RE: How Newbies Avoid Frustration on Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago

You have gotten some things mixed up...
Delegation is indeed lending out your steem power.
Voting power is something different. This has to do with how many votes you can do per day
If you vote a lot at a certain point you will run out. It recharges 20% per day

Sort:

Oh, those are two different things! I've been thinking of them as overlapping, but just a different idea of the same stat. So to be clear, I keep running out of voting power, so that my upvote gives less than a penny, but my powering up SP won't help with that?

And my delegating out SP also won't make my voting power even less?

What exactly is the SP doing if not increasing voting power? Why does someone want SP delegated to them if not to increase their voting power?

so... here it goes...

i have 1000 SP and my vote is 20 cents... that means at 100% voting power.

If my voting power would be 50% I would only be able to vote for 10 cents, 25% is then 5 cents and so forth.
This mechanism of voting power is there to avoid spamming. If it was not there I could vote for 20 cents on all my comments and post and be rich in a few days but then the whole system would collapse

So every 2.4 hours you have recharged 2% voting power that means 12 votes at 100% per day.

So that means if you are at 100% you are losing potential votes.

The other is also true that if you have more SP your vote will be worth more but the voting power thing then still holds true for a full or half power vote

and once you hit 500 SP you get the slider and that makes it a bit more complicated but thats a story for later, lol

This explains so much! Gosh, thank you. Do you have a post on this? If you do I'll definitely share it within a little newbie guide I'm making for some friends I'm trying to get onto Steemit tomorrow. It's hard to share just a comment. I think a lot of people would appreciate this clear explanation.

Now that you explain it like this, it makes total sense with what I read in the Welcome materials, but that was clear as mud the way they wrote it.

hehe, sometimes it has to click

I will write you up a post tomorrow explaining voting power and steem power...
I ll try to keep it simple and clear... helping out the new steemians, I have not written a post like that in a while, might be refreshing

Awesome! Will share with my group. Thanks so much.
