I often read a lot about the sense of community on steemit, how "overwhelmed" people are by the “amazing connection” they have made with this person or that through the platform. Some are genuine with this sentiment yet I get the feeling that many talk the talk but if/when tested on it would be unable (or unwilling) to walk the walk. Community means a whole lot more than a simple upvote or resteem and am annoying "good post my dear" comment.
I've seen a few acts of generosity on steemit of course and there’s some out there doing generous stuff with the view to building their brand and the platform through community/platform engagement; Also some simple acts of kindness and generosity as well so it’s not all bad however in the main I see a lot of talk and a lot of selfishness.
My wife gave me a gift yesterday, you can read about it here - Please do. I decided I'll pay it forward and to give a little back to the community myself so I’m going to give away two of my half-ounce silver coins to a deserving steemit user, complete with one of the most Aussie of icons stamped on it. The koala bear! This is not a challenge however it may prove to be challenging for some depending on how they truly feel about, and embrace, the spirit of community. I guess whether you get nominated or not will be up to how you've conducted yourself so far on the platform I guess.
Below you’ll find the parameters of the “giveaway” and how to enter. You should probably read this post and the rules below very carefully so you understand. Incorrect entries will not be submitted into the draw. (Yes, you'll have to read the whole post...)
Reply to this post and nominate/tag the steemit user you think would benefit from having the coins. (Don't nominate me) Strictly one nomination per user only. Explain in 20-30 words why you have nominated that user (their account legitimacy will be checked) Entries will close 6 days after this post goes live. No random comments in the reply please, just the tag and 20-30 word explanation.
I will also enter an unspecified number of users (wildcards) who have made nominations, maybe 3 or so, in addition to the nominated users so some of the people nominating other's will have a chance at winning. This is about nominating deserving people though right?
Each nominated entrant and the 3 or so wildcards will be put into a container and the draw will be video recorded
The result will be posted and the winner will be contacted (somehow) so the winner can email me with their postal address details. I will need to verify the recipient to be true and correct of course. (You may like to have a discord user name for this purpose or even create an email address just for this purpose to send me)
The coins will be posted (worldwide) to the winner within a reasonable time frame and as soon as possible after the draw and the address/user has been verified (I’m busy so don’t pester me about it please)
My decision's will be final in all matters. I'm quite serious about this - It's my silver and so I think that's fair. I also reserve the right to do whatever I want.
So, that’s pretty much it. I decided to run with the ”nominate someone else” thing rather than entering oneself because I’ve read many many posts and comments about how thankful users are to others for one thing or another and thought it would be a great chance for those people to get all warm and fuzzy inside by nominating a deserving user they would like to have the chance to secure my silver coins. I think it would be so cool to see some very deserving steemit user pick up the coins and way cooler that they were nominated by one of their generous peers!
What would be even more cool would be a resteem of this post which, through additional coverage, may see even more deserving nominees have the chance at the silver coin. If you don’t want to resteem that’s ok too of course.
I know that some may simply nominate their secret second account, a friend or family member or steemit mate however I really hope that some people genuinely nominate someone who really deserve's it and that that individual wins in the draw. Also, I have gone with the two half-ounce coins instead of a one ounce in case the recipient decides that paying it forward has merit and wants to pass one on to someone else who is also deserving. How awesome would that be!
OK, so there you have it. This is my first go at this and there may be some bugs I guess so you'll have to be patient with me. This may all go pear-shaped but hopefully not. I hope people embrace it though as I feel the steemit community could use a bit more...community. Just a little bit.
I nominate @msendija1
She is an extremely talented young artist, and blogger, yet because it is tough to fight whales and people who post only to earn, her posts are so undervalued
In all the truth, I have no one to nominate. Maybe, because I'm just that weird like that my good friend @galenkp.
However, I'm highly happy to witness your unique initiative of Paying it forward. And therefore, I'm gonna upvote & resteem this post with all my strength!!
Cheers!! :)
Hi @por500bolos I greatly appreciate your resteem and vote. There's still a little time so if you decide you'd like to nominate someone then please go ahead. It may also gain you an entry into the draw as a wildcard. It's your choice mate, I just appreciate you reading and reacting to my post.
Thank you mate for your kind words. And if it is mandatory nominate someone. I guess my choice would have to be @steemchiller for obvious reasons. For his restless good work on SteemWorld and also to simply remind to everybody here; ¿Why the heck you, me and everyone else that make life in steemit everyday has always two tabs simultaneously open in their browsers all the time?
Cheers!! };)
GREAT CHOICE! That man does work tirelessly on that wonderful system. I agree 100%
Thank you @johndoer123. Really glad that we agree on our points of view.
Cheers!! :)
What a way to have my mind blown as soon as I woke up. People truly are amazing. The physical side as well as the emotional and compassionate sides as well. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. What an uplift!
My pleasure mate!! :)
Just stay in tune with my extravagances for an eventual uplift here & there sometimes. LoL
Cheers!! :)
I nominate @insideoutlet for her continous work on helping under-valued and great posters through the @asapers that need more exposure to their work and share the result as pay it forward action.
Great nomination ❤❤❤❤
Awww shucks guys, you rock thanks @cicisaja and @yogajill xx
Wish that you'll win the silver coins and share more for the community😂 You'd prefer diamond than silver I guess😉
@cicisaja haha who wouldn't love a diamond or two lol but in saying that my hubby and I do love coins and often collect odd ones from our travels.
Well.. I nominate the right one😉
I nominate @johndoer123 .. .. he runs many easy to win games that help newbies out a great deal. Visit his blog you won't be disappointed.
That's very kind and generous of you. I really appreciate it. If I do win, I'm going to have him ship you it instead. You've helped so many people here too! And been so supportive of me in this Community and for me as a friend. I really do appreciate you. I'm so glad to have met you. @galenkp, you should go to @rentmoney's page and check out all the great stuff he's doing!
I nominate @thedarkhorse
A true giver to the platform time after time and does not seek a reward in return
Yep....Yep. Great choice there! Both of you guys do great things!
@weetreebonsai. She has been my steemit mother figure since my beginning. I can truly say she is here for the community and not for the money, which speaks volumes.
Awww thank you sweetie, may I live up to your words...
You’re welcome! I meant it. It was only coincidence that your comment was above mine :)
I nominate @kryptik - a soon-to-be-dad, hope-to-become-paramedic and a majestic cock with a golden heart.
Thanks kris! I’m flattered you nominated me.
Giggles
I nominate @abh12345
Focusses his attention and energy on community - engagement, and empowerment of other users in an organic (human, approachable) way. Skilled work done selflessly, tirelessly and with integrity. Long track record of this.
How did i miss this, ginabot must have been on strike.
Thank you very much @barge for the nomination and very kind comments above!
I would like to nominate @paulag who works hard recognise new users and encourages us to stay. In particular her red fish league.
wow thank you, I am very honored
I nominate @goldmatters because he has been the most resourceful steemian as far as gold knowledge and investment is concerned. He is ever consistent, always willing to help new adopters set foot on track of their gold journey. Community is about helping the helpless, his support for #steemsilvergold community is unprecedented.
Nominations are closed. Sorry.
I nominate @tecnosgirl active steemian who often has give aways of her own and over the last year have seen her make sincere random acts of kindness.
I wake and and read this and idk why but it made me cry. thanks for the nomination @steemitadventure
Hi galen. I nominate your brother @tarazkp. He has helped me over and beyond and has helped others as well. I can think of no one more deserving.
Thank you but, edit and nominate someone better than me :)
You are at the top of the list for me so it is genuine. I know it's your brother but there is a small chance you could get them.
LOL I thought about him too ! but that would just put @galenkp in an awkward position.
Yep, sure would. Besides I’m sending him a steem 1 ounce coin I bought last week anyway. He doesn’t need another. He’d not want to win my silver over another user no matter how deserving people think he is.
That's what makes him who and what he is. He will enjoy the Steem coin. Nice
I would like to nominate @dixisilverminer as him and his better half Dixisilvergirl really do what you are speaking of they are bringing community's together and are always grateful for just the smallest of things they truly embrace how awesome we can all be if we want to be
I nominate @pipiczech This young lady is one hard working blogger. Here posts are detailed and very well written even though English is not her Native language. She is always nice to people who interact with her and welcomes everyone to her page. Please award her this gift, it is well deserved. Thanks upvoted, followed, and resteemed.
@harrynewman has encouraged me with thoughtful comments since I joined. We ‘met’ through teamaustralia. His partner @krystalfinnigan has been equally supportive so I hope they could share the prize 😊
Fantastic idea. A great way somebody can thank someone else who has gone above and beyond.
I nominate @inspiredgideon.
His enthusiasm is infectious and he clearly puts tonnes of work into his excellent posts.
Wow @galenkp, this has the distinct feel of a contest, but I know it's definitely not!
I'm nominating @themanwithnoname. First of all he loves silver. A lot; just check out his posts. More importantly, he has been so kind and generous to Brian and I, but you'll love this part: it's never public, so I hope he doesn't get upset with me for saying so here. He has countless times via Discord, been helpful to us financially but also supportive in terms of just talking and connecting. Finally, he has nominated me for several things here that gets him nothing. A truly selfless good egg :)
Too many words?
Yep. Plus random comments. I'm trying to avoid making this a chore. If it gets hard it will never happen again. This draw (not contest) is my attempt and giving something back to steemit users in a valid way.
There are many for whom an ounce of silver would mean a great deal and I did this process to hopefully reward one of them. I could have just picked someone but wanted the community to do so. I also need people to read the post because most never do. Those who don't read and understand will not enter correctly and their nomination may miss out for that reason.
This may all backfire and I'll never do it again but I need people to be on board, to read the posts rather than simply click upvote and move on and hopefully the habit catches on. In respect of the term contest, well, this is a draw. A contest is an event in which people compete for supremacy in a sport or other activity, or in a quality. or when people engage in a competition to gain supremacy. This is a simple draw that I hope people embrace from a community aspect. If not then I'll keep all of my gold and silver and everyone else can go get their own.
I'm trialling this for a reason and I hope other's do the same or similar. I am giving away this silver, not awarding it to someone who has to do anything other than be the right person to be nominated by another user in the first place. I'm sure you understand. And yes, @themanwithnoname would be a worthy recipient.
Wow @galenkp, this seems to have escalated rather quickly. If by "random comments" you mean my attempt at a joke regarding contests, I'm happy to delete it. And by the way, I always read all of your posts, beginning to end.
Let me clarify. @themanwithnoname is who I'm nominating. He loves silver and is very kind and generous to me and I'm sure others.
Agreed.
Awww, thank you @lynncoyle1. That's very sweet of you. Thank you!
Sorry I'm late to respond, I've been out enjoying the outside world. Did you know there was something beyond Steemit?! I think I forgot. Anyhow, I'm trying to catch up now and saw your kind words.
I saw this post and immediately thought of you :) You are very welcome @themanwithnoname 😅
I have been rather singularly-focused for a while now. My interest in silver is probably more notable outside the stacking community. I appreciate the thoughts though! I'm excited for the drawing. :)
I'll nominate @cicisaja for her continued efforts to help others and the steemit community without looking for rewards. Love her Pay It Forward Mindset!
I'll nominate @davemccoy for his selfless work with the @dustsweeper initiative. From his original use of a delegation, to the program as it stands, Dave has been amazing.
AN AMAZING CHOICE!!! I agree 100%. This man and @danielsaori are completely awesome selfless individuals! Great choices @sparkesy! You yourself are an amazing Steemian! And speaking of you being awesome, we should be shipping your thank you present by this weekend.
Thanks, and thank Evan for me. I look forward to seeing what he's made
I nominate @tezmel. She's a great story writer from Kenya that supports others without really getting the reward she deserves
I also nominate @insideoutlet.
cofounder of the community focused @asapers account, manages the discord channel and has a strong focus on ensuring she regularly distributes the vp of the asapers and her own into the reward pool. Her effort on the asapers is often at the expense of her personal account.
This seems a nice giveaway. Surely a pretty nice and valuable object too and of course adorable!
I am one who says I love the community and do mean it, but I've never done a give away or anything like that. I just mean I like some of the people I've meet and have had good conversations the way I've recieved good letters in the post, in the form of comments going back and forth. And of course follow ups on disocord as well as sharing actual email (I know email is SO last century, but I still like to send and receive the dinosaur communication)
I have give some art prints randomly to people I have met on here, just for fun. I have thought of doing give aways but didn't want it to seem to like I was trying to build a brand. It's odd becuase I would like to do some but I can also see how it is a way to build and improve exposure, of course I am an artist and I do like it when people by my work on things, but I don't necessarily only do it for that.
The online world is fraught with these conundrums as we all try to figure out the social cues and the right subtle nuance for lives lived in 1's and 0s.
Good luck to everyone! Oh, and I should nominate someone, hmmm I guess I nominate @ddschteinn as he is one of the people I enjoy this community with in back and forth long comment threads and I think he'd do a funny post about the thing if he won!
I nominate @insideoutlet because she is the @asapers
great writing
I agree! I think it was an inspired article. What was your favorite part? Was it when @galenkp started talking about time travel and how it relates to the deforestation in the Great Salt Lake? That part got me right in the emotions.
:D
I nominate @tcpolymath for all the work he's doing to grow those users who are promising looking to be great supporters on the platform too.
I nominate @papa-pepper.
He is an awesome steemian and works hard to build up people and this community, he gives so much to others.
I nominate @vgholdingsllc
He is an active member of steemit, writes great content, has a love of silver/coins, and gives back to the community.
Thanks for this @knowledge-seeker. I don't look at mentions very often. You rock man!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
I nominate @briancourteau. His fight to truly live is an inspiration to many... and he's one of my heroes.
thank you for your sharing, I like it !
I hope so you visit my blog. Welcome !
What a fantastic initiative, there are many who come to mind, however my nomination goes to @petesays
Pete remains genuine and is always encouraging and supportive to share ones true view without judgement, and does so himself. Plus now I know what a braai is :D
Wow! Excellent idea!
Hi @papa-pepper, thanks for your reply. It’s a small thing really and whilst it doesn’t support minnows or new users directly I’m hoping the idea may catch on in this format, a simple draw of people nominated by their peers. I hope the person who eventually receives my silver is someone who truly needs it to make a difference to them, not so much financially but emotionally. That’s really what I’m paying forward here; Gratitude (from their peers) positivity and hope.
Anyway, I see that you have been nominated so all the best with the draw and thank you for replying.
First, awesome idea and thank you for your selfless act.(sorry if I go over in the amount of words I use. I really will try to keep it short.)
Secondly, I would like to nominate @luxx. My son has recently been going through a very traumatic situation for him.(his mom disappearing in and out of his life due to drugs) And this great talented man has volunteered his time and energy alonte with his talents and supplies to draw him a picture of his mom to help him through this time. I am forever in debt to his man.(He also drew my son a dragon, which helped him get over his night terrors.)
Entry is now closed,
I nominate @mattclarke because of his selfless nature with his own silver coins, plus I know that there is a greater likelihood that the coin will find a home where it's most needed.
I appreciate the thought though, mate :)
Sorry, nomintions are closed.
