I'm sure there is a profit to be had in the service.
So, the questions are who, when, and what would that cost.
As a dedicated frugal shopper I would hope that we could crowdfund a free option for all members.
Perhaps a small ongoing subscription fee, maybe the value of ten votes per month?
I'd like to finance it through votes, but that is unfair to the authors that don't use it.
I thought I could just use https://startmail.com, but they wanted a per month fee that was unappealing to me.
I thought hushmail would be a good option, until I read their disclaimer.
Is there one amongst us willing to take one for the team and create an encrypted email service that is truly private?
If it was decentralized maybe they couldn't force any one individual/company to disclose the keys.
I'd think that lots of people would like to use an email service that encrypts so that only the necessary people have access to the content.
Maybe it could be incorporated into the steemit website.
Maybe even encrypted messaging on the blockchain itself.
Hmm,...I'd rather that no record was kept, as to put it on the block chain leaves it vulnerable as soon as the encryption that wrote it is broken,....
How long that would take, I don't know, but at some point the capabilities of the average computer will be enough to break the encryption.
