Because there's a multi-country audience on Steemit and not everyone gets the street talk.
2ndly, Facebook, Twitter etc literally own our pages. Steemit gives us a sense of ownership.

I understand what you are saying but it may actually psychologically be more effective to use a phrase that people are less familiar with - it raises more curiosity.
I used to hear about Tweeting a lot from people who had no idea what it was - I think that fact actually made it more effective in the end because people actually had to put in the effort to find out what it was.
They had to invest psychological capital and it resulted in more discussions and conversations than would otherwise have occurred.
"Get paid, not owned" owned is growing on me too. There is something to be said for the direct route too. Lol it is not easy doing this stuff I am in two minds now:)

Lol. Let's see what other ideas come in and what people think but I am liking it more as time goes on. Might also be worth getting a vote on the top ideas once we have them in.
I agree with gizmosia. Also, I am a newbie to all of this and older than most of you, so I'm playing catch-up. I was confused by "pwned", though I always like alliteration which cryptofiend was aiming for.
