Hey @zoedj, that's a very well written post and I totally feel your pain, as do many others. I am not an expert by any means, but I'll make a few suggestions, maybe you are already doing them:
search "suicide" and other related terms in the search bar. Engage the people and posts within those specific tags and build relationships
post your articles in different tags. Check the explore tab in the drop down menu and see what is getting the most usage. If its relevant, try the new tag!
Send small payments of SBD (.01 or something like that) directly to whales with the link to your post and some comments about what you are trying to do. I've never done this, but seen it.
Speaking candidly, I normally wouldn't respond to this article either, but it caught my attention and I think what you are trying to do is SUPER important.
Ultimately, many people here are on Steemit to profit and Facebook, Twitter, and other Social Media channels may end up being your best bet unfortunately.
