[Case Study] The Results are in: There is No Rhyme or Reason To Success on Steemit

The results are formally in my friends. I’ve sat down and done the hard yards to demonstrate there is no rhyme or reason to success on Steemit as we stand.

I put my account up as a Case Study for you all to take a look, I’ve produced ALOT of content. Basically content for 3 days solid all of varying degrees of style/topics and ultimately success.

I did this to see for myself if there was any key to having a successful post and I am now under the opinion there is no reason to believe there is any GOOD reason why generating quality content is worth your while.

Now…here me out on this.

I want to be very clear. I’m going to continue contributing content to the site as I am ultimately a believer of sticking with things and seeing the end goal of this platform - I do believe it is game changing.  We cannot expect a new piece of technology to tick all the boxes. This is a gigantic leap of what we already know.

I’m going to break down some of my posts for you and that way you can make your own mind up.  I welcome feedback and any disagreements with my breakdown :) I believe not enough people speak up on this so, I'm happy to do so!

1. My Most Successful Post - To Read Click Here

I noticed a trend early on that personal and travel stories were getting a good amount of attention (I have some incredible travel stories and so I should after almost a decade on the road) so I went ahead and shared one…The result…it has been my most successful post.

But that is not a winning formula.

I followed up with another equally fascinating post and I did not receive any where near the success of the first. Even though the comments and feedback was great. It just didn’t land.

2. Helpful posts like this one -  Click Here To Read

Yesterday I wanted to share my experience to be helpful to the community and those writing. This was to a great, excellent and incredible response. Look at the comments and amount of likes. But this doesn’t mean much at all…

There are posts with less comments/less likes with a much greater return on investment.

3. Targeting Viral Topics - Click Here To Read

I decided to employ some kind of strategy to my posting. So, I went after viral type headlines that have been previously successful in the online world. I modified them slightly but still with the same effect.

The result….very little success.

4. Getting Deep - Click Here To Read

I decided to do some serious posts, posts that are actually meaty, thought provoking. Posts that I consider more of what needs to be discussed online and things that ultimately improve peoples knowledge, ideas and challenges us.

Again…this is not a winning formula.

5. Audience Participation - Click Here To Read

Power of the people right? So why not call on the people to participate in something to help grow the community. Surely that has to work right?

As you can see...not so much.. So, what is the winning formula.

Here it is:

You can declare yourself a Youtube Sensation and a Chef…. as per the lovely post below (seems like a wonderful lady)

Or you can wear a bikini with the whales….(Braver than most)

Or you can spread some joy posting hate mail from Phil Collins! (Who doesn’t love Phil)

On a serious note - massive kudos to the three who wrote the above posts - @neilstrauss @allasyummyfood @metrox - I'd absolutely love to hear your feedback and thoughts on this post :)

Regardless this community works on providing value and you are rewarded by the value you bring into people's lives. But, I think we can all agree that there are many posts that go missing in Steemland that go unseen and are unfortunately lost to the cascading waterfall of content.

This is understandably frustrating for people out there who are getting disheartened by the platform.

Know there is no RHYME OR REASON to making a successful post and don’t bang your head against the wall if you are writing and not getting results.  Stick around…see what happens and how it evolves. I know I will be.

I almost forgot! My conclusion....

The only thing I can put it down to is TIMING.

If a so called “Steem Whale” out there flapping its flippers about and does their click end up on your post?
If so, congratulations go have a holiday in Hawaii :)

That’s all folks!  Hope you have enjoyed the read and would love your thoughts. Please prove me wrong :) Show me the way!

I think whats steemit whales want the most is the originality of our content, almost all trending topic is an original content basically from thats user real experience.

That wasn't exactly 'hatemail to Phil Collins', but from Phil Collins.

updated typo :) mad man typing here!

I made a little cash on my 1st post and have been collecting pennies but that is the beauty of this platform. As more and different people become whales we will see different content float to the top of the payout. ILOVE STEEMIT!😍

Thanks for your feedback - very interesting!

I think $1200+ is plenty for the work you've done.

You sound greedy.

@justbc - my post isn't about greed or have anything to do with me. it is about experimenting with the platform and seeing what works and what doesn't. :) thank you for sharing.

it has everything to do with you. go back and read your own writing.

As if you haven't been paid handsomely already?

@justbc you have a strange way of interpreting. That paragraph before and after explains why I am writing the article and trying to work out what works and what doesn't. I enjoyed your banter. Best of luck @justbc
