Time is money. Is your time on Steemit worth the money?

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

So of course a lot of us have gotten addicted to steemit recently. I certainly have.

I deleted my Facebook account awhile ago, and I never got into Reddit. I was a 4chan sort of person, but then that got all censorshippy, so I moved elsewhere. But I wasn't satisfied. I just felt like I didn't have a community that was right for me.

Until now. Writing is something I love, but I also love ideas, science, philosophy, art and more! And getting paid to write about those things. Paid by the people, so I can write what I want, rather than paid by some drone who just wants to market a product or something boring.

So now I've been writing a lot of posts on steemit. Sure, your posts lose value after the 4th one in a day, but I don't care! I just love writing so much that I can't stop!

But is the time spent worth the money? We all celebrate making fifty cents or even five dollars from a nice post, but is it enough to justify the time being spent here? It's not exactly a secret that a job at McDonalds will pay more per hour than steemit. Of course steemit is more fun than working at McDonalds, but even so...

I must ask you: Is it worth it?

Is the profit from steemit worth the time you spend writing for it?

Sort:

@heretickitten Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but you get 4 blog postings in a 24hr period before you are penalized on ALL earnings for the day.
So let's say this one goes viral and hits $10,000
Because you've done so many the past 24hrs, you're only likely to see about $2,000

Slow down! You put out quality content, but you can't keep cranking it out like this or you're going to lose significant value.

Ahahah, I know, it's just so fun. But you're right, so I'm gonna severely limit myself.

To me, steemit is a huge explosion of creativity and greed ( I have more of the latter), but it is already a product of good quality. I am addicted to steemit by the quality and novelty of ideas and will stick around for a while.

For me, part of the profit of using steemit is being able to read lots of cool stuff. It's written by us, just normal people, so we're not reading the same boring stuff that people are paid to write about in commercial journals and magazines.

Not just that, but the fun of writing and having a community is also worth something to me. There's more to life and steemit than money.

That's why steemit is worth my time. Do you feel the same?

Re. "Is the profit from steemit worth the time you spend writing for it?"

Not for me so far - I was given $7.00 a week ago, I'm down to $6.51 now - can't seem to make any money here

That sounds troublesome!
But are you having fun here?

There's a soft limit on about four articles per day, so posting just four things, maybe one long essay, a poem, some pictures, and whatever random thoughts are on your mind, might be enough to limit your workload, but still give you the chance for some profits.

But you gotta make the decision that's right for you. Maybe steemit isn't your destiny.
Or maybe it is, and you just need to approach it another way. Perhaps you can write applications for steemit users, if you know programming. Or even open up a store someplace, online or reality, and accept steem.

You never know where life takes you, so go with the flow and smile.

Re. But are you having fun here?

Not really ... never was interested in social media sites - I came here to make some money posting

I think I'll just squander away my $6.51 up-voting then quit the site

I find it to be worthwhile. I always wanted to get into blogging but never really got around to it. For me, I simply see it as blogging with a monetary benefit. I don't really even think of that when I blog on Steemit. If I earn a reward, it's just an added bonus.

Is your time on facebook, reddit and twitter worth the money? Steemit content is entertainment.
