Would you like to know how much rewards we need to reach the trending page on Steemit because this might be useful to estimate how much we would have to spend on bid bots?
I'm writing this post in response to a question from a reader. I welcome all questions that you may have and if I know the answer, I will make a post.
How Much Rewards Do We Need to Reach the Trending Page?
Today I received a question that I found very interesting to answer for all of you.
@carolynseymour asked: "Could you tell me how much money one needs to place on a good article to get it on the trending page?"
When she says, "how much money," she refers to how much should we spend on upvoting bid bots to make it to the trending page?
My answer is that this will vary depending on the topic of your article. Some topics are very competitive like "Steemit" and others much less, so the amount of upvotes you need to make it to the trending page can be very different.
You might even don't need to use bid bots if you have lots of people who upvote your posts every day to a decent amount. If the article receives organically $60 in rewards, this might be sufficient, if it needs a push, maybe a 20 SBD bid to a bot can put you on the trending page.
I looked at 3 articles in 3 different trending terms to compare them.
Trending: Food
Let's say you have a post about food, your latest recipe, and you want it to reach the trending page.
Let's go to the corresponding trending page: https://steemit.com/trending/food
The most recent trending post I see is Steem Cooking Show: Pineapple Dole and it has $145 on it. I can conclude that I need the same value on my post to make it on the trending page the same.
The problem is that I am a bit late, maybe the post made it to the trending page after 5 hours and only $100?
What I can do now is see if the author has used bid bots and who are the top upvoters.
Visit this site https://steemworld.org/@alphasteem, the last part of the URL being the username of the author.
Go to the "Recent Posts" section and look for the post.
There, you can see that it has 162 upvotes and that there are two big upvoters, which are not bots apparently.
If you look at the "Transfers" tab, it indicates "(0)" which means no payment has been made to promote that post by the author.
If you want to achieve the same results with your article, I believe you would need 72 SBD in bids to the bid bots, which is half of the total $145 rewards, assuming you get very little organically.
If you already get $20 on all of your posts, I would say that $125 in rewards from bots would be enough, which I estimate to 62 SBD.
The best strategy would be to start with 20 SBD, and then bid more on other bots until the post reaches the trending page.
Trending: Funny
This is another post trending for "Funny": A being from another dimension has moved into my house.
It is the most recent post I see which was made 18 hours ago. The age of the post is similar to the previous post, but only $105 put it on the trending page.
I can also say that it's already late, maybe it was trending at $70?
I use the same site to look at the data for this post: https://steemworld.org/@hanshotfirst
When we go to this post, we see 213 upvotes and 3 main upvoters that appear not to be bots.
If you look at the "Transfers" tab, it also indicates "(0)" which means no payment has been made to promote the post by the author.
If you want to achieve the same results with your article in the "Funny" category, I believe you would need 52 SBD in bids to the bid bots this time, which is less than the previous post.
If you already have $20 on your posts, I would estimate 42 SBD in bids then.
I would use the same strategy to progressively put bids until the post reaches the trending page.
Trending: Steemit
This is now the third post in the competitive trending category "Steemit": [State of Steem #104 📈 | Steem $1.59] / SBD [$1.24] | Alexa Ranking [1787] | Activity [No.1] | Total Accounts [1,048,239] | Daily Account Transacting [56,799] | Market Cap #35 [$417,156,428]
The most recent post is 22 hours old and it has $482 on it.
Maybe it was already trending at $300?
This is the same site again: https://steemworld.org/@reko
When we go to this post, we see 324 upvotes and 6 big upvoters that we can recognize as bots.
Notice that the "Transfers" tab indicates "(6)" which means that six payments have been made to promote the post by the author.
Click on the "Transfers" tab and you can now see what the six bots are and the corresponding payments to each of them.
A total 296 SBD was spent on this article.
This is an interesting example because it tells you how much was spent in bids on this post, which has already quite a lot of rewards organically.
According to what I said for the two previous posts, I would have evaluated the bids at $240 to reach the trending page.
The author might have used the method of progressively bidding because the first 5 bids* are very close in time, then seeing the post didn't make it to the trending page, they added a last one for 33 SBD six hours later.
It's not an exact science, I can't tell exactly what amount would be needed to reach the trending page, but I hope this helps you to estimate.
If you want to reach the global trending page for all tags, values are much higher and you could just use the same approach to see how much you would need to have in rewards, and how much to pay for bots.
I hope this makes sense.

Great info!
Thanks.
This article has caused me to consider my tag strategy and how I want to rank in certain categories. Michel, have you found a method of tagging your posts that works best for your articles? Also, do you have a long-term strategy in mind and how important do you think tags are in the overall scheme of things here on Steem?
-Ken
I am glad @kenmelendez that this post is useful. I know that what should be done for best results is to write posts for trending tags and choose tags carefully. I don't do anything of these. I just write posts I enjoy writing regardless of the potential rewards that are basically the same for each post, and I choose tags based on what the post is about, whether or not the tags are trending. That's my long term strategy on Steem and that's how I wrote 262 posts in so many categories (links at the end of the post).
Is this post going to the trending page?
Good question @yonilkar. I prefer to run a marathon than a sprint, so it's unlikely it will go to the trending page and it's fine with me.
I don't want to trend my post. It is difficult for me. I just looking forward a person like you. That's enough.
Thank you @sayemsonai for your comment. I don't particularly look for having a post trending, I write it and then happens what happens. Over the 260+ posts I have written, only one made it good on the trending page.
Always very interesting article,Michel. I wonder how much the trending page brings in term of vue on the page itself, if it's really bringing a lot in term of visibility.
Thank you very much @skarnoze for your kind comment and I am glad that it is useful for you.
Super interesting read actually and I am leaning to the thought more and more that bidbots do not always have their desired effect and cost you a crapload of money. (I was never really enthusiastic on them anyway for a looooong time now already), but serious:
bidding 296 SBD in a post? That is like my total SBD payout in my whole steemcarreer of 9 months hahahaha
Thank you @karinxxl for your comment. Bid bots are a necessary evil for the poors who don't have enough SP to vote themselves up and have a quality post seen in the trending page. I believe that those spending that much still see decent returns.
I don't know how you come up with these informative posts every single day but you do! I've read some other posts that explores a similar topic, but you going the extra step to analyse some of the popular categories is very informative. Thanks for the post.
Thank you very much @zhuwa for your kind words. I had a question by someone that made me curious about it.
@gmichelbkk - what an interesting read! I had never before known of the steemworld site. I'll be sure to use this to check trending posts on the categories I frequent. I am still adamant on developing my posts organically, but at least I have tho knowledge loving forward in the future.
Excellent writeup!
Thank you very much @lethaltoast for your kind words. Not the first time I write about Steemworld, which is a fantastic site.
Very good info. I needed this. I’m still learning but hard work beats all work. You gotta be consistent & dedicated.
Thank you very much for your comment @ericksantos.
No problem!
nice work bro .
thanks for sharing your research .
I am glad that you like it @imran-aslam.
The earlier you get that $ value in, the better, right? It decays over time. Optimizing early votes is key to getting ourselves visible on our chosen tags.
Please check out my post about the SBD price drop.
Yes, @felipejoys, exactly. If you see a post popping up within one hour, this will give you a more accurate value for the minimum $ to have. I will check out your post, thank you for sharing.
my posts are not getting upvotes, even though few of my posts are very good.
Yes, I understand, it's difficult @hussainasghar.
Thank you @Michel for going the extra mile to answer my question. Just knowing about steemworld and all the valuable information to be found there is a plus. However, I'm using autocurate and following a trail and fanbase, but my account is losing money every day. I'm receiving a lot of votes, but a poor response. My last post which included a video only received $1.66 and I lost $12 overnight from my account. How does this happen?
The value of sbd and Steem is going down every day, so if people that are in the trail upvoted you with 5% and that gave you $0.02 for one vote, if they haven't increased their percent, the vote is probably at $0 now. I don't see how you lost $12, only downvotes could do that.
I don't know how it happened either. How could I research it? My account continues to lose money every day, instead of increasing. Could it be because I haven't written a post in 5 days? Would that have something to do with it?
Are you talking of you estimated wallet value?
If that's the case, STEEM and SBD are going down a lot, so that's why you are losing money. Not blogging for 5 days has nothing to do with it, except that you haven't earned rewards for 5 days.
Thanks Michel. So, if I understand you correctly, I m losing money because the price of steem and sbd is going down. But I pay the bots money to upvote my content and I still don't see a change. BTW I purchased one of your books from Amazon on making Wordpress load faster. Im really enjoying learning this new material. It's well worth my time to read. Thanks!
The problem is that there is a 7-day window between the time you pay the bots and receive the rewards. If the Sbd was higher 7 days ago and now the rewards are paid with a lower sbd, you lose money. It can go the other way too where Steem and Sbd go up when the rewards are paid. Maybe the whole value is going down at the moment, but using the bots should increase your SP consistantly. When the price of Steem goes up again, then you will have more. Think long term. Thank you very much @carolynseymour for buying my book on Amazon. I hope it will be useful.
Interesting question
What about the answer @andysmart?
its really interesting concept and I need to consider few parameters in my future posts. thank you so much for sharing Michel Gerard! looking forward to see more like these..
I'm new to steem actually and trying to learn and connect with like minded people. god bless you Michel Gerard! I like your positive response to all the people who are commenting here.
Thank you @mohansampath for your kind comment. I do like positive comments from readers the same and value every one of them, even if I disagree sometimes.
That's the spirit I love it from you @gmichelbkk. Thank you.
Congrats @gmickelbkk ✅

Thank you !
I'm a bit awkward on my position over bots. On the other hand I feel like those who do are doing the steem platform a disservice raping the reward pool for the benefit of few bot herders and themselves. I've not always been like this, for I too abused steem by bidding on bots when I was new. And I still kind of benefit from it as I've delegated part of my SP to two curating services (bots) and get rewarded daily SBD.
Not sure how I should do this. I guess I'll remove the delegation later and only use it if I take a holiday from blogging.
Bots are only there to compensate between the inequalty of those who can buy 100k SP and then upvote each of their post for $30 and those who can't. You are delegating to a community bot as I do so there is a need for the smaller guys to use the service to have their post seen. Thank you @gamer00.
I found your post interesting... thanks to jerrybanfield keep doing a great work.
Thank you very much for your comment @th3nolo.
@gmichelbkk it's a good article I am new to this and new guy being in this Platform, Can my post reach to Trending list? I believe it will. Very hard for newbie but yes I will try the things you have shared
Thank you very much @askjoyb for commenting. I every try to reach the trending page and if it does, then that's good. Writing consistently is the key I think and if you do, you will hit this trending page more often.
Is it even possible to be successful here just by posting content, without handcranking your posts?
It depends what you call successful @brainsmash. If you just write and don't make the effort to promote heavily, your posts are likely not to be seen and not to be upvoted.
Thanks for your suggestions.. but you can help others but upvoting and helping others grow..
It's what I do, thank you.
Nice view!!!
Marvelous gift!!
What view?
Exactly!
What view?
it is fairly sure that, without bid bots trouble is coming on the trending page!
What do you mean @mr-rudro.
?
every day there are many good posts, but in most cases the posts are seen in trending boosted! without bid bots very few are seen in trending .
That's correct @mr-rudro and that's a shame that good posts don't make it to the trending page. This requires a lot of support from a lot of followers unfortunately. That said two of the three posts I mentioned didn't used bots and that can encourage us to continue creating good content.
