I Want to Congratulate All the Early Users of Steemit.
All the trials that we went through as a community are now paying dividends. It is not easy being a pioneer. Making a new path instead of taking the old worn out road is difficult. People thought we were crazy, accused us of being part of a Ponzi scheme and generally treated Steemit as a scam. Now we are reaping the rewards of having the ability to stick with something.
I know the pendulum is swinging towards huge growth because I am seeing many of my social media peers joining Steemit. These people are the ones who have hundreds of thousands of followers across social media. They will carry the Steemit banner far and wide. Steemit links will soon be found on every major social media site on the internet.
The one thing I found lacking on the platform was the lack of sharing content across the web. There is no easier way to attract people than to share our content externally. If you keep your content within the Steemit bubble then the only chance for others to see your content organically is via Google Search and that takes time.
Sharing across other social media platforms can have immediate rewards via more views. The long term rewards are that people begin to regularly visit Steemit and then sign up. This is exactly what happened to me with Medium.

I can feel that steemit is going to be something major in the upcoming years and to some extent a rival to Facebook.

To see Steemit come even close to Facebook would be amazing. Yet I have to wonder if the rewards per post/comment/upvote will decrease with more people on the platform.
Facebook will become myspaced by Steemit. It may take some time but these days things can happen much quicker than we imagine. Here's to the new normal! Followed ya.

Yes, share share share outside of steemit! More and make people from my network are signing up - even if it's "just to have a look" at first.
Do we know how many accounts are being opened per day? Is there a way to check that? I know we had a big backlog a couple of weeks back. Just that fact alone shows how steemit is going viral at the moment.
I don't know the exact numbers but it is growing exponentially. Six months ago we had 1200 or so active users now we get more than that signing up daily.
Wow, yes and with more and more Chinese users joining - that must be a LOT - great way to show how strong our blockchain is and how much traffic it can handle ;)
Money talks! Everyone who is blogging out there for nothing will eventually hear about and move over to STEEM.
I couldn't agree with you more @hilarski. Normally when people post something on Facebook, they share it on every other media platform they own.... I know most of the Steemit community doesn't like using other social media platforms, but everyone we need to start! Use it to market the Steemit Brand! It will help every current Steemian using this platform :)
When you feel your Steemit stories are not getting the attention they deserve then sharing them on other social media sites will in fact send more visitors which makes it more worth wile spending your precious time writing new original content.
Great stories can actually be promoted on sites like Facebook for pennies if you really want to boost your Steemit views.
Absolutely, Facebook ads were a tactic I used for years. I always promoted them in locations that were low cost.

As soon as Steemit goes mainstream it will be a flood of new users. Can't wait to see how it goes. I'm here for month and a half and even though I am not making much, because english is not my native language, I'm eager to see more of my language people so we can build and spread Steemit here.
Also, I just enjoy reading Steemit blogs. They are getting better and better every day. HF19 did a great job on that.
You're right... we need more external sharing. My wife and I both do that. Not so many people do...
We can but keep trying. I am working on the Facebook angle, sharing with interest groups where I am admin, and on some of my pages. Next step is to switch strategy... writing something "niche specific" on Steemit that's BOTH about the niche topic while ALSO promoting (subtly) Steemit as part of the article. I did that once before, and the post ended up with about 1800+ views, so there were definitely "eyeballs" coming over.
My wife is a graphic designer-- considering asking her to make a clickable image footer that's a quick Steemit promo, and using it in all my stuff... regardless of whether it's published here or elsewhere.
It seems to be getting harder to get Facebook to load a preview image when posting Steemit links... looking into the what/why of that. Might be because I hard code all my posts as HTML.
@hilarski, as a follow-up, your post inspired me to put an article out there for "web distribution," so thanks for the nudge! So far, so good... it's approaching 400 views... my question (since you've been at this for a while) is this: Is there ANY kid of app or tool out there that allows us to determine if someone made an account as a result of reading out content?

I think being able to merge the web 2.0 with SteemIT, which is an epithomy of WEb 3.0 for me is key. That way the transition would occur way faster and we would be able to grow the platform which enables freedom of speech way quicker. I have already told all my friends and coworkers about Steem + have promoted it on my personal Facebook and while a lot of them think it`s some ponzi scheme I have gotten at least 5 people onto it. Just like SteemIt rewards you on the platform, in real life networking could play a huge role. If each of us promotes it to 10 people, millions more would transition. In your face Google and FBIbook.! Great post!!!

It is definitely accelerating. I talk about Steemit but I rarely tell people to join. I just let my rewards convince them.
Everybody can be incentivised if money is involved. We need people who are actually fascinated by the whole idea of not being censored/folowed/avoiding the mainstream channels and THEN being appreciated about their content through monetary incentive. My humble opinion. Thank you for your contribution to the project, I have been following you since I registered!
Yes. I hope Steemit can be a more advanced social engine than Facebook. It seems to be so far. Mass adaptation may prove to be problematic, however. We shall see.
Hey @hilarski, I'm one of the new ones, or at shall be called reactivated. Yes, sharing would be a major hit. I use the share link in the bottom, facebook share I did not use as getting the link, I could edit some of the pictures and add text on facebook.

It is true that a good part of the users put links in their posts in steemit.com to the other social networks, such as youtube and facebook, and later do not put links in those networks to point to their posts in steemit.com

Only the main thing is that the team managed to process all requests. I waited a very long time, and I was helped out of the chat room. And many of my friends did not wait for registration, and waved at her.

Absolutely....I only fear that with such a novel idea and initiative like steemit, absence of an interactive platform that people would want.... Some other , much younger platform sound not come along ... Use the idea and steal the pie...... Remember Orkut vs Facebook days!!!!
The problem with promoting steemit outside is that we don't get upvotes from visitors who are not registered with steemit, hence nobody think of promoting it outside. If steemit also pays per unique impressions then the growth would high very quickly.
That is short-sighted thinking. I want people reading my content from everywhere.
yeah you are true but one day it will cover the whole world and i think steemit is the best flat form for all of us the platform where you can make community make friends and add value through your content and than rewarded on that and this is all of free thats the revolution of this type of plateform

Indeed. I'm still relatively new but I feel like an oddball around my peers because I'm the only one on steemit. Lately, though, I have been seeing more people from my region on the platform, so soon, I shall not be alone!

"People thought we were crazy...." Life has taught me that it's best to be the one who everyone thinks is crazy. It means you're doing something right....you're not part of the herd mentality. Thank you for your post and I love the video. I have a cat just like that, as in he'll eat anything. He shared guacamole with me yesterday.
I have been sharing my material in a variety of different places for a few months now, I don't know if this has inspired people to sign up to steemit or not but it certainly has increased the number of views that my posts get. Which indicates at least to me that it has been an effective way to get new eyes on steemit.
While it is great that Steemit is growning. I think that it is time for the interface to mature with it. It needs to be multi-column and have better tools right in the interface for promoting and following content. It currently takes a host of tools that many will not want to try to track down to really participate well. Upvote and I already follow you.
