Let's Talk—3 Things That Brings Me To Steemit Everyday! What About You?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

In recent weeks, Steemit has been growing at a brisk pace, with Steem and SBD prices surprising us all. Even signups have increased as new members continue to join us from all parts of the world. There are several new applications on the blockchain powering new websites and our community is thriving.

These are generally some indications of rising popularity of our platform on the web. There are of course many things that needs to be improved, but development is also moving at a good pace. 2018 is lined up with several updates which we expect will propel Steemit towards mainstream adoption in the future.

As a stakeholder and user of the platform, I find it intriguing to find out what brings everyone back to Steemit. Today, we will discuss these aspects of our platform, to find out what aspects of this website and/or the blockchain creates the most user interest and increased engagement.

1. Social Interaction

Steemit has been good for blogging and sharing content from it's early days. However as the community of users grew, the need and potential for real world networking and friendships became apparent and also possible.

Over the past year and half I was able to forge real world friendships with people from different pars of the world thanks to Steemit and Steemit.Chat. Many of us came together twice during Steemfest and stay connected on a regular basis. After 1.5 years of work, many of my friends have signed up as well. It's great to be able to watch their participation and growth on this platform.

2. Financial Freedom

If we scale properly and get things right, there is a possibility that Steemit could be named amongst one of the top social media websites that helped shape the internet as we know it. If we scale to a level where we can support millions of people across the globe, we may also be able to provide some kind of basic monthly income purely by way of user participation in the millions!

The idea that this could happen, and we could create this reality, motivates me to come back everyday and give this place my best! I strongly believe that we're all contributing to changing 'business as usual.'

As a cryptocurrency enthusiast, just as many of you here, I have profited by investing into different crypto projects. However, Steemit and Steem blockchain captures my imagination beyond it's monetary benefits. But monetary benefits cannot be ignored. Our time is limited. In my opinion it is incredible that we can earn a little extra from our time spent using a social media site. More people should be doing this.

I'm sure in the past year and half, many here have earned a decent bit of crypto money on Steemit. I know for a fact that some of you are able to manage your monthly living expenses completely just by using the platform. In our materialistic world, financial freedom provides real freedom to many of us. Maybe holding Steem might just help secure your future while the little curation rewards that we receive adds to our passive income.

3. Steem Ecosystem

Many developers across this space continue to build some amazing apps. Sometimes when I visit Steemtools.com, there seems to be a new project listed there or trending has a new announcement for an application built on the blockchain. Apps such as @steepshot, @busy.org, Chainbb, Dtube etc are very promising with regular updates and an increase in user adoption.

I have immense respect for developers and engineers who are building new useful applications on the Steem blockchain. The fact that so many people are working together to create a solid foundation to what could be a game changer in the market is quite frankly inspiring to observe.

These are some of the things that draws me to Steemit everyday. I'd like to know what brings you to the platform. If you've been around for over a year, what is it that made you stick around?

Please share your experience in the comments below.

First, I was attracted by the money who pay the bloggers (as I was already a blogger for years). Then I discovered the blockchain technology and Crypto (with Andreas Antonopoulos, in fact, I read all his books). Then by building the french community, I fell in love with the community ! :-)

I came for the money (#2) (and I got it), but I mainly stayed for the community (#1).
I am not using many of the "active" apps.

One thing I like to do on Steemit is to run contests.

For example, on the @adsactly society account, I am running the SteemShort contest, where writers and illustrators compete to create collaborative short stories.
The first SteemShort has been written and this week we will know its title and illustration: https://steemit.com/steemshorts/@adsactly/adsactly-contest-steemshort-1-post-4-request-for-an-illustration-and-the-title-of-the-story

That's quite interesting!

I believe it will be great for contests and engagement we also came for the community not the money so to speak a lot of us minnows do not know how to use the platform and to be hones there is vague information out there so we hope to find some profiles that actually explain how it works.

I am a health advocate and blogger. I've been consistently active since April this year. I want to help more people but also need to survive financially. With advertising on my blog and over 2000 visitors a month I make about $10 a month. Not enough to cover my outgoing costs to keep the page running.

Since joining steemit I made, after conversion about 10 x that on my first post. Which opens opportunities to do more. It's an exciting thought and one of the main reasons I joined steemit.

We would have never found steemit without first looking into Altcoins and Crypto currency. The idea of being able to dabble in Crypto and get paid in crypto is another reason we joined.

And lastly my hubby @shai-hulud joined and recommended it to me. He very rarely gets excited about anything, so anything he does get excited about I know will be a winner.

I'm also loving the community and the varied posts. So nice to see people's lives rather than what they had for breakfast or their latest bi#@h session or gripe.

I no longer flick though Facebook feeds. I checkout my fellow steemians instead.

Have a great day!

I'm glad Steemit was so beneficial to you! I hope your blogs on and off Steemit continue to grow over time. Good luck to you! :)

The finances got me started and certainly help to keep me plugged in, but the real sense of good content often being truly valued and supported (because, especially now, we are all on the same "team" in a real way if we are invested in the platform long-term). With the algorithms on other platform, it's become nearly impossible to get traction anymore without a lot of advertising money; here, it's been very different.

Finally, but certainly alongside the other two, is that I authentically love the people here--I think we attract misfits/creatives/think-outside-the-boxers a lot, and I'm finding a real niche community here which I love to visit every day--thoughtful people who want to find real value and offer real value.

Great post, friend! :).

Xx, Kay

Great to read your thoughts on this Kay. Great to have you stop by! :)

Well, I come here for

  1. New platform for me altogether, lot to learn about this world of block chain, crypto, ...

  2. Worth the time spent as it seems much more rewarding than wasting my time scrolling through FB posts as the posts on this platform are making me learn

  3. Making sure others learn from the little knowledge & experience of traveling in the Himalayas I have on my blog, so that it can be shared with others. In turn, one hidden reason will be to promote the Himalayas of India on this promising community.

Less than 5 days, I am totally addicted to it which I never was to any other site than my own blog ;)

Great to hear that you are starting to enjoy using this platform. I've been here for over 1.5 years and it's awesome. Feel free to share about your experience of using this platform with your friends. :)

The financial freedom part definitely gets me back to SteemIt. I'm so grateful and thankful for the cryptocurrencies existent ... it will help all kinds of people gain wealth .. hopefully benefitting the poor who could not have access to this kind of wealth with regular banks/gov't.

The concept behind steemit it is revolutionary, just needs some tweaks to the formatting. And it will moon, getting paid to use social media is crazy. Still don't know when steemit will be out of beta if ever, but that day will be huge.

Oh man @firepower you said it ! I come here for the friendship , freedom and creativity . Such a beautiful place :)

It is good to know #steemit in the first place.
There are some certain things that normally brings me to steemit everyday.

The first thing is to check my reply box and view the reactions of people towards what am doing on steemit through my post or comments and to know the area to improve on.

The second thing is to check on my followers and know what they are feeling through their posts.

The third thing is to learn about crypto and what people are saying concerning steem blockchain and to watch how it grows and ho i can invest.

Yeah those are the 3 things i like about it as well. I look forward to new stories and memories of people that I interact with.
I recently had my first personal payout and it felt so good.
But I am also here long term so I usually power up and want the community to get better. I always promote steemit.

all of the above ...LOL

you nailed it man

haha thanks :D

I want to be a part of something.

I think Seemit has a good chance of being something.

I am fascinated by patterns of human behaviour on social media and when you add a currency element it makes it a lot more interesting.

Those are my 3

Freedom
Community
Support

This is the three things I enjoyed here in Steemit. The community is awesome

Thank you for the motivation...I love steemit mainly because of the social interaction....thank you for sharing.

you are right , These reasons are really important to make us open this site daily !
I also add some reasons that make me open this site daily like
1I want to make my sister happier and enroll her in university
2 I want to learn drawing better than I do now
3 This site increases my ambition and hope to help myself and others in the future
in the end i want to say maybe this is the first comment from me to you , but i remember you , You are one of the people who Welcomed
me when I registered in this community so i see daily your blogs and i want to say thank you for the optimism you give me inadvertently when I see your success :)

Those are some very good points! :) Wish you the very best.

My wife @insideoutlet already posted here with her things that make her check steemit but here are my reasons.

  • Can my wife and I profit and add value to this community? For the sake of transparency you will note profit was the first motivation.

  • After my little indroduceyourself post got a tiny bit of traction I checked more than daily to see if I was gaining money.

  • After a tutorial I wrote gained a tiny bit of traction I began checking even more frequently because I was excited that I might actually have something to add.

  • On top of all that I check again because while I I don't know if they agree I feel like I am making relationships and engaging with people I don't know which is something I would never do on facebook @amyinautumn @jessandthesea @kindstranger and perhaps @hitmeasap but that guy is blowing up so I'm not sure I register

I totally agree with you! Our introductions brought us into each others' worlds, which I find awesome. Because we're feeling things out together and I feel like I have a micro-community of minnows to reach out to, if need be! You can feel confident that you have the same in me! One day, when we're octopi or piranhas or something....we'll look back and laugh.

Also, if you don't know about it yet, the app Steemify will allow your obsession with Steemit to get even more out of control. But it's very useful....

I tried searching Steemify buy it didn't come up in my app store, do you know if it's available on android?

Agh, yeah....I did read that it's for IOS only :-/

Balls... lol, that is the only thing I didnt know about before switching us to Android. Lots of things come out on IOS first or only. I hope that Steemify gets so big they need to develop one for us Android users. Until then. Mobile internet app it is. Thanks for replying.

I think the three points that brings you to Steemit are the same that brought me too,, Except me being a beginner and I read too much on the platform in order to improve myself in blogging.

That's great. I read an awful lot myself throughout the day.

I like your list and have been psyched of course these past weeks as the steemit site has functioned like a well-oiled machine and of course the markets have been well-oiled supporting cryptos too, dynamite combination! STEEM/Steemit has made huge strides and in 2018 will WOW everyone with eyes on the decentralized prize !! peace

I just signed up...i hope to enjoy what everyone is enjoying here

I have always wanted to blog, or I guess just ramble about what is going on in my mind and see if people would care to read about it. I have always loved to write, and I spend a majority of my time on social media sites anyway lol, so I figured I would give this a try! Let me tell you, this is going to revolutionize the social media platform! The community is AMAZING, supportive and respectful, and you can get paid to do what you love! So, I came for the money. I'm staying for the community and the ability to share my opinions and knowledge with others. Hopefully I can inspire a few people along the way and also learn from others!

Why i am visiting Steemit? I'm new, excited and curious what this place can offer. And i am tired of facebook and all the other companies...

I come here because its users have the best intentions when they engage with you.

I’m still new here @firepower I came for #1 and hopefully get #2 :)

Hey, thanks for sharing your reasons why you visit Steem every day.

As for your question: When I read about steemit, I was more than enthusiastic about the idea of a social media platform on the Blockchain. At the time, I had no idea that you will be rewarded here in monetary terms. In the course of my Steemit existence, I have read and tried a lot, and the fact that the user could send a few cents or more to me, impressed me.

But what was really special was the experience of the dynamics that can develop here on the platform. The dynamics of interactions is insane. Even though I was skeptical at the beginning about the bots and the many "fake accounts", I find that when you connect with the right people, things look very different. Suddenly you have high quality, exciting new input and get to know the people on the keyboard "personal". This is unique and brings me back every day.

I am looking forward to the further development of this project and hope to be able to participate a bit more in the development than in content at some point.

I'm glad you stuck around. I'm sure the fake accounts will be tiny in comparison when we get to millions of accounts.

It's a great news that steemit is at first place.
All you said is very true, @firepower and time freedom may be the next.

The idea of financial freedom is very exciting and honestly, I think that drives a lot of people to come to Steem and to continue to come to Steem.

Although, I wish fewer people would come for that and more would come for the social interaction. Granted, it can be hard to get social interaction with your own post but it is quite easy if you go search for others content.

The problem with many people coming for financial independence is many people fail to realize that it is a long and hard task especially if you don't have a ton of money to get your content noticed on its own. It is a lot of hard work for those who are starting with nothing. Produce good content, interact with others and leave meaningful comments and this takes quite a bit of time because you actually need to read what was posted!

The way I see it, you can't reap rewards without some quality input of your own. People who wish to be financially independent have a long and challenging road ahead of themselves. But once you are prepared to take that path then it will work out somehow. :)

What I love about steemit is that it empowers also the users and not just fill ups their wallet like facebook, tweeter or many other alike. It's the brick of a new society, is the expression of freedom build on the people and giving back to those who make the effort working and growing the network. Let's keep it up as I don't see any limits for this platform and new horizons can appear at any point!

I joined Steemit in June. I have not been working as hard as I should on Steemit but I have other commitments. I must say that STeemit has opened up A LOT of friendships for me. The people are genuine and loyal. I have managed to form a little starting nest egg. I am betting on Steem and the community and think it will go far. I can look back and think I wish I would have started sooner BUT I am looking forward and thinking how far I can go...personally, financially and even better...FRIENDS!

I'm new in Steem it, but the dynamics in the network and the work for the community is something that it's just beautiful. The grow of the steem it's something that will feed a lot of projects that want just the improve of the web. Steem on!

  1. Meeting new people and build on those i met. (social interaction).
  2. Learning and touching lives.
  3. Making money.

Its like popcorn tastes like paper

Limitless support, open people, tons of content to go through (there is just EVERYTHING!), contests and what not! It's super versatile <3

We are here to see, read, make friends, build a community and grow.
Together we manage, learning by doing and at the end we make some steem.
Its so good to be part of it.

As a social blogging platform with blockchain based rewards Steem is the absolute number one, with everyone else far far behind.

However, it can still be a bit hard to understand for new onboarders. Aside from all the social engagement some elements of being crypto-based can take some time to adjust to. The active Steem community is still largely early adopters. Time however is on our side. Steem on!

Everything you said! And what everyone is saying in these the comments too. It's exciting to be part of it and seeing it grow

for me this community is more than just a social network. There is a lot of useful content and great people here.
minus the fact that my blog is not read much.
But I prefer to read smart writers like you, because you can learn a lot.
so I want to be useful to people.
Thank you for what you are doing ...

All three are also on my list.. number 2 I started with but now number 1 and 3 are also a big part of my steemit adventure..

Thanks for always having good content friend @firepower

Steemit is the evolution

I come here to get better in Enligsh ( not my native language ) and to talk and engage with people.

I admit, I'm addicted to steemit :D

The sense of community for sure is what keeps me coming back to steemit. Yes the money is nice :P however the people I chat with and new ones I meet each day is simply amazing. Full of ideas and creativity

Can't be more happy I joined. Gonna bring you guys some action sports! My dream will be to just travel and make videos. Hopefully that will come true with Steemit!

@firepower mine is interaction while commenting, always looking forward to read great post like yours to learn from, posting great things to inspire steemians

thanks for advices!

I came here out of curiosity. I'm totally new to crypto and don't understand that bit of it at all yet. But I'm really enjoying the people I've spoken to here. It's a really friendly place and it's much easier to join in conversations here than it is on other social platforms. I'm excited to see where it all goes from here.
