RE: Ready to Power Up or Cash Out? Part 1: Your July 4 Guide to STEEM Power, BitShares Assets, and OpenLedger

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

And the fact that this article is as long as it is, underscores the greatest issue to mass acceptance. I've been pretty involved in crypto for 3 years now and STEEM, STEEM POWER, and STEEM DOLLARS all make up the most confusing mix I've seen in a while. I honestly consider this to be a massive design mistake. Quit trying to use the name STEEM for everything and use more semantic names. :/

Your comment is right on target, as far as I am concerned. I certainly wish @infovore and I had not needed to spend as long as we did on this article. This kind of article is grunt work. As far as money goes, I could have written something faster and more fun that probably would have been upvoted. This is about getting the information out there. And I think there is no more important work for the Steemit folks than partnering/creating some off-ramps for people. I want them "click, click, click" simple enough that your grandma can use them. As far as the currency names, I guess it's about branding. They confused and bothered me for a while, too, but maybe you'll get used to it as I have.

Yea, I CAN learn it, but it shouldn't take this much time. I still don't fully comprehend it. And that's a serious problem. I really am in a very small minority of the population that's very well informed on crypto, tech, fintech, payments, etc. If I have any struggles, at all, there are big problems.

Basically there is just one cryptocurrency: Steem. Steem Power and Steem dollar are just financial derivatives that can be changed back to Steem, although SP has also voting power.

From a financial point, SP is for those who want to protect their investment from (Steem) inflation and SD is for those who want to have price stable cryptocurrency against fiat currency (USD in this case).

Dollars and Power. That's all there really is.

So what trades on other exchanges like Bittrex?

Reddit has - 1. Reddit Karma 2. Reddit Gold. Karma and Gold.

Steemit has - 1. Steem Power. 2. Steem Dollars. Power and Dollars. We can begin to stop using "Steem" for everything.
