Post Spamming - Good, Bad, or Encouragement?

Post Spamming - The Debate:

There have been many statistics published about Steemit and some are negative and they do not come from Steemians at least Steemians still posting or curating on Steemit.

One article I read asked if Steemit was a scam. In this article, the author talked about Steemian drop out rate and that only 1 in 10 Steemians survive.

Good - Curation Comments

The way to encourage Steemians to continue to post, to be encouraged to post, and like to post is if people encourage each other. You might be an author with 18,000 followers and every time you post you get a whole boatload of upvotes and great pay.

But, you have to remember those who did not buy in with whale status, like myself and decided to try Steem until I just loved it.

A lot of posters start out and no one ever comments on their posts. There is no encouragement. They might get little or no votes and they cannot even curate for a reward until they have 300 Steempower, unless that has changed in my absence.

So, if they want to make it in Steemit, they have to fight their way up and it is hard getting recognized. Don't get me wrong.

There are a lot of Steemians who help minnows out tremendously. There are curation guilds just for minnows. There are bots just for minnows that vote and every so often, a veteran Steemian mentors minnows and that is great. That is the way it should be.

The question then becomes, should we really stop post spamming and even complain about it as long as they don't flag?

If people are complimenting your work, what exactly is wrong with that? You could go mainstream, which Steemit is in many areas and never really hear anyone tell you that what you are doing was worth doing. Some folks in the media make a living off making people really mad or upset, adopting a contrary professional character like an evil big time wrestler.

Bad Post Spamming

The only reason that people complain about too many comments on their posts is because the curation reward comes out of the total received for the post. Does it still do that?

I have heard that it does and suspect it still does but when someone is just starting out curating and posting - they are not Siskel and Ebert, they are not Rotten Tomatoes, and they are not skilled enough to make the movie classic, 'The Sound of Music, or Cleopatra, or the Harry Potter.

Maybe they are and maybe they are that good of a poster but while they are unknown on Steemit, they have to build up their followers just like anyone else. They have to get people to vote for their posts. It will take awhile

Encouragement

The Rolling Stones, J.K. Rowling, Hillary Clinton, Laura Ingraham could come on Steemit, start posting or anyone else that was big, great, awesome in their ability and with no encouragement and a small unbelieving following - FLOP!

Imagine the the minnow, or in this case the egg sac is still attached and they receive nothing, everything they do including curation comes under attack.

A Guide to When not to Leave a Comment

If there are already 432 curation replies of "Great Post" or some such similar reply, if you can even load the post to leave the comment, you are probably doing fairly well.

If you are new and and about to leave the exact same comment as someone else, it might be better to upvote the comment that says the same thing.

Then again, some of us would really love it if we could copy and paste your comments into the first few pages of a published book! And all the comments were supportive of the work.

Conclusion:

It is hard to say what the right thing to do is but always keep in mind that if someone completely quits because they are frustrated, the wrong thing has been done to a fellow Steemian. When Steemians destroy each other, that does not help Steemit or Steemians at all.

Please leave your comments / curations on this topic.

An excellent example of what not to do, leave a link to your post in someone else's post. If you want to promote your post go to steemit chat, leave your links on your other social media sites. Write for other publications and leave links there

What is the Steemit ettiquete for sending a memo to a whale or someone with decent voting power with a url of your post that you think is good and you want them to check it out. Is it appropriate and if so how much SBD to send?

Thanks for the upvote and follow. Did the same back.

You did a great job, it's not easy to be successful at steemit, to break through and to do everything right. But I believe in persistence and proper work, step by step. @jeff-kubitz

That is a good belief here @dobartim and it is what is required and you do it well in your posts
