Mysterious Account Today! - The Unfollow Report - 7th July 2017

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Please read this post to understand why I started generating this report.

We did not see too much unfollow activity yesterday. Thanks to these reports (maybe :D ). I however, would like to keep a watch on the first account in today's report (bziing).

"bziing"  has over 800 followers but has not posted  even a single blog post or comment. Can someone explain the mystery of this account to me? ..and yeah it is not following anybody cos it just unfollowed them all !

| Username    |# People Unfollowed on 7th July | |-----------------|-----------| | bziing          | 2833      | | troyvandeventer | 450       | | onphamon        | 370       | | clearshado      | 330       | | vikky           | 232       |

How this technique works

1. Follow thousands of people in hope that they will follow back in return
2. Some people do follow back (in-fact a lot do!)
3. After a few days or weeks simply unfollow all users you had followed

This makes their followers numbers more than following and to a newbie user visiting the profile, it seems that these are really popular users.

Steemit is very different from the typical Social Networks and we all know it. With this report, I am not trying to point any fingers and you may have legitimate reasons to unfollow people in thousands! I am just trying to bring more transparency in the platform. The aim is to make aware and discourage people from using such practices which otherwise work perfectly on other closed Social Platforms!

lmao that guy with almost 3k. Dude was going ham or made a really nice bot. Too bad he couldn't put his code to good use.

Bots can be disastrous if put to wrong use :)

If you look at @bziing wallet he got a transfer of .001 steem from @ygchen. Not sure if they are related...

Interesting! they might be related.

The system is supposed to discourage multiple accounts right? I have seen some people run a curation bot and then their own blog page.

There is no restriction on having multiple accounts. Multiple accounts in fact are suggested for separating out regular activities such as reports and curations from the main blog.

Thank you for the clarification! Is it something you recommend? Should I have a second account that is strictly curation?
