Stop Self-voting Your Comments

I am fucking sick and tired of this shit!

Do you think you are so fucking funny and clever that your comments deserves x-amound of cents every time? If you think so, then why won’t you let others deside that?

Most of my flags go to people that upvote theirs own comments on my comment section, or who promote their own posts in the comments. I usually check if it is a reacurring thing, and it almost always is, and then they have definitely earned my flag.

I know some people will disagree with me on this matter, but then again, you also have your upvotes and flags to be used, so use them accordingly, go upvote the people that upvote their own comments, and flag me.

The flags are there to be used if you disagree with the rewards, use them for fucks sake! And while you’re at it, grow a pair!

Some are going to argue that the selfvoters are poor and that little upvote they give themselves will feed their family for a week. I’d argue that they could make a lot more money if they used that time to write their own posts, write genuine comments to others and make real connections.

If you want to vote your own comments, beg for votes and follows, and promote your own stuff, stay the fuck away from my blog! I will flag and this is your only warning.

My comment section, and the upvotes in there are reserved for genuine people, making funny and good conversation!

I’d like to know what percentage of the rewards pool goes to selfvoted comments every day. If anyone has that info, let us know.

PS. I haven’t even gotten out of bed and I’m already pissed, thanks idiots.

When I receive payout for up-voting my own comment

I totally disagree with this. If you upvote your own comment, you're using SP that you have earned with your own sweat, tears, and money.

There are limits, of course. But should we really be wasting flags on someone who gets under a few bucks for their self upvote on a decent comment? I don't think so: not if it's an intelligent comment worth the amount of the upvote. If someone doesn't recognize your worth I think that you have the right to.

Self upvoting should only be demonized when the amount gained is not equal to the post. Almost everyone does it for their own posts... Why not their comments? Weren't you just complaining about the lack of activity on the platform? That's because most of us, some who have been here over two years, still make a pittance despite on our posts despite best efforts. If people feel okay rewarding themselves, I think activity would slump less in these crypto dives.

Also... People don't usually upvote comments. That's the culture here in Steemit. When they do, it's often not for much. When I make a comment that I've put a lot of thought into, I usually give it some time to gather the attention it deserves. It usually doesn't get it. If it didn't, I give it what I think it deserves myself.

Most of the people complaining about self-upvotes are the 50 SBD a post and above people in Steemit. Most of the people they complain about make less than a single SBD per self upvoted comment. It's a little like someone who's popular and has food left at their door every day saying "how dare that other person grow their own food. If they were really worthy, they'd get popular and get others to leave it at their door". But did it ever occur to these people that building yourself up in this way is actually far more difficult?

What people should have a problem with is shit posters who upvote themselves or give their comment more than it deserves.

Just the other day someone was trying to say your posts were getting more than they were worth and I was quick to slam that down. But main posts are the real thing effecting the rewards pool, not comments. That's part of the reason the rewardpoolrape tag needs to sure. There are pool resists, to be sure, but I've seen the tag misused more often than properly used. Even if I were to give every comment I made a hundred percent upvote you would still grow many times faster than me in this platform. That is simply a fact. I do not begrudge you this. The reason this is so isn't because I haven't spent the time... I've been in here a long while, longer than you. It's not an effort thing... I recently spent months on a post that made a little over 3 SBD. That was the point when I realized that if I didn't start recognizing my own worth on the platform, no one would.

I'm not asking for pity or anything like this. And I'm not trying to be adversarial. I'm asking that you rethink some aspects of your perspective.

It's time we question this ridiculous idea that people should make main posts for profit but comment only out of the good of their hearts.

You see this comment? It's had every bit as much effort put into it as your post. But I get the feeling that the upvote response to it is going to prove my point.

P.S. @dan himself has condoned upvoting of ones own comments. I'll have to do some digging to find the post or comment. There's a reason we're allowed to on the platform.

I totally get your point but why are we trying to build this community if everyone just keeps upvoting themselves in here. I see this platform as a place where you can reward people, content and posts that you enjoy reading.

I’m willing to look past a selfvote if the comments itself is good and worthy of it, but 99% of the time it’s something very generic or outright spam. I hate that those are the comments that then hang in the top of my comment section.

I don’t want to go into the topic of who should make money here and how and with what effort, because it’s a whole other thing. But I would like to translate a Finnish proverb here: ”Even if you believe in yourself, you can still be a total shit”

I started from zero, just like everyone else in here, so I do not take kindly when people imply that I got my ”popularity” handed to me. I did not buy myself to this point, I worked for it.

I know a lot of people disagree with me, but I am only expressing my own opinion about the matter, and everyone else is allowed to do so, and act accordingly.

Ps. There is a reason we are allowed to flag too. It’s a disagreement about potential rewards, not a disagreement about an opinion.

That's a good question. There are many potential answers, but instead I'll ask another: why does still upvoting bother you with comments not but with other posts?

As for "even if you believe in yourself, you can still be a total shit.", I'm not sure what you're implying here. If it's that my (and others) value of our work is potentially "total shit" if it's not acknowledged by the upvote of others... I'm not even sure how to respond to something like that. Couldn't the same be true of someone successful?

Also, I did not imply that you got anything handed to you. Disagreement about potential rewards is fine... My issue is that you seem to have a problem with someone rewarding themselves at all.

I'll give a second answer to your question: because the way Steemit is currently organized there isn't enough attention to go around. Posts get little, comments get almost none. If you're not willing to correct this in your own comments section with your upvotes (and who could blame you), then why do you begrudge people who will rewards their effort and insight? Let's make the conversation about quality comments versus crap ones. Do you really rewards every comment (or post, for that matter) where you find quality? No. It simply isn't possible.

You make good content. It's a shame we seem to have a hard disagreement over what the worth of someone who contributes to the culture of that content is.

Excellent comment, seriously. Following you now, and looking forward to more of your game and movie review posts in my feed. :)

Well said @jenkinrocket. Have an upvote!

I really thought of what I could say to contest your statement, and I will say contest instead of detest because I agree with some aspects. Really, @jenkinrocket put it into words beautifully, so instead of writing up a complete analysis, I will simply upvote, piggyback, and agree with his sentiment.

That being said, I think you are one of the most creative, artistic, and intelligent individuals on Steemit, and are a true testament to what can be achieved with hard work and dedication. @eveuncovered

I will exit with this quote:

;)

Much love,
@futuremind

Ouch. You made Eve mad and she haven’t even woke up yet.... Big mistake there.

I'd listen to @escapist, she knows me too well!

She is the second worst bitch i know when cranky!

If anyone is confused, Escapist is the first.

Anyone up for test drive?

Thanks for sharing

Ha, I know you are just begging for a spanking! I won't fall for that ;)

Shit my masterplan is exposed

Can rawdawg have a spanking? :)

Have you been a good dawg?

I can be trained. :)

AIn't nobody got time for that!

I completely agree with you, I usually flag people who spam someone else's blog with generic comments and then self vote it.

Thanks for sharing this important information, now go and follow and upvote me because I'm fucking awesome!

Off-topic: this must be the best Easter-themed shot I've ever seen 😂

😂😂😂 Didn't even think of that, happy fucking Easter!

Lol, happy Easter! Although we have it next Sunday. You know, we are Orthodox :)

I don't care, either way :D I just eat the chocolate eggsies that clearly have nothing to do with religion :D

I truly understand where you are coming from. Since I upvote my own comments periodically (6 times in last month), I wanted to make sure I wasn't abusing it. Less than 3 percent of the time I upvote my comments in the last month, per steemreports.com. Plus the rewards were less than .35 steem total rewards for those 6 upvotes, if I recall. I guess I am telling you this because I did upvote myself on a comment to you. Almost 100 percent of the time, when I do this, it is usually to get it to show above the spammers. But since you are opposed to this, I will refrain from it in the future. I am glad you mentioned this.

I see you, and I raise you with an upvote!

I totally agree with you. Thankfully Steem allows us the freedom to do whatever the hell we please, it all balances out in the end.

EDIT : I am honestly cracking up at all of your comments on this one. You are a funny as chicka, you just got my follow for your comedic efforts alone.

Thaha, people think I’m funny but I’ll let you in on a secret, I’m being very serious 😈

I never self-upvote because that's where I draw the line. Nor do I promote my own stuff anywhere but my own blog or beg for anything on Steem. I do not appreciate self-upvoting comments. That said, penny-ante operators self-upvoting their comments is a comparably small problem on this platform. Bidbots and vote selling are much bigger problems.

Anyone who wants to improve the quality of their comment section might be wise to also consider upvoting comments by their regular commentators or other high quality comments. It is possible to curate comments, too, and not just by flagging them. Many whales, too, do that to good effect.

Yes, I agree that this is a relatively small problem, but I can't do much to the bigger ones, so I try to use my power on my own comment section. I do upvote a lot of comments that come to me, I try to show my appreciation towards the people who take the time to leave genuine comments, and often entertain me and make me laugh.

I never voted for my comments. But also nobody is voting for my comments also :)

You are absolutely right. The most of them dont even read your post or upvote it, but upvote their own comments. Seriously I find it annoying and a kind of spam.

I hate it hate it hate it hate it! All that just clogs the comments section and takes away from the real comments.

I am reporting them to Steemcleaners to get the job done :)

Lovely way to start the month, I must say. Happy new month @eveuncovered. Take it easy, breathe in the lovely air and enjoy the holiday.

What wearies me the most about the whole comment selfvote thing are those who come with a trail; a trail to upvote a oneliner that contributes absolutely nothing to the post. It is like they count their comments as a post worthy of being upvoted.

I find it hard to do. I recently started upvoting my posts and that took me a while despite advice from folks around. Upvoting on comments is just not for me.

Poor tennis ball. That will hurt, a lot. 😂

Yeah, I have noticed that too, makes it harder to flag those because they have more power together.

I think pretty much everyone upvotes their own post, but that kinda makes sense, you put some time and effort to a post, but comments are usually pretty quickly done.

That is an egg, poor eggsie.

Yes, it's quite irritating. It's an egg? Instinctively checks to see if his are still intact.. Relief... They are. Poor eggsie.

This early in the morning? Pity a good breakfast egg, but I don't think I'm so hungry knowing you're ticked..

It's noon, so not that early I think. Eggs are cheap and disposable, just like spammy comments.

i like it when you are angry i'll be honest. have a great easter! :)

Hahahaha, well then you are in for a treat ;) Happy Easter!

sweet! can't wait. hahaha, have a good one! :)

you are awesome. :)

Good post

I’’ve just wet myself...😂

I dont see a problem if minnow upvote themselfes. Sometimes they dont get support or attention and dont want to be completly frustrated... Some of them have it harder to make connections like you said, because of language barriers or because their condent isnt that sexy like yours. So what shalls... Just my 2 cents

With self votes and spam comments, they will never be more than a minnow, never!

I didnt speak about spam comments - with this I share your opinion, but some selfvotes are ok imho

I love when you are angry 😍 But of course you are right 👍

What is it with you guys liking me when I'm angry?! :D

This makes feel un rejected since I have a voice speak out something related to what i posted earlier this week. In my post I advised the community to delegate steem power to the minnow booster and earn equally what they would earning after upvoting their posts...it is really shameful to upvote your own self...

The minnow booster supports the newbies here on steemit, this means if you delegate to it you will hit two birds with just one stone. It is that simple.

I dont mind self voting myself once in a while, especially for a post that has given me headache for days to put together😅...Its usually me giving myself a tap on my back😋
Otherwise I concur on the flagging, I hope you feel much better after the rant

Hugs from Nairobi,Kenya. 12.41pm

You know what I love the most? Your replies to all the comments that you get and I don't mean just the spam ones. You give a really interesting response to most of them.

Thank you for noticing that, a big portion of my day goes to commenting :)

Nice post

excellent post .thanks for sharing

I just know that actually more than half of the reward pool used to be controlled by voting bots, but I don't think that the comments are the big problem here, they are just small fish trying to make a useless profit of their SP :)

Deep breaths.... its only the internet. It can't hurt you 😉

But but but it hurts me inside! Why are people so dumb!?

Dragon mode Eve is the best Eve.
I do not understand self-voting comments either. I have tried using bots on one of my art projects- something I put a good 100(?) hours into. It was uneasy choice and I only made it after a lot of consideration. The result? I paid more than I received. So I can only imagine that if somebody would want to earn anything with voting on comments they would have to write insane amount of the same shity comments. that seems like an extremely boring way to spend time...

I've never bought votes but many have said that their experience was very similar to yours, aka not worth it.

hahahaha OMG You're great. It was needed someone like you to show up and say that. Congrats! straight and clear people is what we need here. I also disagree the self-voting people.

I’m not one to stay silent if something bothers me, and I get a lot of hate for that, but more looove in comparison :)

That´s good to know, very good to know. Never remain silent when the bad is spoken as truth. Like the sun, shine on everything! But please, do not bring hatred to your heart. Feeling hatred for someone is like taking poison pretending that the other dies poisoned. You are a very young and beautiful woman. Try to stay like that all your life, in addition, you knit very well. I wish I could have one of the socks you knit. Gray ones are my favorites 😍 😍 😍

Hello it is important to express what we like and what bothers us, and I think that as you say very well to review each case in particular, I imagine that there are people who vote for the comments perhaps because they bought delegation to grow and a way to get back what they invested is to vote for their own comments, but I think like you that that does not look good. This wonderful platform gives us the opportunity to grow with our publications and commenting on the posts of the other inhabitants of this ecosystem. And you know the wonder of opening your eyes when you wake up is too beautiful to make it annoying, we must give thanks for every single day for the joy of living. Happiness always

sometimes I like to upvote my own comments when I see that they are below a pile of "please follow me dear" or bot posts and sometimes I like to drop a link when I think its relevant, like this one about an alternative to flagging people that can be hilarious and more satisfying.

I don’t really get that reasoning, because there is a notification about every comment and I read all the comments I get. Idk, maybe some people only read the top ones? Or I guess it might make sense if you go to another persons posts and starts reading the comments in there, and you assume the best ones are at the top and only wnt to read those.

Exactly, if I go read the comments section I will usually stop when I get to the flotsam and spam, I don't want to be buried under there.

That feeling when your upvote doesn't worth shit, so even if I did upvote my own comments, it wouldn't even matter :P

So why do people do it?

It's like masturbating. It feels good while you do it, but deep down you kow you'd prefer if someone else was down there.

Actually... scratch that.

Hahahaha that was probably the best way to describe self votes!

Take that full upvote, you've deserved it for making me laugh out loud 😂

OH! My Balls!

And now my heels are dirty :(

Dont worries. Maybe that a choice when he/she active in steemit. Give a reason how they be good steemian.

Hello , I would really appreciate it if Majority of you would check my blogs and please upvote. Trying to get a hang of steemit, I am new. Thank you

People should understand that actions have consequences. If you think you can do what ever, when ever and where ever, without suffering any consequences for your actions, you are delusional.

Steemit is created with the flag function, it is not up to you to decide if I use it or not.

Both the upvote and flag are meant to be used by everyone, the community as a whole decides what gets rewarded and by how much.
