This evening we spend together with a little crazy scientist, and we were discussing one awful question...
How long it will last? Today in the very morning I received an "awesome" comment under my post with begging for follow and upvote. OK, sometimes I check out, may be it's really awesome content there, and the person just tries to be noticed among every day growing amount of stemit users. But how rare this happens...
When I went to the blog of that user I saw posts with copy-pasted videos from youtube. No credits to the channel, no personal thoughts about them, just nothing. Well, so, the person was trying to receive credit for other people work. Then I went to his "comments" tab - and guess what? The same comment over and over again.
It seems to me like steemit really needs some kind of filter already. This becomes epidemic - I already feel like I have to wade through the swamp of low value comments to see messages from really conscientious users and my friends. It really upsets.
I know I have nothing to do about it. When I complained last time @noisy and @steevc adviced me to flag. Well, today I already began flagging. And muting. Not exactly what I wish to do, but what are the options?
Why am I writing this again? It's just a notification. Send me one more "follow me" message - and I'll flag and mute instead of upvoting.
It really upsets me. I remember steemit being other place, with no such comments. But situation gets worse everyday, may be it would be great to add such comments to steem cleaners or something? Just thinking aloud.
Despite this everything I still hope you had a great day. And I hope that spam filter will sooner or later be with us!:)
Having been on this platform for a whopping 4 days has been a roller coaster of a ride. I have seen a large number of posts similar to this one on my feed within the last 48 hours (I know, I am an old timer...lmfaosrag). So I would like to apologize for the misuse and ignorance that seems to be running rampant as of late. Not that I have committed any of those tactics but in the hopes of bridging the gap and restoring peace and harmony between the classes.
I am starting to understand the nuances of Steemit or at least I think I am. The use of flagging seems to be the only recourse of action when the practice of proper etiquette is not used. Other than the chat rooms that are associated, there really doesn't seem to be a way to communicate with each other directly/privately. I was of the school where you praised publicly and punished privately. Here they don't seem to have that luxury yet.
I was excited after my Introduce Myself post. The comments I received were warm and welcoming. The outpouring of support and guidance was amazing. That is reason I am apologizing to you. I don't want to see the actions of a few upset the community elders. I feel this would cause a huge disconnect, because without the trailblazers such as yourself, the minnows would be lost at sea without your continued support and guidance. I understand your frustration and annoyance and I wish I could flip a switch and have an immediate correction.
On the flip side, I want to thank you for your flagging. The person whom you flagged was on my post and on your radar. So by proxy, he got you to my post. Now, I am not sure if you've read any of my posts or not, but that person got you to my blog none the less. Thanks for stopping by, I just wish it was under better circumstances.
As a united community, maybe we can come together and share our thoughts and beliefs in a manner where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. That there are commandments that are followed and adhered to and if they are not then let the punishment fit the crime. I don't have the answers, I just know I like it here...I like the people...I want to see this grow into the Utopia I believe it to be.
Well, yes, the only good they do - leading to other bloggers pages. But sadly it's the only good thing about them.
Steem on, I hope one day we'll manage with all this troubles steemit currently has
Growing pains!?! As you mentioned, situations such as this allowed for an opportunity for us to cross each others path, which may not have happened otherwise. So I am happy for his misfortune (evil laugh).
As this community grows, we can take solace in knowing that this is organic. That with any infection, if the immune system is in place and healthy, then it will fight off any and all attacks. Growing and thriving better than ever. So here is a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a hot cup of chamomile tea.
Let's hope that you're right. And it will just make steemit stronger as a result.
Well according to my ex-wife, I thought I was never wrong (hahaha). Yup, it is my hallucination that the foundations are already in place. It just requires education. For those rebels who opt not to adhere to the laws of nature, well Darwin expressed it as survival of the fittest and those minnows will actually shrink to be krill and we all know what happens to krill.
I share same thoughts... Maybe they will 'Hear' our thinking and install some filters or something. Tschuß!
Let's hope so. It's the second time I write a post like this, but it just drives me crazy!:(
as long as it takes, good post. I follow you. QUALITY!!
Thanks:)
Perhaps it is because of the decentralized nature of things here... the system won't censor, but the users (and the bots) sure can with the power of mute/flag. Unfortunately the 'flag' option can be abused as well. Time will tell how it all plays out. For now, I'll just fly below the radar... no need for high profile anything, just to grow with the base we have started.
We'll see how it goes. But now it's really a spam epidemy
I'm quite agree with you. I am onSteemut less than a month, but these endless empty posts and requests are already fed up
I hope it'll change. I'm not that naive to think that people will suddenly understand that it's not a fucking facebook, but... May be we'll have new spam-removing bot or something
The power is in your hands to send a message to those accounts. When you know they are insincere and simply gaming the system, it is in your interest to flag them. You are a stakeholder in the platform. Don't let them abuse your platform.
I'm already flagging. Avoided it as much as I could, but that's it, I'm done being nice
Looknlike a chemistry teacher
May be;)
Well about the follow me i follow you at 1 point when i was new i used those lines as i wanted to be heard before posting my most loved art, but whenyou get to a point of knowing the culture, you adapt easily and there is something about steemit that changes you. Im sure that guy just came from a previous platform like facebook and just shares a lot, but of course not giving credit is rude as well, in time with all the new comers like i was a month ago, you could easily adapt as you want to learn how to operate in the platform and it would eventually be a practice that could manifest in the real world. It just my opinion my friend, and you know your becoming a celebrity here so people wants your attention as well @inber ✌️ hehe
But it's rude to put the same comment under each post over and over again without even reading it! Imagine - you put effort into writing your post, and you just get a comment like "nice stuff, go upvote mine and follow" in a second after posting. Obviously he didn't read. He just cares about his own content, which is stolen, by the way
Oh that i agree on, i have received a lot of that lately, well hopefully they learn, i have alot of batchmates that once they got my attention and follow, they never even bother to respond, some makes it effective and has a thousand followers, but you know what people notice that and usually those are the ones with no content later on will have less value. I wish theres a sort of patrol for that. But that woul make steemit like facebook or youtube, i guess karma will play, and in time the owner of the stolen content will discover soon. And i think ethics will play a role soon, like common sense would rule
We have @steemcleaners for content, but comments... Urgh!
