Many a times we put much efforts into what we do yet we do not see the results they yield. Why do things have to be this way?
It is not uncommon to see a student who studies so hard but is not getting good grades, it is not unusual to see a mother who works so hard in order to make ends meet yet things are not just working out. What is really wrong?, is the world really unfair as many people think?
The thing is, it is not about always working hard but also working smartly. One may work so hard and may never get positive results of the hard work but, the person who works smartly, will always get better and positive results.
As we all know, if you are given an axe to cut down a tree, you do not just go straight ahead and start cutting it down, NO!. For it to be easier and quick, you first have to spend some time Sharpening the axe
The same thing applies to every other work we do. A blogger about to blog or a writer about to write does not just take their pen and start writing, no. They first have to put their ideas together and pen some few tips down before doing the actual writing.
The student who succeeds in academics is the smart one, not the hard working one. Oh yeah, over the past few years I have notice that. The student who pays attention in class, writes down important points, apportion their time well, tries to understand the concepts of theories rather than memorising them does well than the student who sits up the whole day and night studying and cramping theories into their heads.
Another scenario, is where there are two workers. One is "lazy" and the other is hard working. Now, I put the lazy in inverted commas because my definition of lazy is smart. You will realise that in today's world, the people we describe as lazy are the people who always have much time to themselves but, the truth of the matter is, these people are actually doing the same work as we the "hard working" people, just that they have easy and quick ways of doing them. That is why Bill Gates said that "I always give the hardest jobs to lazy people because they will find a quick and easy way of doing them"
So, looking at the above discussion, actually, "lazy" people are not lazy. They are smart.
Nonetheless, we can not work hard without being smart. In order to get done what you have to get done, you have to think and get your strategies ready, you have to plan ahead - this is being smart. Then applying your strategies and plan while working is working hard.
Nothing comes easily in life, you have to strive, you have to motivate yourself, sometimes, you have to go against odds in order to reach the top. Above all, you should be disciplined, you should persevere and always rely on God.
Fall down seven, stand up eight.
I am @eastilan and I take pleasure in using my leisure time to write and blog.
This is a very interesting conversation. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
I was discussing a very similar idea with a friend regarding Skill vs Work and I was amazed at how impossible he had seen the idea of development. Working toward what you want with regard for how you can do that thing better is not easy, but always possible. I find a reflection upon oneself and not rejecting lessons from others/your environment can only create positive growth.
Thank you for your reminder! Your post adds to the fire under my goals as well!
You're welcome and it pleases me that you find some encouragement in my post
