Has anyone else experienced glitches on the SteemIt platform today?? My comments disappeared :(
What Happened?!?
I recently shared a post that generated a lot of comments. I have diligently (ok, ok, spastically) been replying to the comments. Once I submit a comment, I can see it published . . . BUT, earlier today, when I went back, I saw that a couple of my comments had disappeared.
Troubleshooting
I tried to find a current SteemIt post addressing this issue, but came up empty (or I completely missed it due to all the 'freaking out'). My comments didn't show in my activity on Steemd.com, either.
I have since re-commented, to replace the ones that went missing, but it's disheartening.
Were there lots of comments? If so perhaps you were viewing by trending? A comment shouldn't be able to disappear because it's immutable.
Thanks for your comment, @anarcotech. When I added my replies to comments, I pulled up the post itself. Not sure how to 'view by trending'. I agree, a comment shouldn't disappear :(
I had one post disappear on me in my first month on steemit. Never figured out why. I guess it just happens from time to time.
Yes, from what I understand (now) is there can be a disconnect between what we enter on the SteemIt interface to what is 'transacted' on the blockchain, through the Witnesses.
'Can someone from tech support help?' :P
No... but seriously, to any witnesses/devs out there, is there a forum for raising/discussing bugs / development issues?
This one sounds a bit worrying.
I hope so, @xaerol. Not sure what happened. Maybe instead of looking for a SteemIt article on missing comments, I should be looking for an article on the proper way to report an issue.
Cool. If you find out...i'd be interested to know! ;D
Heya, . . looks like @neander-squirrel found the reason (not how to report the problems, because its the SAME problem every time): https://steemit.com/steemit/@dragosroua/help-my-steemit-post-comment-disappeared-and-what-this-has-to-do-with-witnesses
Thanks for pointing me to that post. Brilliant. Cheers :)
Oh no @jannell! That certainly is disheartening. Completely agree with @xaero1. It's more concerning that we even have to ask if there is a forum!
Hi @jannell,
Many people having issues like that, even myself at once. Blogposts, comments are seems like there but than they disappear.
As much as I understand, the problem is that sometimes the witness who receives the transactions can not include all of them into the block he creates. And those remaining transactions never make it to the blockchain because the next block will be assembled by another witness.
The developers are aware and already working on the problem.
I don't know any Steemit post addressing this topic but for more info, check out on Github: New blogpost never made it to the blockchain #1532
UPDATE: I've just found this post by @dragosroua who explains what's happening:)
Awesome! Thank you, @neander-squirrel . . . the recent post by @dragosroua helped me understand the situation a lot better. @creatr shared the same link as well - good to have two people recommend the same helpful article :)
Going forward, I'm going to use a separate editor to draft my posts (so I don't lose them forever if something goes wrong). AND, I'm going to keep the article, where I've added a comment, up until I see it listed in my activity feed on Steemd.com (since that pulls the data from the blockchain itself). Also, I will pay closer attention to the missed blocks on the Witness data (and adjust my votes if needed).
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
You're welcome @jannel!
I'm glad I could help!
If you were "spastically" replying were you going faster than 1 every 20 seconds?
From the faq
"How often can I comment?
There is a 20 second wait time in between comments to limit spam."
I'd think there would be an error message saying to wait before posting again, but maybe that's were the bug is coming from.
Maybe that had some indirect affect??, . . . I did see that error a few times. BUT, in those instances, my comment didn't publish in a way I could see it right after (if that makes sense). I appreciate your comment, though.
That happened to me as well. My comments sometimes simply vanish... and I've heard some people even report their whole posts dissapearing so that's
OH NO! Really?? . . . aw, man. That sucks. I wonder what causes these types of problems? I would certainly do the tricks, secret handshake, or whatever it took to make sure posts and comments show up! Thanks for mentioning this (at least I know I'm not going crazy . . . or, crazier)
Haha when I finish a post I always copy everything so if it vanished I wouldn't lose all the work :D
I made a post that disappeared. It was visible though on the esteem app and on the website itself on my PC. I refreshed and it was gone.
I managed to find it in the steem blockchain with my username and the permlink. Its created date and most details were stuck at the default so I'm guessing it was somehow saved wrong or something happened when posts are first inserted.
That's odd that it was on the blockchain, but not SteemIt! All sorts of weirdness. Thanks for your comment, @desu!
That problem happens to me often dear friend @jannell, so much that I take it as nomal, another thing that has happened to me twice, uploaded the post, see my work published, new jobs, when I went to my blog my work disappeared, A few days ago it happened to me the second time.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
Thank you for sharing YOUR experience. I think it's helpful to know that others have the same difficulties. . . . at least it is for me ;)
I was going to say there is all sorts of things going sideways these days, but obviously you've heard from many more people who can describe much better about all of the difficulties than 'wonky directionality' as the cause...so I will just say hello. "Hello".
'wonky directionality' fits the situation, too! Thanks for the comment, @ddschteinn :)
After I wrote this post, I discovered that a few SBD transfers I initiated never went through - don't show up in Steemd.com at all. It's frustrating, but I guess it's all part of the process.
