You make a good point. However - I do think it helps to know people on the platform. It helps to already have connections so they can support you, you can support them and more connections can grow from that.

I joined Steemit yesterday and although I love it, I don't know anyone at all and the only advice I've really been given is 'follow people and they'll follow you back'.

This isn't arguing against your case, but I do wonder if you have any networking tips? I've been commenting on people's stuff but even if the comment chain is a few comments long, it's not the same as having friends on here. Or even really enough for them to want to follow me!
