I decided to leave Steemit for about a week, and I come back to see all the top posts at about $2-3k, when not even a week ago, they were over $10k. Is Steemit really sustainable? I mean, yeah, if it stays at $2-3k then there's no issue, however it appears to have dropped off significantly since I left. This is very concerning as I had a lot of high hopes for Steemit and wanted to continue to create content for the site, whether or not it actually makes me money.
When the Steemit circlejerk was at it's peak, posts were getting $20-30k just for introducing themselves, which is absolutely insane, now that that's slowed down, it appears to have dropped significantly. Is it that the whales have left temporarily or permanently? Or has the worth of Steem dropped so much that it's just not viable anymore?
Should we abandon ship now, is it a good idea to stick around until the ship sinks completely, or will Steemit make a comeback? I'm not sure there is a proper answer, however I for one am going to ride it out until the end. Not for the intellectual inbreeding, but because I believe in the potential of Steemit.
This place is a feedback loop. Whales choose to promote corporate sales pitches for Steemit rather than truly great content. Great content creators such as myself are already back on Reddit, where at least you have a chance to spark a cool conversation. I had a post at the top of reddit AND at the BOTTOM of Steemit at the same exact time. It was pretty telling to me. Thats just me - I am abandoning ship because this place is boring, and nobody here has an interest in my adorable ferrets, epic pictures or even crypto-news bits because its not directly in line with the Steemit Corporate Propaganda Machine. This is just another place where rich people decide what you should be paying attention to. I live in the USA, and this style of corporatism is getting dull. Its not very decentralized when the same 10 people are on the front page from day to day, or when 4 out of the 5 top posts are from Whales. And then there's gotta be one post from a girl with big boobs littering steemit balloons all over the beach.
Im pretty much done with Steemit.
However, all this money will have a huge impact. Its going to turn into a big corporate church. Dont want Hillary to be president of the USA? The whales will never vote for your post again.
Have an extreme belief?
A harsh critique of the platform?
Prepare to be blacklisted.
Otherwise known as a rich-man's circlejerk.
Completely agree.
I like STEEMIT. Just have the mindset that your posts will not make money, and then it's a bonus when they do! Perseverance, my friend, that's how you do well. I still have high hopes for this platform.
While I completely agree, as I've made money on a couple posts in the past. It's not my objective to solely make money, I'm worried about the site in general as I'm not sure if I believe it's sustainable.
Yes, I can see your concerns. No one really knows, I guess. A lot of people didn't expect BTC to keep truckin', yet here it is 7 years later. I think as long as the human connection is here, it will continue to be popular.
I agree. I want to receive more feedback about my work and my photographs as well made some money. Steemit have a terrible discoverability and to me honest I believe this will be fixed by third party websites that use steem blockchain network. I have social writing platform and I want to bring steem to there. Of course this will benefit my business but the more important is that I will be able to use my design skills and experience to create more than a beautiful website but a great experience for a niche. This will result in better chances to quality content to appear and perhaps, receive the whale attention.
Imagine a writer. Of course it is important to him to make money from his content but as a professional he wants to improve his abilities and the best way to do it is keep writing and receiving feedback from his readers. Look how much feedback you received here. Don't you think this has value to yourself?
The 12 hour rule came into effect, so contributions drop off from the top after their first run much quicker. There was a chart showing that author rewards stabilized suddenly once that happened, although I'm not sure where to find it. Payouts are still very high, they're just not all going to the top posts now.
It is too soon to leave. The whales have more content to deal with and there is new rules on how the up votes payback the authors and curators. I believe that the money will spread and to be able raise certain amount like 10k you will just need more votes, go viral, been popular and everything that we already now about how social networks works.
I once got 89 votes on a post. And it was worth .28 cents
The whales blacklist people like me, and if they dont upvote, then 90 votes wont be worth even a dollar.
