When it comes to @instructor2121 I have seen him working very transparent in building up a community of real people who read and follow different content, my impression is that his trails have a function of a good old fashion "book-reading-club" who curate very serious in a manual time-consuming way.
When it comes to "lining his pockets" and "taking rewards from the rewardpool" - that seems to be a very quick judging opinion from your side. Maybe it will do you good to come on discord and actually talk - voice with him and his community of 1000+ members on http://discord.gg/pz3UT6s when they have meetings every night.
Or join steemspeak with 1500+ members on http://discord.gg/g7amU35 and ask the always active people there what they think about this.
