video series taking us through the process of using Steemit would make a world of difference to us Minnows (love being called that :)). It's been three days since I made my entry, but I'm yet to make an introductory post, because I read a post that said ... it's important to comment and follow prior to introducing ourselves. This is the kind of confusion I'm sure most people have. Thanks a ton for taking the time to do this for us, that too for free. Will upvote, follow.. and of course check out the videos.
Thank you Maestro. Signed up for the amzing free course.
Thanks for sharing Jerry
Great Idea !! fantastic!! Joined last month only and learning so many things:))
Thanks !!
